I used to cosplay all the time but I never got into being the character. I knew who I was playing and I could geek out about them all day, but the most annoying people at a con IMHO are those who are seriously in character. The ones who won't just talk to you like a normal person. There's jokingly being you character for a bit and then there are those who basically larp the con. SO annoying...

@XxMeatTBonexX Yeah, this is actually why I never go to these things. I've been a shinobi my whole life. If I were to "dress up" I would want to wear my uniform and carry my sword. I'm sure the local police you waste no time in trying to take it from me tho, and I'd rather give up my own life than my own sword. I know that probably sounds nuts to most people but that sword is just apart of me.

Pretty awesome! Fun to watch AND helpful for beginning cosplayers. Some people tend to fail pretty hard at some of these rules, but at least I've read up a bit before actually doing something for cosplay.

I've been cosplaying for one year here at Portugal but our conventions are soo small that in the biggest of them you have arround 100 cosplayers :(

Right, MY rule #1: choose a costume that fits your body style.  You may have the heart of Conan, The Destroyer, but have the body of Pee Wee Herman, you will just look ridiculous. If you have the virtues of Superman, but the beer-belly of Bubba J (Jeff Dunham character) you will only achive disgust and snickers behind your back. So take the pointe from Indy J: The Last Crusade--CHOOSE WISELY.

One more rule to add (not directed to you, Tara): If you show a lot of skin, you lose the right to complain about people staring at you.

That rule goes for costume AND regular clothes.

Non-related costume rule at Comic-Con: Leave the damn baby strollers AT HOME!!! Hire a babysitter! Baby strollers clog lines waaaayyyy too much!

@taurnguard I agree with the skin statement, but about the baby strollers it's gonna happen anyways. Clearly you're not a parent cause if you were you'd understand that most of the time people bring they're kids to cons either cause A, they couldn't find anyone to babysit they're kids/can't afford a babysitter or B, they just want they're kids to come and share in the awesomeness of the con. And there's nothing wrong with that. They're not gonna carry the kids all day long so get used to it.
