I wish i could tell the world that BNL is the best thing to happen to music in a very long time and they'd all believe me. But then i'd be afraid that they'd get too popular because of how amazing they are and then i'd just be just another fan of a popular band. But as it stands now I'm proud to know and appreciate the wonderful brilliance of such a Canadian band that is so humble that they don't need over exposure to continually write and produce some of the GREATEST MUSIC EVER
This and a lot of his other videos are posted on NettwerkMusic's channel, with way more views, that are found more easily with the search tool, but I go out of my way to watch them on his channel.
ed.. seriously? enjoy? are you kidding me, we all adore ya ! and ofcourse we enjoy this? it's beautiful songs played by a beautiful man ! lovely :)) love them
This song is so well crafted, funny and poignant with certain lyrics that keep repeating in my subconscious: "I'm all for compassion, just not on my dime...you look like an amateur, and that's the real crime". The song's subject is very unusual, but Ed makes it work so well.
I Love this song ! One of my Fav's off "Are me" this and Maybe Your Right. I just found these videos.....Awesome!! Going to casino rama to see the ladies sept 3rd can't wait will be my 5th time , I saw them play in kew gardens when I was about 12 years old and have been a fan ever since. Good job guys keep up the good work !!!
Please don't ever stop making music, Ed. There aren't words to tell you how much I love bnl's music. You guys sing the songs that my soul would sing, if it could.
I have been listening to you guys since 1992. By far my favorite band... That's dedication! I have yet to have had the opportunity to see you guys live, though...
Oh yeah, Ed... I have the same (RED) Shirt, good to know that you like the Gap. Your wife is a lucky woman - keep serenading her.
You are a part of the greatest band I have ever heard. I'm really hoping that you guys come to Chino Hills and Rancho Cucamonga. YOur songs are so amazing. You make me want to quit playing guitar because I know I'll never be as amazing as you. But your music always maked me want to try harder.
I loved this song the first time I heard it. I found the protagonist's disdain for the subject of the song strangely moving. I dunno, our local station plays this and always chuckles like it's a comedy tune. Sure there's typical BNL wit and clever songwriting, and maybe I'm an idiot, but I've always found this song more poignant than humorous. Kinda like if Elmore Leonard wrote pop tunes...
@blake46long I always kind of thought this song was a metaphor for a relationship where everything is going fine but then one person does something to fuck it all up, and the other person simply washes their hands of them.
Love you guys...and Ed, you're just one in a million, keep on writing such top toons please! :-) Alfie x p.s. just seen your shows in Cambridge and London, and you were awesome, come back soon!
it's not their greatest hits but there's an album called 'barenaked ladies at the revue' which is all the songs off the new CD done live acoustic - highly recommended.
If you subscribe to the podcast (back when Ed actually updated it somewhat regularly), he did a feature called "What Were You Thinking When You Wrote That Song?" where he'd explain it, and then play it. Sometimes Steve would show up. There's only five of them, but they're good, and free.
Heard this for the first time in Austin at The Backyard (one of the best concerts you guys have ever done - and I've been to way too many!) Thank you for sharing! We LOVE you guys!
I love this song. From the first time I heard it, I envisioned being made into a movie (starring you, of course). If it ever happens I want a cameo :) Thanks!
After seeing many a anonymous dude playing guitar into a camera on youtube, this is pretty sweet to come across Ed Robertson. This is also an amazing song.
I'm soooooo happy that you chose to include this song into your Bathroom Sessions because it's my favorite on the album :) You've made me so very very happy :) hehe I'm all gooshy :P
I think I heard Irv Weinstein report on this crime, when a pair of pistol packing punks made an unauthorized withdrawl from a terrified teller in Buffalo's Blackrock Borrough.
not bad at all lad.
