  • WOW...................................

  • what did they use from the nebula at the end??

  • @nameless12345 apparently some dude working on the movie who is also a scientist, did some chemical reactions in a petri dish. they filmed it changed the contrast and colour and stuck it in the movie.

  • Damn this stupid comment mechanism...I was trying to reply to who said nothing was distinctive about the effects. They did not use any CGI, except for color tinting, animating the space bubble, and blue-screen compositing of the images (like you see here). It is "groundbreaking" because everything you see on the film was shot with a camera, using microphotography. This video doesn't really show much of it, but what makes the film unique is the microphotography & the black / gold color scheme.

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WAHT REACTION WAS TAKING PLACE FOR THAT LAST VISUAL EFFECT " THE GIANT GLOWING TUNNEL HEAVEN THINGY"

  • WHAT THE FUUUUUCK!!!!!!????????

    LOL, nice:D

  • amazing movie very well done and the music is even better

  • name of the soundtrack pf this video??? anyone???

  • @kain69francisco ummm, the fountain

  • what was the point in this movie?

  • @tanru2000 that is why Clint Mansell is the best at what he does

  • I love the film and they did a wonderful job on the effects with their small budget but I wouldn't call the effects groundbreaking. These aren't really considered new techniques for a film made in 2006.

  • @TekLok I don't know who used the word "groundbreaking", but perhaps they used the wrong "superlative" in their attempt to convey their feelings of awe at the sheer beauty of this film?

Whether the techniques are new or old is irrelevant! What matters is how they were used... and how indeed!

  • @NaxNax96 Yeah like the right tools for the right job.

  • Thanks for uploading this video.

  • love this movie

  • This is no doubt the most gorgeous film I've ever seen.

  • @FlowerChildanddan Yes, its amazing. If you like this stuff, I recomment "the fall". My current "most beautiful film" :)

  • @danielcjtodd

That is also my favorite film visually. That and 'The Man Who Wasn't There' for Deakins' use of B&W

  • One of the most brilliant movies made.

  • best Movie i ever seen..

  • its talking about the live 4 ever and all the team of this film r MASON !!

  • .....Whatever dude.

  • what music is this?

  • Clint Mansell - Stay With Me

    from The Fountain Soundtrack

  • i saw it but i didnt get it lol can someone explain it?

  • its very complicated film;

    a) watch it again

    b) search in internet and forums about movies

  • k thanks

  • Compared to Pi its Dr. Seuss. haha

  • The joke's on you-Dr Seuss spent a great deal of time and effort in his books and for however childish they seem, they were actually based in fairly deep issues-The Butter Battle was about the cold war and Yertle the Turtle was parallel to dictatorship. Pi was a good novel, but this is still magnificent art.

  • It's an allegory. Essentially, a person feels like he lives an interminable existence after his wife dies. He obsesses over the fact that he couldn't prevent it and spends the rest of his life wishing he'd done things differently, constantly living in the past.

At the end of the movie, he comes to term with what has happened, his interminable existence ends.

With that said, you won't become immortal upon the death of a loved one. It'll only feel that way.

  • That's very good explanation.

  • Yeah. It's the greatest movie ever.

    Explanation ^^

  • For me it is not so much about different times, future, past, present, but more about different dimensions of reality.and how to deal with dead and the search for everlasting life.

The outer reality, scientific and rational

The book, the land of fantasy and dreams

    The meditative state

And at the end he "dies" in his meditation and becomes a part of the whole again.

But that is only my perspective...what ever you see in the movie will be true for you!

  • look for similarities in photography, speech etc.

You'll notice how the tree and her, and him (through all times) are the same persons... and he strives for the same, just with different names. Then perhaps you can make your own opinion of it. For me it's about loss (of a loved one).

  • Thanks for the tip captain Obvious.

  • thanks for shinfo.

  • This movie was absolutely amazing. My favorite!! it tells the story in 3 different ways; past, present, and future all at the same time. which is why its kinda hard to keep up with. but wow the visual effects are really awesome... these people are too smart.

  • Awesome movie and the effects are spectacular. Thats the way the life is!

  • What is the main idea of the movie? I was confused by a lot of it. And how is life that way?

  • that music is outstanding,Sounds like the intro to monsters ball, maby the same guys? +10 for this video

  • have any of you seen this on weed man ...

  • on weed..

    ha

  • i love this movie

  • I have seen it but I don't get it really XD

  • Personally, i think its about getting over the fear of death and embracing it

  • This movie is a masterpiece. It's just magnificent.

  • The ending looks like it's filmed with a slow-mo camera and that they dropped something in the water and that splash effect + other effects of course

It's one of my favorite movies of all time! :)

  • beautiful movie with great effects, perfect piece of art!

  • Clint Mansell is a legend. This movie is a masterpiece. PERIOD.

  • I concur!

  • The soundtrack to this movie it's so amazing.

  • @Tanru2000 This song is my favourite its called Together We Will Live Forever. it makes me think about all the things ive seen and done in my life, its amazing.

  • whats the music in this clip

  • look at my videos i made 300 - video with this song - stay with me by clint mansell!

  • there are also higher res versions on our channel.

    intelligentcreatures

  • The colour correction for some of those blue screen shots would have been really hard! How on earth do they get it so right?!

  • as hell do these special effects to my dramatic films? I have a mac

  • i love the visuals there amazing and very spiritual.

  • nice video and nice effects too:)

  • thats cool

  • It should be noted that Clint Mansell produces the best scores for film - period.

    Requiem for a Dream

    The Fountain

Yes, both DA films, but he is quite the composer and only adds vlaue to DA's films.

  • Haven't listened too much to Mansell's works, but Philip Glass is my favorite composer. He's made many really good ones for film.

  • wow this was beautiful...im i miss reading the comments or was that an actual movie???if so

can some one please tell me the name of it?????????

    thankyou

  • The fountian

  • those aren't any groundbreaking effects, but rather very artistic visions beautifully executed with techniques that have been around for 20 years, such as greenscreening and wet for dry and vise versa, dry for wat like they did in the Lord of the Rings films during all the underwater scenes, but still very beautiful and artistic

  • Pooooooooo!

I haven't seen the movie, but the video is great!

Thanks seinfeldfan17 for uploading and thanks nameofthepen for sharing!

  • what's the name of the song?

    Very very good movie

I 've seen this movie 3 times and I don't understand yet , but somehow in my mind It is perfect. great movie.

  • I was thrown back when I saw people leaving at the showing of the movie, Guess all they can comprehend is hulk and the like. but this was a smooth movie. Death is a disease just like any other.

  • beautiful video!!!

  • Why is the actor blue in the raw footage ?

  • I think i could be because it helps to seperate the actor from the green screen that much more. It makes it easier to key out the green screen with no green reflective lighting bouncing onto the actor. Its easierh to color correct it back to normal than it is to make a tighter matte around the talent. Just my two cents, I could be completely wrong =P

  • water, pool.

  • I think you are right. using gelled lighting to illuminate a subject in a complex compositing shot is a standard method for helping isolate the subject from the background.

  • They are filming it under water with blue screen background - all that blue light is bouncing off him. Its incredible how well they color corrected it though. The keying would have been difficult for that shot since so much blue light is spilling onto the actor.

  • thank you for posting this!

  • amazing movie !!!!

  • Simply and brainy thing with this yoga-diving guy. Now I know why his levitation looks so particularly good.

Nice kind of job. Fancy to do that kind of things.

  • let me pick my jaw up from the desk....

    that was amazing

  • The fountain.. can't really discribe this movie, one has really to see it.

not only best movie of 2007 but also on the tops for my all time favourite movies.

Give this producer more chances and open up the doors of cinema to more creative ppl please, hollywood got old fast, always the same kind of stuff.

  • I'm learning how to do this on my mac computer :)

  • It's good to know how the effects were created. Nice view! =)

  • This is a cool movie, I love the music is Clint Mansell and the actors Hugh and Rachel.

Darren A. And Clint M. Always make a magic world.

    The effects are so pro.

    Nice to I.C.

  • i've got to see this movie

  • Darren Aronofsky is a true Visionary.

  • It's the best movie of this year! Es la mejor pelicula, lejos, de este 2007.

  • try watching it on acid....

  • that would rock man!!!

  • I think I've never felt so moved watching a movie like when I saw The Fountain. It's overwhelming. Honestly it's hard for me to understand how Darren Aronofsky put all this together. Everything in this film is great: from the plot to the acting and the music. Simply brilliant. Makes me want to make a movie too (which always happens to me when I see something extraordinary... a movie, a book, etc)

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • well said, and I agree with you. such an inspiration.

  • I want to know what they shot to make Shebulba

  • xibalba

  • chemical and biological reactions through a microscope.

  • great movie... and beautiful music , does any body knows whos playing?

  • The music is composed by Clint Mansell. He makes most of his music in association with the Kronos Quartet.

  • the song is called "stay with me" and i can listen to music like that all day. most times id rather listen to music like this instead of and other. it evokes greater emotion.

  • yea do u have the soundtrack?

  • Fricken amazing.:D

  • I knew it! they filmed it under water.

    AMAZING FILM!

  • Oh thanks for uploading this bits, a masterpiece really!

  • A piece of art. Future will give the deserved acknowledge... Thanks for posting!

  • "Stay With Me" from the soundtrack of "The Fountain" by Clint Mansell...

  • could someone tell me what's the name of this song?

  • This is an amazing movie, unfortunately very underrated. I cannot believe it didn't get any Oscar nominees...

  • I would give 3 oscars to this movie. Plot, Sound effects and acting

  • I agree, especially acting... but I would also add Music Score... ;)

  • Ditto. I saw tis movie 6 months ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about it, especially the ending. Time is the great equalizer.

  • I feel the same!!! I think about it like everyday LOL

  • agree... jackman should get an oscar...

but u know... the really good actors dont need any credit... they have it from the fans...

of course when someone deserves something, should have the merit..
