Ok can someone please msg me n tell me this was an earthquake that happen in Jan of 2010 ? on the 9th ? how come i havnet seen this on our canada news they showed the Haiti stuff why not the Ca 1 can some one please confirm this to me that this isnt a joke or spoof thankyou :)
Saw this video and gives me flashback of the Northridge earthquake. I live in L.A. county so I know how shakes you must've been. Just glad the damages were just material wise and they can get replaced over time. As long as you are still alive and able to post this video is already a blessing.
To those talking about the bid one, it's expected to happen here in Southern Cali (L.A. to be exact). I've known about it all my life so d important prt is to just be prepared even if it never hits.
Now, an earthquake has rocked Haiti. Strength 7.0, there are many thousands presumed dead. This is just a small taste of what will happen when the Big One, which is thousands of times stronger! Think about it!
i live 27 miles south of eureka near the coast - you got off lucky, happy for you! my place was so trashed we couldn't walk through the hallways or rooms. i HAD a huge collection of figurines & antique bottles but grabbed the T.V. as it was closest...still picking up little shards but only cut one finger. i lived in L.A.county so up here having the population spread out & few tall buildings was the main reason hardly anyone was hurt.
Hello.Enjoyed your 'home' report on the damage caused by the quake.
Strongest I've felt here in Manchester England was last year in March and I believe it was around 4.5. and lasted about 20 seconds. Nothing to what you guys get in California but it was enough.
. I can not name a date, no strength or duration, and no precise location for the epicenter, I know only that it will happen. Think about which they would be prepared enough, "I wish you much luck, I pray for you that the quake will not be huge!" AND SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH, IM FROM AUSTRIA !
"Is The Big One" a mild expression of what will happen in California! I am not a prophet or something similar. I'm no scholar, but I beg of you still read my comment seriously and reflect! I'm sure is about 99% so that the quake before it. (One can never be 100% sure, as Albert Einstein already) said. I have a good knowledge in seismology. Here comes something huge.
To the people have the opportunity or have the possibility to leave from there, I say: "Go away!" "Get out!" If you value your life. This is only the tremor before the big quake! The quake is so powerful that will go down the whole coast. There is no preparation!
Yeah, well all of us who live in Eureka are well aware of "The Big One," it's hardly news. Truth is, when we get lots of small earthquakes we are less likely to have "The Big One." Natural disasters happen anywhere, I should hardly think that you would leave your home because I say to you (on youtube, of all places) that there will be an earthquake, flood, tornado, hurricane, drought, alien invasion, etc. you simply cannot escape natural disasters, anywhere.
I know that just because a user is not equal to evacuate all of California .. But perhaps you will find a way to prepare you .. Get the inside scoop more food! Always be prepared for the worst! It is fast approaching ..
Kinda cute video. Glad no one was really hurt. I was in San Diego when we had a nice 3.8 temblor twenty five years ago (as they call small ones). I tell ya...the first time you feel one it is an eye opener! Imagine what the really big ones feel like (roads splittin..and opening up). I must say, I never got used to the ground shaking in California. Ta heck wit it!
I am in magalia about 30 miles from Chico in the mnts and I felt it good. It knocked over my monitor and started making stuff fall from the walls. I am shocked most of the people in chico didn't even notice but I felt it hard.
Thanks for the footage. Have been thru a 5.6 in Nevada and 6.0 in So Cal, both at night while sleeping but never in day. What were you doing at the time? Where at?
There is no time to make this fun! This is a harbinger. In seismology, I know myself well, and I know that this is only a harbinger! Since I am not a researcher you give me any attention. But I can only guess Californians: Take care! Ride a few days away! The Big One is getting closer.
there is no preparation .. when a 6.5 quake was only a harbinger, then the actual quake will be huge. Too great. It will certainly surpass the 9.5 quake in Chile .. I really wished I would therefore not be right, or lie .. :(
For such a strong earthquake that aftershocks are too little and too weak, which means that everything points to an even greater event .. the tension builds up on!
First time i encountered the word "harbinger"... i learned this from you. Just in case,... I prepared my flashlight... after all we live in California.... : (
Who's to say that wasn't "The Big One?" All my life in Eureka we have frequently had small earthquakes, which is a good thing. Frequent, smaller earthquakes mean no big killer earthquake, as tectonic pressure is being relieved, slowly but surely.
As the name "The Big One" implies, it will be an extreme earthquake. It happens every 100 years, the last time 1908th The 6.5 quake had nothing to do with the San Andreas Fault, which means that it can not be "the big one was". But it will rise to this Big One earthquake, because it is long overdue. Also south of Sumatra, it will soon be an extreme earthquake (like 2004). I warned the USGS already, I would like to know what they are doing. I hope they do the right thing :f
What exactly do you expect the USGS to do? The "United States Geological Survey" has nothing to do with "Fear mongering and evacuating the third largest state in the country." For that you want Fox news and FEMA. Call them, I'm sure they're both totally clueless to the impending killer earthquake that we all know is coming.
When the quake started I watched the ceiling fixtures sway back forth violently & it managed to open up my closets & eject crap out on the floor.
I was greatful l had afixed the bookcases & china cabinet to the wall. Ditto the water heater. The biggest pain in the Butt, was that the power went off about 15 seconds into the quake & stayed off untill about 2: 00 AM.
I recommend everybody buy a couple LED flashlights with lithium batteries & a C Crane radio. They work like a charm.
wow! I live up north in Grants Pass, OR and we felt a fair amount of shaking. My house made weird creaking sounds and the hanging lights swayed. I'm glad everyone down in Humboldt is OK. I was just in Arcata a few months ago, such a great place!
me and my family had just left eureka a few hours before to go visit our grandparents in weaverville and we felt it really good here too. i was really worried about everyone back home. as far as i know everyone is ok! get to go back home today and see how bad the damage is at home *sigh*
My friends live in Arcata, there from New Jersey and they were excited! This is there first California earthquake, I'm a native and I was scarred shitless!
Hi Hun: Thanks for taking the time to show that before all the cleaning. Quakes leave me in shock for 3 hours but afterward realize the heavier ponderous things go on bottom shelves. Fascinating California is worth it. Keep your good job and stay there. Tampa Bay Area;
Thank You for the informative narrative. Earthquakes, although dangerous and nerve-rattling, are certainly impressive and offer an interesting study for those so inclined.
no loss of life is ALWAYS a good thing, my folks live in Tustin Orange County CA , they would of felt that but not as much as Eureka, at least you guys are ok, you can replace furnature, but not a life, God bless.
Wasn't it terrifying?! I probably wouldn't have moved off my bed, unless my dad and busted in my bedroom and yelled at me to get under a doorjam. Glad you're okay!
We felt a little shaker out in Reno, Nv thinking it was nothing but apparently it was your quake. I went through Loma Prieta and am glad you see you are doing alright. =) Best of wishes to you and yours.
I've been through Loma Prieta here in the Bay Area and we are still waiting for the Hayward fault to go off. I'm glad that in Eureka everbody survived the 6.5 quake.
Te point of this video..Its 2012 and women dont clean anymore. If earthquakes continue the world is finished..

Thank you for posting your video.
Good evidence as to why to have "travel trailer" latches or kiddy latches on your cabinettes.
Also, to have extra garbag bags, work gloves on hand to clean up afterwords.
The Quake Ready class I took in Eureka tells of how most of your inside damage will be in the kitchen and bathrooms.
