  • nobody knows what they are talking about.. hundreds of thousands of dollars to go toschool to get your doctorate and you all look stupid because you work in and with a giant shit show

  • Dr. Knope is obviously trying to ride Dr. Weil's coattails for his own benefit. There are countless examples of traditional medicine to be exactly wrong when it comes to medical recommendations. To cite just one example, Zoloft and other SSRI anti-depressants have been proven to be no more effective than placebos, yet billions of dollars worth of these drugs are prescribed by MDs each year. Dr. Knope is a shill. Dr. Weil speaks the truth.

  • Two words for all you guys commenting on here....PARANOID SIMPLETONS!!!

  • When there is a rare complication of naturopathic medicine, it gets blown out of proportion. When mainstream medicine has tens of thousands of deaths yearly from medications, it's just accepted as part of the risks. You can't TREAT a symptom. With all the money cancer and Jerry's kids has raked in in the last 20 years, what has been cured? Nothing. MSM does nothing to show what causes problems other than the reported Big Pharma explanation which has become MSM. As for Weil, he has sold out $

  • fuckoffs like him have never had a health problem in their life. Ergo, the solution is to be like them and you'll be fine.

  • As a long time RAW plant foodist, both these people Weil and Knope are shills for BIG Pharma, the corrupt AMA and American Cancer Society etc. Read Eustace Mullins excellent expose of these medical monopolies MURDER BY INJECTION, THE STORY OF THE MEDICAL CONSPIRACY AGAINST AMERICA (which BTW you will NOT find at Mainstream Bookstores, they're banned) also read the Brave Doctor Bob Mendelsohn MD "Confessions of a Medical Heretic" and his many other books. These two are shysters of the first order

  • Many of today's "proven" medical strategies came from anecdotal and "alternative" medicine arenas. Pharmacology is based historically, from plant sourced medicines.

They become "proven" when a big drug company extracts out the active ingredient, modifies it a bit so that it is PATENTABLE, runs big expensive studies that show that it works, and then introduces it into the traditional medicine market for huge profits. Here is the problem with Dr. Knope's arguement and viewpoint about trad. med.

  • Dad once told me, [im in uk] that if u get stung by a stinging nettle to rub dok leaf on the area affected.. heres the funny bit. Im walking home over the big hill by were i lived and i have problems with my knees [2 operations] so sat down to make a joint. i know iknow but listen ...it does heal my pain...co-codamol,tramadol etc dont help.... later.. i trip over a fence face first into some nettles.. i remembered the dok leaf and guess wat.... IT BLOODY WORKED!!! apart from some pins'n'needles

  • This guy is not even on the same plane with Andrew Weil.

  • I think that Dr. Knope perpetuates the fallacy of the false alternative. When he says "proven vs. unproven" , it's coded communication for prescription drugs vs. herbal therapies and botanical supplements. Kind of a strawman though, because the integrative medicine Weil supports includes both and Weil supports only treatments that have proven benefits and/or little potential for harm.

  • It is a war. He is on the side that won't read information on natural remedies

  • I think you guys are all missing the point here. I think he's saying "let's get some proof & decide whether naturopathic medicine belongs in the same realm as allopathic medicine". But in truth, American companies won't pay the FDA to pass patents on shit that people have been using for years. There's no way to exploit & make any realm money off that.

  • The biggest myth that Dr. Knope promotes is his statement about proven vs. unproven. FDA approved does not mean proven by any stretch of the imagination. Additionally, doctors prescribe medicine for "off label use" all the time. He conveniently avoids that topic.

Lastly, the cost of drug testing and approval are too high to expect anything but proprietary drugs. Thus vitamins and supplements will never be funded in the U.S. This is partly why we use German studies.

  • Most doctors like this one are misleading the public by making them think that their so called proven methods of medicine actually cure anything. I'm trying to help my wife realize that aspirin cures nothing, just kills pain etc, and that it is our immune system that does the fighting. She's still not there, because she has learned from traditional doctors to pop a pill and if you feel better you must be better.

  • Dr Knopic you are a nay sayer and an ass

  • I agree with Dr. Knope—he stands for facts, studies and reason. Someone needs to run these alternative goof-balls through the ringer. They want to send us back to the dark ages. Dr. Knope, read about the philosophy of Objectivism. I think you are already there.

  • @FreestarMedia I agree with your first sentence, But I don't think u r giving Weil a fair shake.

  • the doc is fullashit ,he's saying that because of the need to sell the synthetic crap drug companies dish out to the masses for profit.

  • Umm, St. John's Wort has been proven to be effective in studies in Germany for mild to moderate depression. Glucosamine and Chondrotin have been shown to effective as well. So has tumeric. It's not "unproven." I agree with you in another video that fruits & veggies are the best source for micronutrients.

  • This guy pretends conventional medicine is proven. Most of it isn't. There is 'precious little data' to support conventional approaches. This guy is a quack.

  • Kind of funny that this Dr. 'Nope's recreational interests are listed as credentials at the intro of this interview. If I were him, I'd be worried, too! He doesn't realize the medicine he practices is unaffordable and will bankrupt this nation. Poor guy.

  • marijuana will replace most of their pain medication... and you can grow it for free. time to sell off a couple of your bmw's pharma tycoons

  • Helps when your pay cheque comes from the big pharma hey you fucking shill !

  • this man is funded by the pharmaceutical companies. he is paid to say this bullshit.

  • Knope, get the message: YOU WILL ALWAYS BE BEATEN BY WEIL. HE HAS CHARISMA, YOU DO NOT, SORRY!

  • that's total nonsense, acupuncture has been proven for thousands of years! why cause western medicine has no clue it has no merit in medicine? funny!

  • @cubachang not reallyy

  • booo this guy is establishment biased

  • A doctor was not able to help me with a plantar wart through traditional treatments and applications. But I was able to help myself with the potent oil of the shell of cashew nut. I keep healthy with exercise, massage including rolfing, and natural supplements and ointments.

  • If I have an upset stomach then I take peppermint and or ginger. I get better. If I have a cold then I take astragalus, eccinacea

some essential oils etc. I get better. I feel nausea then I sniffer peppermint. If I get depression I seek my homeopathist. The list goes on. Many alt med and therapy works because they work. Alt med works better because it takes the whole person into account. I have had 100's of people tell me on my massage table that their drugs did not cure them but made them wors

  • Once he said "regiment" instead of "regimen" he lost all credibility with me. A "regiment" is a military unit consisting of a number of battalions. A "regimen" is a course of action or systemic plan. The words have similar etymology, but they are clearly very different words. If you're a doctor you should own a dictionary. Words are as important as research. Dr. Knope should do some of his own.

  • Stephen Knope is a beacon of sanity in the insanity that surrounds alternative medicine. He's right, Weil (and other alternative med people) are charlatans preying on an ignorant public.

  • Preying is a poor choice of words as this is a person promoting wellness. But, I do agree that the evidence is not as bountiful in alternative medicine. Does this mean it does not work or that we need to "establish" ways of studying this work. Because for some reason (which needs studying) alternative systems are working for people. That is indisputable.

  • What, really, is wellness other than some buzzword? Andrew Weil, for example, sells a bunch of the stuff that he tells people to take on his website, most of which has already been debunked by science.

Now, are there some alternative treatments that might do something? Sure, but as soon as they are proven to be useful real doctors start using them and they are no longer alternative. CAM, as it peddled by the Weil/Chopra idiotosphere, is total bunk.

  • Wellness is defined. Wellness is the condition of optimal physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, social, and vocational well being. Wellness is beyond "health" (which is the USA's medial goal) and should not be considered the absence of disease.

And as you said, "sure" some alternative treatments "might do something". They actually work for some people especially in combination with allopathic treatments.

I cannot substantiate evidence for Dr. Weil/Chopra but the efficacy is there.

  • No, the efficacy isn't there. If the evidence for the treatment isn't there, how can you make any comments about its efficacy?

I gave you an inch, you took a mile. The CAM treatments that might be worth a damn need to be studied. Enter the NCCAM arm of the NIH, which has spent about a billion dollars the past ten years and hasn't shown that CAM treatments really do much of anything beyond a placebo effect.

Some things are so ridiculous they don't need to be studied; most of CAM is.

  • I do not appreciate how boldly you dismiss complimentary and alternative medicine. I am being educated in a western mentality. I am a personal trainer with a Bachelors of Science in Health and am training to be a massage therapist. I intend to enroll in Physical Therapy ASAP. I have seen some science and understand the value and credibility of the Scientific Method. Thank god we have it and competent doctors who are vigorously trained in hard science.

  • Judging from your credentials, I'd have to say you don't know the difference between what is a well or poorly designed study. CAM is supported by nothing close to evidence ("hard science" as you put it). When you enroll in PT school you will (hopefully) learn to be able to tell the difference.

FYI, massage really isn't part of CAM as it has some degree of efficacy for MSK pain.

  • I believe in Western Medicine but to debunk therapies which have research journals supporting their claims (massage, herbal practices, acupuncture, chiropractic, chinese medicine, ayurvedic practices, etc...) is plain ignorance. CAM needs to be studied if nothing else but to support western medicine. I would also assert that our system does not EFFECTIVELY address "healthy living". Most of these other practices and symptoms have preventative care and healthy living as a primary objective.

  • The studies supporting ayurveda, chiropracty, TCM, herbal bs and accupuncture are generally just crap, either suffering from insufficient power or selection bias or any other number of problems. That people study it means nothing except just that, they are studying it. If they actually prove something has efficacy beyond placebo (which nearly all of it doesn't) then we integrate it into real medicine.

  • Tell me about the standards that you are using to test these CAM methods. I am a skeptic but when more and more evidence is shown that vitamins and supplements are successful in treating diseases, well you must address reality and not economic fantasy...

  • @cowy1 Best comment by far

  • yes and all the meds the Doctor gives me is also total bunk, sir. cause none of them cure anything! SO PLEASE get real..

  • Unfortunate and I would say ignorant by definition.

  • I was feeling somewhat weak during my junior year in high school, but once I started taking the antioxidant supplements Dr.Weil recommended(Vitamin C, Vitamin E,Beta-Carotene,Lycopene)I felt like a new man!Ihad ton's of energy,NEVER got a bruise, and hardly ever even got sick.

  • Unproven Dr Knope? Just take a gander of all the dangerous drugs pushed by the Medical Cartel that you are still soldiering for. Thankfully you and your ilk are a dying breed.

  • what is wrong whit you DrStevenKnope? Did you born like this or you getting payed to be what you are?

  • Dr. Knope is a dying breed of a old school hard core mentality dating back to the 40's. TIMES ARE A CHANGING. If Dr.Weil is such a quack why was he testifying before the Senate today on the future of health care.

  • The scientific method supports Dr. Knope--not Dr. Weil. Tried, tested, true, and regulated= allopathic medicine. Quackery, no science, no testing, and NO RESPONSIBILITY for the patient = integrative medicine. The University of Arizona Medical Center is USING Dr. Weil's reputation to promote their agenda; I'll bet the FOUGHT TOOTH and NAIL to NOT allow Dr. Weil on staff at University Medical Center--and they shouldn't have let him on staff.

  • I got off of ten years of ssri's and prescription amphetamines for my supposed ADHD, OCD, Major Depression, and Social Anxiety disorder, by listening to Dr. Weil's advice about diet and am perfectly fine now! NO THANKS to "Proven Medicine" Omega 3 fatty acids, amalgum filling removal and chelation saved my life! Speaking of alternative medicine...Do you know of a fellow by the name of Jim Humble? You should...He has documented 70,000 cases of cured Malaria with his own Miracle Mineral Supplement

  • Proven and Unproven.. HUH. FDA only approves what they have been lobbied to approve and mostly things from big pharma. With that said, I don't buy a damn thing that's been approved by the FDA, I'll take my chances.

  • Dr. Weil is right, you are wrong. His therapies have all worked for me, including one you just mentioned, St. John's Wort.

    You're a complete tool.

  • P.S...Nobody cares about your karate belts. Good luck using that in a real fight.

  • Now thats some funny shit !!!

  • @defbear Do you argue that a person doesn't get wet when they jump in a pool, too? While I don't like Dr. Dope because he is an idiot and treats symptoms, I can guarantee that he could kick your ass. Kenpo is a respectable style of martial arts. Two, what do you think karate is used for, knitting? Now, to shut up the MMA response, let me tell you FROM experience, the most deadly ppl in the world would never mess around with MMA.They are beyond that. MMA is a joke compared to true martial artist.

  • Commonly used conventional medicine. I wonder how many times you have prescribed Prozac because you know...the evidence was so dead on that it worked for patients...O wait that's right...it was proven earlier this year to be ineffective for the majority of people who use it. Should I start listing all the BIG name drugs that have been pulled from the market? Dr. Weil may be a quack. But you're a smug, dishonest, obviously jealous little mama's boy. I'm embarrassed watching you.

  • lol nice comment
