No, it wasn't Blackwater. They were soldiers of the 82nd Airborne division of the Army and they tried with smoke cannisters first. US Marines arrived in Fallujah later and led the two assaults known as the First and Second battle of Fallujah. 3 Blackwater contractors were killed and their bodies burnt and so on and that's what caused the acceleration to the upcoming battles to flush out the large number of insurgents in the city.
