@GGGG761 It unfortunately wasn't real...just three walls on a hill. Winter River CT., the town they lived in, wasn't real either...however, I still think it was filmed in CT. The red bridge they break through was a set add on as well.
@volkswag12 Thank you ! No I never worked for a studio but I did few short movies for me or friends and few commercials in France. I would love to work in the movie industry and Blast from the 80s will be my first big project if we can find a producer.
Now THAT was "making movie-magic". Everything was handmade - today everything needs to look realistic; but that's the reason why it only looks more and more boring, cause theres the point where u have seen everything on the big screen
Beetlejuice is such an amazing movie for a whole generation, and i can't believe that WB didn't made sure their so-called 20th anniversarry deluxe edition could offer the pleasure to discover all the secrets behind this movie such as productions, effect making and most of ll deleted and alternative scenes (because i know there are some) and as for the tv series i know a lot of people ready to spend a lotta bucks to be able to get it on dvd, so what are they waiting for?
I waited a long time to buy a DVD of Beetlejuice because I was hoping they would release a version which included a lot of behind the scenes stuff. It looks like we have to keep on waiting...
In that photo of Tim Burton looking down the hole, it looks like Juno the case worker poking thru. Cud be another deleted scene?? We'll prob never know based on the so-called "Delux DVD" just released...
Wow, thats really interesting footage!! I would give my right arm to have worked on Beetlejuice! Do you remember working on any other scenes that got cut? Maybe something from the original ending with beetlejuice trying to escape from the sandworm planet?
I don't recall our team working on any other scenes that got cut. Good thing, since stop-motion is so time consuming, you hate to see it end up on the cutting room floor. As far as I know, the original ending had the Sandworm take away Beetlejuice and you never saw him again. But after an early screening, audiences complained about not seeing him again in the end. So the filmmakers went back and shot the end sequence in the waiting room where Beetlejuice gets his head shrunk.
Wow, if you look at the storyboards at the beginning of the clip they are for a deleted scene. Its the part where the Maitlands are hanging out of the attic window to avoid the deetzes intrusion. Originally they were suppose to be being attacked by the sandworm down below but the part got cut.
Now THIS is the stuff that I was hoping would be on the Special Edition.
That Fireplace 'stretch' always made me question how it was done. You're right that there's more than enough material that could have filled a 2nd disc. I mean, I put off buying the film waiting for a great special edition.
Yes, I worked there and just shot some footage with my VHS camera as the project went on. My main tasks were in building the animated fireplace models and assisting in the construction of some of the armature parts for the stop-motion puppets.
I did not know about it. Thanks for letting me know, I'll definitely want to buy a copy when it comes out. I'm sure that if they wanted behind the scenes footage for the DVD then they probably approached the Heads/Owners of the Special Effects companies who worked on it. I look forward to seeing more stuff!
That's too bad. There were several different effects shops that worked on the film. Each of them must have had some pretty cool behind the scenes stuff that would be great on a bonus disc. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see.
That was from a photo provided to us as reference for making the miniature version of the fireplace. I'm not sure who the person in the hole is, and I don't have a clearer image.
I never even thought about this film having stopmotion. Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes. come join a bunch of us animators at stopmotionanimation dot com

Yes, that storyboard shows one of the deleted scenes. Too bad it got deleted because it had some really nice animation in it.

Your Welcome about the news, but WB dosen't look like there giving this release much of anything but 3 episodes from the animated series.

It would of been a nice addition to the disc, but its not September yet so WB could add more to this release.
