I'm afraid the whole desperate melodic overtones just don't cut the mustard, listen to Territorial Pissings again. Melodic, yet aggressively apathetic and jaded, that's what you need. Try again LSD,. Maybe if you cover the early 90's band with the same acronym song "Tank" you might also learn something about composing.
