  • I've had Labs,a Jack Russel Terrier, A Coyote Shepard Mix and Sheltie's but Porties are my favorite breed. I got my Portie Cody at a shelter when he was 9 months. He was going to be put down in a week if no one adopted him and the minute I saw him I fell in love. So did my other dog a Carin/Schnauzer mix named Lexie. They are love each other so much. Your dogs remind me so much of my babies.

  • @Wolverineeeeeeee

Hi! BLESS you for saving Cody!

I have to agree, Porties are GREAT! But I really am a HUGE dog lover.

  • 0:57 lol.

  • They are so cute!

  • thanks for not using a celine dion song

  • My dog (best friend) died in May of 2010. Do you think its too soon to get a new dog? Im 16 and I cant live without a dog around the house and I will always have a special place in my heart for my dog that past away. Also, whats the difference between this and a Black Lab.

  • me too i am getting a puppy soon and i am really excited because i have never had a pet b4 so this is big for me

  • I'm getting one in a week i am sooooooooo excited especially because i'll be able to swim with it! Our doberman and cocapoo want put their feet in a paddling pool!!!! :D

  • @halo1787

    THANKS!!!

  • @2waterdogs Hey great video! I have dog allergies, and I have read the PWD's are hypoallergenic. Since I prefer the PWD's with the improper coat gene, can you tell me of any differences? Are they less hypoallergenic, do they shed? Thanks!

  • @edawg792

Hi! Sorry this is such a late reply...

Yes, Luckie does shed a little & while we don't have allergies, I'm guessing that the flat (improper) coat might cause more allergy problems. Lucie (brown, wavy coat) doesn't shed at all.

They are the greatest pups & even though they are liter-sisters, they have different & fun personalities.

  • I have a PWD who is currently 5 months old, they look very alike!

  • THANK YOU!

  • nice dogs

  • i have a dog like this and hes beautiful!! not 2 brag. but these dogs are certainly porgegese water dogs and beautiful ones to!!

  • HI!We have owned German Sheps, Westies & PWD's. Luckie-my smooth/imp. coat- does shed some. We don't have allergies, so I can't comment on that. As far as training, PWD's are VERY smart & love to learn new things. I wish I had more time to teach them more things as whatever we have tried they pick up FAST. They are GREAT dogs! They do need brushing & trimming. They quickly become members of your family. I can't pick them up (50-65lbs) but hubby can. But they love to be close & up on my lap.

  • Talk to ANY real PWD breeder (or anyone who knows about the breed)..they all know about Porties with an improper coat. They are 100% PWD's. I have AKS papers for both my girls.

  • OOPPSS...meant to say AKC papers for both

  • Interesting because Luckie's nose and head shape don't look like the classic PWD that Lucke has. Maybe it just looks that way in the video. Do you have any more recent pictures? I have a 7 year old PWD from a well known breeder in Connecticut, and she has been a joy to have in our home (since she turned 2.5)!

Where is your breeder from? There is a website that lists most of the better breeders in the US and Canada.

  • Hi! Luckie & Lucie's Dad was from a breeder in CT; their Mom is from PA. Both are listed AKC breeders, PWDCA & both show their dogs.

I have 32 videos on YouTube; a few from just a few months ago. My girls are 2 &1/2 yrs old & we got them when they were about 8 weeks old. They are a handful but SO sweet, loving & VERY silly! We had our 1st Portie for 15 yrs. GREAT breed!

  • those are not both pwd's.

  • EXCUSE ME??? They most certainly ARE! And I have the AKC registered papers to prove it! Lucie & Luckie are 100% Portuguese Water dogs AND liter sisters. Lucie has a brown wavy coat & Luckie has a black smooth/improper coat.

  • I have an AKC registered pure-bred portuguese water dog with full papers dating back to the days of Deyanne Miller, the woman responsible for many of the PWDs in the US today. My dog has an improper coat, but it's due to two recessive genes coming together - like two brown eyed parents having a blue eyed baby - it's uncommon, but it IS possible. So, please don't make the assumption that they are not water dogs because of the coat.

  • THANK YOU! I've watched some of your videos of Maggie & they are GREAT! Maggie looks just like our Luckie! Little white hairs on the chin & all!

I love the one of her playing with her blanket on the floor & the one of her riding in the car...she is a BEAUTIFUL Portie!!

  • im getting one of those a love the video

  • yes

  • The black dog isn't a portie is it?

  • Hi!

YES - Both of my girls are 100% AKC registered Portuguese Water Dogs. Lucie is a Portie with a brown & white wavy coat & Luckie is a Portie with a smooth (some call improper) coat. They are liter sisters.

  • Interesting! My Izzy had an "improper" coat also, but it was doubly frizzy instead of the regular curly. Oh well, we love 'em anyway, right?

    cheers!

  • Nice video, I've added it to our forum
