These films are relevant today just as they were back then. They should show these films in the schools today. Regardless of whether it was back in 1953 or today in 2011, quiet still helps at school.

Those were the days when the teacher maintained control of the classroom. Did any of the kids in this video ever bring in a gun, a knife, or drugs into school? Did any of the kids ever try to attack Miss Bradley? Were there any metal detectors in the school? If Miss Bradley gave any of the kids a failing grade, as well as discipline them, did any of their parents threaten to go to a lawyer or the ACLU because their kids "rights were violated"?
1953- All this extreme discipline is interesting. Then what happened in the 60's everybody rebelled against all this shit: running away, drugs, going crazy. Kids got sick of it, teenagers, young adults. Finding a happy medium is key. Not this extreme bullshit.
I'll put quiet c;lassroom learning up against chaotic "anything goes" learning any day. Self-discipline is key to success later. It is fostered by careful structure, order, and planning by the teacher. When study time and recess are hard to discern from one another, it's no wonder children have trouble learning. Just because an idea is "new" doesn't mean it is "improved". Even collaboration needs structure.
@dahoboman This is not why our parents are f-ed up. They are f-ed up is because they were so confident in themselves that when they were teenagers in the 60's they led themselves to be stray from the one true G-D and went to worship other things (Read history in 1968 it's called: "The Year Of The Guru.") And also the free love meaning doing sex with whom ever whenever and the drugs. And more this is a Punishment from G-D for having tortured the black people. And I'm white .
The kings english, the way the 'crown' is presented in the psyche of Americans (the world).
We're Americans, we need to be Americans, we need to take back control of our minds, country and our destiny which is all sovereign/freedom and not involuntary servitude.
4:40 Apparently you don't need to ask permission to be excused to sharpen your pencil. You just get up and do it. That's the beginning of anarchy, teacher.

2011: "Yo Lashondraniqua, I'mma borrow dese. I'll get 'em back. Holla at me lata!"
... and that is how first graders have changed.
