  • hahaha xD Maybe they'll listen this year? xP

  • It's not the Subaru that did a good job it was the driver that was accually somewhat prepared.

  • weeeeeeeeee

  • did the blue pickup hit that red car

  • looks like that subaru did the best of anyone... hmmm

  • After the taxi didn't hit the pole hes all disappointed LOL.

  • I'm surprised that nobody hit the pole.

  • ICCCCCYYYYYYY

  • Well as you can see in the video EVERYONE had their brakes locked up. I live in Texas and almost never have to drive in this kind of weather (unless I am traveling) but I do know that you NEVER lock your breaks up when you start to lose traction. If you start to lose traction all you have to do is let off the gas and turn into the skid and you will straighten up then tap the breaks to slow down so you wont lose traction again.

  • they all do the same error...pressing brakes......calm down ....use your brain....turn + handbrake !

  • That was really kind of you to put up a sign. :)

  • wow i hate that the best car for thoses conditions the subaru legacy is all over dramatitic because he slid like two feet and thought he was gonna die

  • so much for a.b.s.

  • people wake up, you cant steer with your brakes locked duhhh

  • There is a lot of talk about brake pumping and ABS. I seriously think most people have never driven on the completely frictionless surface that is left immediately after freezing rain. If the conditions are just right, no amount of ABS or pumping or 4WD or winter tires will slow you down. The real bad driving in this video comes from people who are travelling WAY too fast. The city should also invest in some salt.

  • Ok rule number one. DO NOT SLAM ON THE BRAKES ON SNOW OR ICE!!!!! Damn.

  • We also have iced roads in Liechtenstein ( Europe )

  • check out that stopping power on the subie!

  • He didnt put up a sign that told cars to go the wrong way and he did not put up a sign that said road closed. Putting up a sign to warn drivers on ice. that is the nicest thing I have heard someone do. I work for the highway department and I wish people would read signs. It is not his fault if the cars crashed unless he caused it. So ignore everyone else and do that durring the next storm.

  • that subaru did well, they always seem to do well on ice and snow

  • grow up people! he put a sign up and thats good enough. its not his job to make SURE that everyone does what he syas. at least he was kind enough to do it. they slid and it was their own fault bcuz they were driving too fast. common sense says "Ice:drive SLOW"

  • i remember this day, i called into work sick cause my works parking lot was a steep ass hill. i saw all sorts of accidents in that parking lot.

  • Forgive me if this sounds a dumb question but dont you have gritting lorries in the US that throw down "grit" (salt) on the roads? Obviiusly some people cant read signs but boy!!

  • Gritting lorries? They're called salt trucks, but I'm going to refer to them as gritting lorries from now on, thanks.

  • yeah but not in seattle it snow about twice a year. in other states wher it snow a lot they take proper care of the roads all winter and put "grit" on them..

  • Yes, we have grit (usually sand) vehicles. In my neighborhood, just outside Seattle, I've seen the aftermath of what I can only guess was a sanding truck that refused to go down a steep hill: drivers would go over the crest of the hill and go instantly from gritty traction to solid ice. This hill had lots of parked cars, and people would hit them, and/or slam on the brake and go spinning.

  • We do in Canada, and I'm sure any American city that sees any sort of snowfall do as well, but they can't go out salting every residential road the second it ices up, first they have to do highways, then main roads, then surface streets, and then residential

  • wtf at 24 you caan see a mustang, who drives a mustang in those conditions

  • Someone with one car. . .

  • that was the funniest shit ever haha

  • nice drift

  • I can't believe it, that only the last 2 cars had an ABS system.

  • Um, I'm actually fairly sure that every car OTHER than the last two and that pickup had ABS (But I'm not sure about the CR-V, ours hasnt got ABS, but it is a true base model)

  • This is why America turning into land of cover your ass and lawsuits. Instead of fixing the problem when you know it exists - people point the finger or say "it aint my job" or "but I put up a sign".

If you say you didn't put no sign - then okay, maybe it aint your job. But to blame the drivers cuz then didn't heed your warning - well that invites all the criticism you got. Did you call the city maint. dept. and tell them? Don't just stand around - do something!

  • He did something. He took a video and put it on YouTube. And I am thankful for this entertainment!

  • i say if the dumb ass people in the cars took the risk to go out and drive they got what was coming to them. put some salt down one cried: or sand another said you are as dumb as these people in the cars. i say go fu** yourself and put your own sand down

  • Wow. I'm not sure where you live, but where I live, they salt roads regularly to prevent this from happening. If the city let a major road get this icy, someone would lose their job. It is an essential city service. No one "puts their own sand" on public roads. Do you paint your own lane lines on public roads? Do you install your own traffic lights on public roads? You make no sense.

  • Good of you to leave a sign.

    Probably no one noticed it.

    Letters big enough to read?

Why did you not show it?

Would like to have seen more of the pickup outcome.

  • WWEEEEEEEE

  • you really should have posted a sign at the top of the hill or something.

  • you need to disable the red box. it's annoying

  • LMAO

I learned how to drive on black ice the hard way when I was 16 years old. But now, I'm 24 and professional at it.

Actually, I enjoy driving in the winter because it increases your adrenaline but in a slow motion.

  • You got time to film - why don't you go get some salt or sand and put in on the road?

  • Because that is not his job and are you going to pay for all that slat and sand? And who is going to pick up the liability if he only gets it half salted and creates a bigger hazard resulting in an accident, possibly even a roll over. And while we're asking, will you covering his health insurance in case someone runs in to him while he is being a good citizen?

    Give me a break!

  • That blue Yota pickup was fuckin caining lol

  • that is pretty funny , lol cool vid :P

  • "What did the sign look like?

Was it lined paper and a magic marker? "

Really? Are you serious? With the amount of stupidity that is prevalent today, he could have put a gate across the road and I wouldn't be surprised if as many people just opened the gate and drove on through.

  • where in seattle is this?

  • this vid should be shown to all learners;)

  • What did the sign look like?

Was it lined paper and a magic marker?

  • great vid-- 'cept, you should have made it longer, hehe

  • SUBARU ROCKS! Must've had not ABS working - this perfect angle stop only happens without ABS - when you let go the pedal.

  • icy road and americans = great fun to watch

    >

    bus seriously Subaru rocks :)

  • of course they have to try and go down hill anyway.. even though there is a sign on top of hill. live and learn,,,

  • you did not video tape this famous "sign"

  • ha ha ha, anybody stupid enough to drive like that on ice deserves to get laughed at

  • Subaru rocks!

  • i just love this videos you should totally put some funny video song or something bad for the people with out insurance

  • noone hit the pole :(

  • notice most of the people to arrogent to pay attention to the sign drove 4x4's - the subaru guy got lucky with the fact he got the right car WWAAAYY

  • exactly cause all the assholes say to them selves hey look at me i got 4 wheel drive nothing can stop anything on ice ur screwed

  • Turn into the curb and let it stop you. I've done it a million times.

  • Then turn into front end shop for repairs and alignment.

  • That what makes Subaru a Subaru.

  • why the hell do people lock their brakes when sliding

  • cause their stupid.. glad i'm not on road with them..

  • "cause" "glad i'm not on road with them" i don't know if you should be talking about how stupid other people are :P

    jk jk

  • No one read your sign because they all think they have the experience to handle these kinds of road conditions, until they get into a slippery situation. Some people are just born retarded. P.T. Barnum once said, " there's a sucker born every minute." Even people with 4x4's spin out.

  • arthurvelling - Read the comments!

  • stupid people doesn't know how to drive with snow or ice. it's funny. i think that i couldn't drive too, if it wasn't for winter every year lol

  • omg idk ytf ppl think when all wheels r locked up , they turn the wheel hoping to turn away???

U DONT GET TRACTION WITH LOCKED UP WHEELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • Typical Subaru, always ready to handle any show or ice

    GO SUBARU!

  • As usual the Subaru escapes unharmed, lol. The back came around like meh.

  • I live on a similiar street in Seattle and boy it was entertaining to watch all the idiots. I say 'idiots' because there was a "snow closure" sign at the top of the hill.

  • all that slipping and sliding with out incident. lucky people i guess.

  • guy on the end nailed it like it was nothing

  • no comment................

  • then don't put an comment....

  • Comment removed

  • Read the description.

  • There was a sign.

  • lol, worst thing you can do is brake

  • idiots

  • look at the jackass driving the toyota tacoma lol!

  • They think 4WD means they wont slide.

  • didn't I hear that you aren't going to use salt ny more in WA to save the environment? Sounds like the body shops got some friends in government out there.

  • o ya dont help just keep filming stupid ass

  • well what the fuck is he supposed to do walk up and shake their hands for being a dumbass on the road when it's icy. kudos on the vid 5 stars

  • a lil advise to my slippery friends. put aside all instincts and dont hit the brakes when in a slide!

  • what happend with the blue car(0:48)?

  • I drive a camaro and have no problem in the snow. Infact i like it more with snw on the ground. 1 its way more fun and 2 theres less people around.

  • We use 4 studded snow tires here in Colorado. Solves that stopping problem nicely.

  • some of these people were flying!

  • look at all these dickheads locking the brakes... i seen it in all the ice road videos... if they learn not to panic like little girls and just pump the brakes, plus if they weren't going so fast in the first place, then they wouldn't have become yet anither statistic

  • fuk seattle

  • or or or or or or u can buy a tank and stfu. Serious it's driver skill & common sense. Tires and 4wd are dead machinery, just tools. You need to learn to control your vehicle. If someone is spinning out down an icy hill don't follow!

  • Today there was a foot of snow and -15 degrees centigrade in my town, I called off work, deciding that it simply was too dangerous to even go near my car, let alone drive it.

  • learn to drive properly then.

  • LOL!!!!!! come on people, don`t flooooooooor the breaks.. hahahaha... learn to DRIVE!!!!!

    From norway :P

  • You should have had a sign that said, "Little old ladies crossing, children at play, and banana peels and marbles on the road ahead." Maybe they would have gotten the hint!

  • amazing nobody hit anything besides the curb...

  • You could just use salt and metal plow blades. At least you save money on road maintenance.

  • chains or studs are only illeagal thru surtan times of the year basicly (winter) and abs is for when your accelerating not braking just dont lock up the brakes and tap them and youll be fine

  • I think you mean that the other way around Abs stands for anti lock braking system. you know,... keeps tires from locking and slidding, your thinking about tration control which engages the brakes to prevent tire slip in bad weather

  • are u retarded abs is for accelerating???? abs mean anti-lock braking system.

  • In Wisconsin they're illegal 24/7, 365 (and why would they not be allowed IN winter?). And it's ABS, I believe your thinking of traction control systems.

  • I have seen so many videos like this here on youtube and none of you yanks seem to have abs? What is up with that? Of course ABS will help in this scenario, trust me I know for we have nasty conditions here in Switzerland also. ABS is what keeps jetliners from skidding of the runway! If you do ever encounter this scenario and you are sliding and have zero control then pull the handbrake and use it to lock to back wheels and then use your steering gently to s avoid obstacles. Get studded tires!

  • Chains and studded tires are illegal in most areas, with the noted exception of the mountains. And ABS won't help you one bit when the car is sliding sideways even withOUT touching the brakes.

  • The thing is that when you have ABS you wont be sliding sideways in the first place. The only reason these cars are like cows on Ice is because the wheel are locking up.

  • yaaahh...saw the subaru at the end of the film? wooo....ugly but fuc**** cool car ...

  • lol hahaha it had the best control

  • yeah. that's Subaru. I don't drive one, but that would a japanese car I'd buy. Here, in our mountains, it's full of them. lol.

  • These people literally have no clue how to handle snow. xD

  • ABS doesn't overcome stupidity. Nice footage. Hopefully everyone in the Northwest is getting more practice this year.

  • Nice of you to give them fair warning. Genious of you to know that good tape would result from their stupidity and inability to drive.

  • get out and film some more, it's snowing right now!

  • Snow tires make a bigger difference than 4WD/AWD

  • do i see the tail lights of a ford mustang at 0:21 ? :P

  • This is why I don't go out on days like today. I am a reasonably cautious and skilled driver in the snow, but I fear for my life with people like those on the road with me.

  • These stupid WOMEN drivers don't know how to drive at ALL! They should not be on the roads. Nobody knows how to pump the brake pedal either!

  • Hate to tell you, bub, but most of those idiots were men. Don't blame the women. Most of the accidents I've been in were caused by men.

  • For Vehicles equiped with ABS (anti-lock brake system) which most cars are now...pumping brakes isnt necessary, that system electronically reads when your car needs to have it done... blah blah etc. And you should really check your facts b4 posting such outspoken proclaimations. The average car insurance for men is higher the women because studies prove women drive safer...contrary to popular belief that women are horrible drivers.

  • I know how ABS works, I work on the systems. Allot of people would not know to pump the brake on older vehicles or some newer vehicles without ABS. I did not mean to say all that, I had a bad day and got cut off by a couple women. haha We get people all the time coming in saying they have this light on that says 'ABS', many of them don't even know their vehicle has it let alone what it does.

  • ABS doesn't do much, its slightly better than not having it...and men are more wreckless and offensive drivers...women are more feeble minded and stupid when they drive.

  • LÖL, its doesnt help pump your brakes on clear ice, friction is, and keeps in zero. :)

Only way that could work, if you have chains or studded tires...

  • Obviously...

  • if that pole could think it would be thinking oO(FEW! those were some close ones!)

  • will someone please hit the damn pole

  • QFT :P

  • hahahahahaha, Americans suck at driving, good pornos though

  • I was never more scared for my life on the roads then when I visited a foreign country. Anyone who's been in and out of American knows what I'm talking about.

  • most of you foreigners seem to not understand that North America has a far south and a far north. people that live far north where it snows alot are excellent drivers in snow, people more south that are not use to driving in snow doesn't fair so well. another thing i've seen plunty of videos on youtube where people from other countries drive way worse then Americans ever could and on good dry surfaces...

  • It snows once or twice a year in Seattle, most people have no idea how to drive on ice. I grew up further inland where we would have snow on the ground from October to April, and everyone knew how to get around. I now live in Seattle, and am amazed how poor their winter driving skills are, but also realize they don't have much practice.

  • hmmm maybe you can get some crashes on film this week!?!

  • he is not lucky he is a taxi driver and knows how to cause the road is his job at ANY time ;)

  • poor rav4

  • ABS brakes FTW

  • the guy at :48 was going way 2 fast.

  • 4WD is almost a bad thing here, since when u lock wheels is easier to lock all 4 at once, losing control.Rob

  • Uh, well if you use brakes on any car it's going to lock all 4 at the same time. AWD and 4WD have nothing to do with which wheels the brakes effect.

Pulling the e-brake (parking brake) would lock the rears only though.

  • Yes but with a 4WD basic one such as an older 4X4 then all for wheels are connected so if one locks they all do,if that makes sense, whereas in 2wd if one locks the worst is that one other does, and its a rear wheel on a FWD car then maybe only that wheel locks.Rob

  • some drivers are stupid and they think they can beat the ice. Nobody can beat ice. You should have attempted to break up the ice lol

  • i beat it..

  • im sure you did

  • ohhh, shit man !

  • the last car made it quickly to the stop, without having to slide on its side. and it stopped quickly enough. this is what you get for having a subaru. its tough on any condition... bmw would do well also.

  • i think the subaru stopped more quickly because the driver turned but subarus are beast

  • yea i was going to say it like that. anyways.... being a good driver + having subaru/bmw = stopping good in weather like this. having a beat up chevy/gm/ or the worst... dodge... + tailgaiter/harddriver will only get you so far on the road. but having chevy/gm/dodge, will have a high incident rate regardless of good driver or not. anyways. yes i was going to say it like that. good man, knows his cars.

  • hahahaha and the subie took it almost perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!! STi all day anyday son

  • great drifting skills!

  • that old subaru at the end did pretty good. even without abs.

  • las one aws quickk

  • woah holy shit.. that truck at :47 was goin kinda fast on ice.. thats real smart, i hope he crashed

  • i dont get it why people step on the brakes, you have more control if you dont step on the brakes.

  • good thing that curb is there...

  • holy crap this video is so funny!

  • ahaahahahah

  • I am glad i live in a state that gets alot of snow!!!!!!!!!!!! still scary as hell though!

  • do a little research and get back to me.

  • I'm kinda Glad where I live in Ny doesn't get like this...though 2007's winter was pretty Icy.

  • and snowy very very snowy

  • We do that just for fun..

Its always funny to watch Americans drive at wintertime.. :D Your tiers is not for that kind of winter that you see on the video..

  • Stupid americans cant drive on a little ice.

  • In America there is not much opportunity to drive on ice, thankfully. It would be like watching you stay on a surfboard. It's relative. Grow up.

  • look at the woman driver in the beggining!she should countersteer!!!that's why women must not drive

  • To the guy who said abs doesn't do shit on ice, it sure does, try slamming on the brakes without abs on the highway, you'll probably spin around a few times, abs won't make you stop shorter but it will keep you in a straight line (for the most part)

  • ABS is a life saver period, and i know it first hand. Some idiot ran accros road in front of traffic, and the dump truck in front of me had chains. He hit his brakes and stopped no problem, but Me and the 18 wheeler behind me couldnt, and like every human I Slammed the brakes. Had I not had abs, I would have helplessly slid into the truck and been severly injured being rear ended by a fully loaded 18-wheeler who hit the dump truck doing 45km/h!

  • haha i know that neighborhood... that hill is bad when (or if) we ever get snow...

  • ok the guy on :45 needs to be a driving instructor for winter parallel parking holy crap.... and the guy in :49 needs to have his license yanked plain and simple i would be scared driving anywhere near him.

  • That Beetle in the foreground is probably the best car on this for driving in the snow. Weight over driving (trans)axle.

  • Maybe in snow, but on ice like that you need studed tires or like the last car a AWD Subaru.

  • this is funny as hell what if someone doing like 50 came haulin ass through there

  • it would be funny as hell, that's what :P

  • you should of made a sign abit further down also saying 'TOLD YOU SO'

  • Hahaha good call!!

Lol @ 0:15 - "Ahh he is so lucky"

  • Subaru Legacy AWD wagons are great little cars.

  • lol this reminds me of when an ice storm hit near my school in North Carolina. People kept coming down a hill and they couldn't stop their cars so they slowly slid down hitting eachother. This one guy just threw up his hands as he slowly slid into another car it was hilarious.

  • Don't you have winter tyres?

  • The Subaru was the only car who made it down the hill without losing traction. He or she had a little experience of driving on ice! 1. Don't hit the brakes!

    2. drive slowly!

    3. Keep your god damn eyes on the road!:D

  • I love watching americans try to drive in the snow, take your foot of the brake!
