Please tell me how get this game installed or running on Vista. When I try to install, I keep getting the error "Error reading DATA/[Folder]/[File]" and when i try to run it, I get the error "The instruction at 00000000 referenced memory at 00000000. The memory could not be read from. Click on OK to terminate the application". Surely if you've managed to run it on a more powerful machine you've found a way?

@tbromyard90 Hey I had the same problem as well but it turns out it plays quite fine once you get past the installation. Look for a portable version on torrents and it'll work.

@tbromyard90 For some reason I can't reply properly. Fucking youtube. Forgetting that what I said does not necessarily require you to break the law (that was an oversimplification), magically obtain Windows 98 SE and either install it overwriting your current operating system, install it to different parition or use VMWare. I doubt anyone would give a damn about 14 year old game, especially considering I own the original. Make your own portable version if you care so much about red tape.

@Cyberxion You're probably right. But I don't think any company would care about it at this stage. It's an old game. I doubt it makes any money. I'm just one random guy in the world downloading a copy which I can use because the one I bought and paid for won't work in Windows 7. Not a legal argument by any stretch of the imagination but I think it's pretty reasonable to assume that nothing bad is going to happen to me for doing it. Is your issue more a moral one though? Developer's rights, etc

@psycapath Not as far as i know, unless you play it on windows 98.. windows 7/vista reads the code differently to 98 which is why quite a few things are messed up ingame

If you have color problems in Win 7 32-bit do this:

Open a notepad file and place this in:

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

start /w gamename.exe

start explorer.exe

Then click File->Save As and be sure that the name given by you is the same with the exe of the game and it is followed by the extension .bat (e.g: bomberman.bat)

Under the File Name, select All Files and click Save.

Place the created file in the same folder with your game and double click it to start the game.

@DeZmanStudios haven't installed it on my win7 pc yet... But: i had a similar color-problem with worms armageddon and fixed it by killing explorer.exe before i run the game (and then starting it via commandline or any other commander). maybe this works here as well, you could give it a try! :)

@Nerusai Well, like I said, I've had the same problem with worms armageddon, so I did some research, finding out the new "aero" engine may be the problem. By killing the explorer process aero will be gone as well, so you can finally start your game. To all others still having problems: Kill your explorer and run the game via commandline/commander of your choice. It should fix this issue. And now have fun fusing some bombs! ;)

However, there's another couple of issues that have me baffled, one, when I play, the death animation of choice for every Bomberman seems to be always the "burned up": one, and two, when collecting power-ups, the same sound is generally heard each time a power-up is picked up, regardless of which Bomberman picked it up. Anyway, how do I fix the two problems? I'm guessing I have to go into the valuelst.res file to do the work, am I right?

@DeZmanStudios i'm running Atomic Bomberman on windows 7 and i was able to fix the colors. just right-click on the executable file or shortcut and go to compatibility and put a check in "Run in 256 Colors", "Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution", "Disable Visual Themes", and "Disable Display Scaling on High DPI Settings". hope this helps out and enjoy your game!

@KnightofTime it worked for mine but here's the thing. sometimes it won't work the first time, so just close it out and retry with the same settings. if it works, that's great but if not, i'm not sure how else to help.

fraps really only likes to work in windows 98 and below! espesaly win95! It for alot of people with Win XP it likes to freeze on the main screen and won't let you move the curser when you try to run it in some Windows Xp, vista, win 7, and up computers! It cant even run on vista and windows 7 without the MS-DOS addon! you can make schem files or maps by using the "Secret" editing tool givin in game play! look it up in the in-game help files on how to use it! =D

Fraps worked just fine for me. The only problem it had with recording AB is that it wouldn't display the FPS counter. Otherwise, it records the game just fine.

Yes, I do, actually. I opened the sound file with one of the programs that comes with the games. It's called GUMP.RSS. It says "I've never seen anything like this before, especially on my shrimp boat. I've never seen a draw before, I guess we'll just have to play one ourself." Or something to that extent.

Well, it's a reference to the movie Forrest Gump. The voice clip sounds like forrest, and in the movie, he buys a shrimp boat and starts his own business. It's a cool movie. Also the creators could have very well been drunk when making this. Have you seen the bonus pictures in the sound folder? There's like pictures of one of the guys from Interplay being a wierdo. He also has a helicopter, apparently.
