  • fighting against... Dick Wei

  • jet li was going through puberty

  • is sounds fake with the swishs in it

  • "The mark of a True Dancer"

  • Cool...

  • THIS IS AWESOME! what is this from? i wanna see the whole thing!!!!!!

  • @AwkwardExpression Dragons of the Orient, you should be able to find it fairly easily.

  • 0:12 bboy jet Li

  • the sound affect isnt cool...good performance though

  • @YingXingDeChiBang Yeah, they are pretty realistic though, his sword is made of wushu steel which is super flexible just to make that noise.

  • @Otherman101

I learned Kunfu for over 6 years, and i learned some sword skills as well, and let me tell you, THERE IS NO WAY that the sword will make noise as loud as this. Is true that they will have swish noise when u swing them, but not this loud.

  • where is this clip from?

  • @Teemeah this is a movie, "Dragon Fighter"

  • @TheBapesGirl Mine did, but I took the batteries out. :-|

  • they shouldve added slo mo swish sound effects for the slo mo part.

  • people who know very little about broadsword it makes noise its not very stiff and rigid when swung correctly u will hear it cut the air and hear its bending so its not all sound effects added in.

  • @Lyunatis but it wouldn't make a swish sound on a forward jab. and it does in the video, therefore: sound effects

  • @TheBapesGirl LOL -- why do they even bother with the fake sound effects on the swords anyway.

  • The sound wasn't added in! Jet Li MADE those sound effects, forrealsss. :P

  • @atomaboy Which is presumably why they are exactly the same pitch and amplitude even when the footage is in slow motion...? Look at around 40-50 seconds in. He is not making those sounds.

  • @Pulsewave0 Oh good job! do ya want a cookie?

  • wow!

  • the sound is KILLING ME

  • lol

  • I had to turn of the sound, lol^^

  • lololol

  • awh man they even added the swish sound effects!

  • @Cheeseitnow nope thats the flimsy crappy swords lol

  • @deadlywithguitar more like demonstration swords. They're thin and bending and makes weird noises for the crowd XD

  • @Cheeseitnow those actually aren't sound effects! sorry if this was a joke, but broadswords, when used properly by a master, actually do make that sound when the tips bend and snap back into place

  • @realityismyreligion Sir. you are wrong. im guessing you dont do kung fu either. ive been training with broadsword forms for a few years now, and any kind of broadsword does NOT make that sound, the sounds you hear are fake -_- u hear them in movies too

  • his opponent is not only someone! its DICK WEI. also a good fighter! he was in army and drill soldiers for unarmed fight.

  • there looks like theres some drunken fist mixed in a little bit

  • middle girl

  • Jet li > Bruce lee

  • ศิษย์เส้าหลิน

  • ive read some where he accedently cut himself on the cheek (not sure wich side) during one of his exhibitions early in his career with the broad sword if you look closely at his face in some of his movies you can see the scar

  • Yep. turns out those swords do make a loud snapping sound when handled like so.

  • only when theyre being stabbed... when theyre slashed they have to be stopped abruptly so send the energy moving to the tip where the sound are being made.

  • he'd make a good break dancer lol

  • He's so fast

  • LOL the sounds fx ruined it.

  • lols yeah they were pretty unecissary but

    he still kicked ass

  • that does look goofy but thats because its probably drunken style. it looks very wild and uncoordinated but its practiced and intentional movements. =]

  • If you've ever swung a wushu steel sword, that's exactly how it sounds. Looks like you need to stop watching martial arts videos and start practicing one ;)

  • The video footage is from 'Dragon Fight' i think, sincve Dick Wei is there at the end. The voiceover is from something else.

  • he's hot.

  • Turn off the sound.

Makes the video 10 times better.

  • Also, to address this video, Jet Li moves beautifully! So quick and almost...passionate? Its really impressive. So wild in appearance at times, but then they slow it down and you can see practiced intention. I just hate the corny sound effects. He's using a foil for the first demo scenes, so it won't make the proper cutting sounds, so they inserted them, but ughhh. BTW, anyone have any links to good chinese polearm demos? Can't find too many really nice ones...

  • Hey Pimp-500000

Try one complete thought and post it, unless you like looking like a total retard.

  • He doesn't even need sound effects to show how awesome he is.

  • he could easly be dancer, tracer or basketball player, look how fucking fast and high he jumps

  • even tho those sound effects sound ugly, that sword actually sounds like that but only when u make a powerful blow.

itz cuz it looks like dat sword iz made of aluminum foil or sumthin

  • Moon would easily destroy him.

  • lol effects

  • 好老啊

  • Hey, it's break dancing.

  • the sound effects are AWFUL!! but it was cool

  • ...amazing...he would own anyone is seconds flat...wow...was that bagua or taiji?

  • My Gosh this guy will kick my ass in seconds! XDDD He is a pretty good fighter, but Im actually curious to see Bruce Lee VS Jet Li VS Jackie Chan VS Tony Jaa, to me; that'll be the fight of the century >:)

  • bruce would win.

  • We will never know that, even if they say Bruce was the best, I have to see for myself before before I can Judge.

  • i like jet li he is my fav actor and martial artist as of right now but i would agree with you bruce lee could beat anyone

  • wuts this from.. oO ?

  • freekin sound effects!! lmao.. but jet li kicks ass (not in this vid though) :)

  • you also rat very hard.

  • sound effects sounds funny

  • lmao, of course it looks lame, but in Wushu and most Kung fu, those spring steel blades are far far lighter, and they use those swords mostly for form competetion sake. personally i agree, i don't like the springsteel floppiness and ridiculously lightweight, but oh well.

  • this is from a film why did they make it into a doc?

  • lol pew pew lazorz

  • he should stop wushu and break dance 0:12-0:17

  • Comment removed

  • Super speed and agility. Impressive. Irritating sound effect, though.

  • lol can they reshoot this without them stinkin sound effects? it's irritating!

  • as amazing as he is at this form, this is corny as hell lol

  • this good

  • why dont u try take a hit of that "weapon"? :D

  • crappy sound effects. straight out of one of his older movies lol.

  • no those are sound effects. the real sounds are more... clangy

  • is this actually a weapon or an exercise tool?

  • Omg those sound effects are annoying as hell

  • those sound effects were just added on

  • 200000th viewer,

    ehehe

  • that sowrd seems kinda flimsy

  • yep! its a typical wushu broadsword. personally I wouldnt fight with it in a war. Cause then I would be worried about getting laughed at rather than getting killed! lol.

  • lol! although COld Steels versoin looks like it could do some damage

  • yep, i agree.

  • well maybe u belive wikepedia is lying?? i dont

  • shaolin kung fu is best

  • acually no style is better than the other it all depends on the skills the guy has

  • jet li was champion at the age of 11 and keept it for 4 years until he had a knee indjury.. he is a national tresuer of china

  • what the hell are you saying man??? why don't you look at some REAL information about him!!!!!!

  • Please don't say that :S I've just had a very bad knee injury and im trying to stay positive, this can't hold back my wushu.

  • the sound of the sort is very funny!

  • whats a sort?

  • I mean "sword".

  • mightve been more interesting without the sound effects

  • just one statement thats not a broadsword a broadsword is much wider that is a chinese machete

  • lol no its not..its a wushu sabre or broadsword. theres different types of broadswords

  • its called a daoshu

  • Ok I got a question: there's this movie with a very young Jet Li starring in it, he wears a black suit with approx. 6 big buttons on it. In the beginning of the movie he battles a communist soldier with his belt, after that you get to see some amazing acrobatic shit from him :p in the rest of the movie there is thi Russian fighter, who looks like Jean-Claude Van Damme who acts like a friend of Jet Li in the movie. My question: what is the title? The fake dvd package says "Fist Of Legend 2" XD

  • Jet Li was the world wushu champion when he was younger, there was no one that came close to him at one point. Richard Nixon even offered for him to be his personal body guard, this was before he became an actor of course. But even as a kid he was the world wushu (mixed martial arts) champion.

  • the F-in broadsword is my favorite sword evr!

  • that was some jump!.. no wonder hes a wushu champion..

  • LilVi3tJr, it's true that kung fu/wushu has chainged a lot, but I'm quite sure that Jet li could do all the moves what ppl do now.

in that time there wasn't even xuenfengjao 720, or maybe there was but only a few guys were able to do it...

  • 成龙,李连杰,李小龙都我中国人,我们的骄傲。

  • Cool video, thanks for the upload.

  • the sound effect is irritating -.-

  • you're username is irritating.

  • umm are you sure its sound effects because if i swing a sword hard enough it will make a similar sound

jet li probably swings it a million times harder than me so the sound is magnified a million times

  • watch enough olden HK's wuxia drama and you'll realise they've been using the same sound effects...

  • yes it does sound the same

however thats movies, this is a real life competition

as i've said before, swing a sword. it makes the same sword, just smaller frequency

  • makes the same sound**

  • Jet Lis kung fu isnt as great as now ,, now we have more advanced kung fuu'errs but Jet li is still the shit back then and now

  • 0_0 woooww

  • Is this scene from a movie?

  • No. It was at the time when Jet Li was still in Beijing Wushu Team. He won the National Championship, and that was why they invited him to TV.

  • Fencing of this sort might look cool, but all those fancy moves are just a bit overkill.

  • lol it's like kapuera

  • urrm im hoping im wrong and you didn't mean capoeira, if you ment somthing else my mistake, but if you did the spelling is a bit off :-s

  • i love jet lee he is my idol! he will be always great!

  • if hes ur idol why u spell his name wrong...its jet li...

  • lmao! seriously eh?

  • even before I saw the two above comments, I read tokatevez comment and thought the same thing. LOL!

  • li lee.. all the same in china

  • absolute brilliant . li hasn´t much more to do with a human

  • wonder whats with this fake sword sound

  • Classic Chinese kung-fu/martial arts movie sound effects. If two weapons clash (of any material) you will hear a fierce ringing...

Also, how old was he when this was made? No older than 18, he looks like a kid!

  • If training Dao used with even not-so-much skill, it makes sounds as well, but more like a metal sheet wobbling sound when it's point wobbles. Great vid when muted :P

Btw, u can cut with the tip side of the training Dao, since it's thinner at the tip, so don't do any joke-fighting with it.

  • i hate the sound effects but i love his fighting style

  • those sound effects piss me off

  • then turn your sound off?

  • did, but still... who would ever think that those weird sounds were cool?

and why do all the old hong kong gungfu movies have them?

  • it's a chinese broadsword, also known as a Chinese Dao-Blade, it's used in most martial arts movies and demos, you can probably find videos on here, somewhere, the blade he's using is made out of impact steel, or 'spring steel' given because of it's tendancy to return to it's original shape, no matter how much abuse it recieves, what a nice invention! I like the whooshy noises :3

  • I have respect for the Asian martial arts but I prefer the European martial arts. As my favorite sword is the Longsword which is highly underrated as it is as heavy as a katana and is longer and has 2 cut sides but it depends on the sword user after all.

  • lordbone: really? I'm yet to meet someone who knows that Europe had martial arts. What do you study?

  • Europes martial arts are from the middle ages as fighting then was very important. Just search this site for AMEK, or longsword. It isn't that well known but the martial arts of Europe are coming back. And I do not yet study it but I'm planning to.

  • Interesting. It's not Fiore Di Libre (what I study), cause we never cross the hands and see holding the sword sideways like that as weak. What's the origin?

  • The Medieval Longsword masters, you might want to look around this site for longsword then you might find some techniques.

  • I feel the same way, love the Asian styles, but I'm very happy to see a revival of the European fighting styles, as I am of that descent. and wtf is Fiore di Libre? I couldn't find it anywhere... oh well

  • I also don't know :D, also I'm also of that descent so I'm also happy to see it come back ;).

  • Fiore Di Libre was a 15th century Italian swordsmen, he's left behind manuals for his studied style of fencing (especially the long sword)& these texts are used to teach his traditional style in our day. personally i study george silver's style but i must say this video is very impressive..Eastern martial forms always look so graceful when performed by a master..

  • awesome, thanks man :)

  • the europeans cant compete with the oriental knights can suck my balls

  • the samurai of japan could slaughter the knights of europe....and yes i kow jet li is chinese

  • even though I am Japanese, I dont fully agree with you on that one. Knights of Europe depending on what country are also well trained with swords and can block many swift attacks. It also depends on the sword being used.

  • You have no basis for your claims. There are no recorded battles or even small skirmishes between fully armed/trained knights, and equivalent samurai. Besides, it would depend on WHICH part of Europe the knights derived from and which era it took place during. You're clearly just showing biases. Both cultures' warriors were very formidable. And since you mentioned movies, I think you may be stricken by the misconceptions Hollywood spreads about knights. They knew hand-to-hand and weren't slow :O

  • Thats just goofy.

  • dont get me rong i luv jet iv got all his films and jackie chans but i would like to have a match with a martial artist to see if its as good as they say im a boxer been doin it for 11 years never lost a fight iv had 35 in the ring i live in york if anybodys interested mail me thanx ..................

  • YIKES!!!

  • Jet lee is my hero, I'm trying to master the broad sword and double just as he did.

  • the slash sounds are old fashion.

    deal with it.

    the old school way is a lot better -.-;;

    can u do all that?

    didnt think so.

  • it's a good video...but broadsword's noise is so bad... rsrs

  • im suprized he doesnt cut him self..

  • he's not using a real sword he is using a competitional sword. a real sword is much more heavyer.

  • is tht real ?, cause all those sword sounds dont actualli happen , but great vid

  • yea i think those swords sounds are kinda fake but if you wave a stick around fast enough outside it could make about the same noice xD try yourself

  • The only thing that I don't like is the fact slash noises. But, it's an old video, it can't be helped but still. It showcases his skills quite nicely.

  • my god it is do fast ..uhh!!cool

  • Wow, he looks so friggin' young!

  • It is definate from an actual movie (dragon of the orient?? i forgot) and is from the 80s.

  • What an old clip! I think it was taken in 1970s, before Jet Li went to the film industry.

BTW,it is not a broadsword, but a Chinese falchion.

  • Puuuleeesss cut that retarded sound effect...must more enjoyable without it!

  • un video che insegna a capire quanti anni di allenamento ci vogliono per raggiugere certi livelli...

  • is this from Dragons of the Orient? i have that, but i hate the fake sounds lol.

  • it's not a broadsword... it's a Chinese Dao Blade -.-

  • yeah lol. I was kind of surprised that he would use a broadsword until I saw the video and it wasn't a broadsword.

  • yea what is this from like a kung fu how to

  • i have real fights for him,,must c

  • was that fight scripted, or real?

  • yeah it was a real fight.. they were going to kill each other think before you post

  • Are you some kind of idiot? I know they weren't out to kill each other, I was asking if it was a genuine spar fight or if they were just going through pre-planned motions.

  • I hade this version! i had a good one, with nice music it was awesome. The Man talking and the fake sounds just makes it horrible..

  • hehe the swords are made of cheap aluminium , really really flimsy

  • Actually their made from spring steel which allows the metal to be highly flexible yet retain its original form.

  • No, it's spring steel which is highly flexible when figthing, that's a good thing.

  • Im learning wu shu and the sword does make those noises accept i cant make the noises that much but my master can and he can also do alot of other amazing things but jet li is awsome he is a true matrial artist

  • lol noobs. those arent sound effects. broad swords make those sounds when being used durrrrrr
