  • Is there a lot of bbq contest in Great Britain and are they like the ones here in the US.

  • We are in the process of getting more competitions in the UK. The main problem over here is culture. I went to the American Royal in October which just illustrated to me how much we are playing at BBQ'ing.

Those guys were cooking with some fantastic equipment.

  • To be honest I don't use the amigo for smoking, I was asked to do a vid for the Amigo by MACS BBQ, I either use the Excel, Frontier or the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker.

The open bottom of the Amigo makes it hard to control the temps, but it is a good entry level unit.

  • Yes on the Amigo I topped it up with hot water about 4 hours in.

  • Did you need to replenish the water and fuel during the six hours?

  • Hi Buddy,

I am a big BBQ & general cooking fan, regulalry BBQing throughout the year on my Weber Kettle.

Is it really necessary to use all of the temperature probes? I have used them for checking when I am entertaining on a grand scale but for home cooking, prefer going for using visual checks including the age-old skewer and juices running clear method.

Whats wrong with getting your hands dirty, getting burnt and not using a hairdryer to get the coals going in your chimney starter?

  • Hi Mate,

Likewise I love BBQ'ing and putting on a spread, I find that when I am cooking for friends or doing something for a party I like to use the probes more so for the peice of mind.

However, I have used my present setup now for sometime and I know how it will be performing.

The main reason I will opt for the probes is if I have change the fuel configuration, used a different waterpan method or it is an unuallay large cut of meat.

  • To be honest I try to avoid getting burnt, but getting dirty isn't a problem when cooking for myself as always people are ever minded of hygeine so using gloves is a good way to reassure your guests.

I also prefer the Looflighter as a clean way of lighting the coals despite the claim for odourless firelighters you do still get a petroleum based taint.
