Zip City is just north of Florence AL. You have to pass it to go through it to get to TN where beer is cheaper and they have the lottery! To get to the best beer joint and local music in North Alabama and southern TN.
"By the time you drop them I'll be gone, and you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life." I would kill to write songs like Mike Cooley does.
someones guitar was out of tune. There was one guitar that fucked up one of the best live recordings. That okind of shit just gets to me. favorite cooley song though
Where does Cooley fit into the mix? For my money, I look forward to a Cooley song more than either Patterson or Jason (now his solo stuff). Maybe if Johnny Cash were a member of the beatles?
point well taken I love Cooleys stuff as well maybe I should have compared them too Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Cooley could be Neil Young is that better. just like peas and carrots HA HA...
thanks for posting that tune down fella,s these acoustic sets are gettin better and better cooley is really coming out as a lyrycist and his vocals are one of a kind
Yeah, and he also wrote "Panties in your purse." It was pretty clear from the start that the man was an amazing lyricist... what's really changed is that he's writing a lot more now (yay!)
DBT put on one of the best shows i've ever had the pleasure of seeing. they played zip city, but the performance was nothing like this. this is fantastic!!! thanks!!!!!!!!
I measure 24 miles instead of 26 from Colbert Heights to Zip City but it's fun as heck riding my Harley with DBT blasting away. Great Video of a Great Song. THANKS!
tune down a step. Intro & chorus: Em,G, D, A. One measure each. Verse: D, Bm, G, Em, G. Bridge after second verse starting with lyric "your brother.." A, Bm,G,Em,G,D.
Mike Cooley will go down as one of the greatest songwriters of my generation. One day he will be mentioned in the same breath as Dylan, Young, Simon, and Springsteen.

I just saw Jason with the 400 Unit. He's doing fine, really coming into his own. Goddamn, that boy can play that guitar!
I know what you mean though. The DBT was pretty formidable when he was there. I love all of them.

"Coming out as a lyricist"?
Goddamn, man, this is the guy who wrote this song (classic) AND "Carl Perkins Cadillac".
I would say Cooley made his bones a while back.
You've got good taste, though. This song is unbelievable, lyrically.

Just the 6th string gets tuned down, right?
brewmn61 2 years ago
Tune all six strings down one step to get it the way they do it. Half a step sounds ok too, and is easier for me personally to sing along with.
gruibingen 2 years ago
from top to bottom you tune the strings:
D
G
C
F
A
d

It pains me to say it, but history is written by the victors. I would love to believe otherwise, especially as I see a performance like this.
