ahh i remember that cash register sound we had a caldor by me in bedford hills ny it too was an old store but they redid everything and gave it a new logo before it went out
Another great piece of Americana. Thanks, YouTube. Caldor was a good store for basic needs. And that you brought the camera inside the store is priceless!
haha its funny because things really havent changed in america all that much in 20 years :p people still drive like morons in the parking lots and grandparents complain about prices
Come to think of it: It might had been a full size VHS, RCA brand. I did have a JVC VHS-C but it had major focusing issues. -- Back in the day when not a lot of people cared about a teen bringing a camera into a public place.
The Caldor in Northampton, MA. I was in there once in 1993 when I was hoping to get my first cd boombox for Christmas. I turned on one of the cd players in the electronics dept only to find the volume had been turned up full blast. Talk about embarassing.
I use to bring my camera into banks even. I'll post a sample of that soon. Banks were really the only 50/50 thing where someone may say "don't do that" otherwise elsewhere there was more leniency.
I worked for Caldor from 1993 till they closed in ,I think 97...I was like 45 minutes late every day. LOL Im not a morning person. I was very young but I do have very fond memories of that store. Cool video~
I also missed Paysaver which was located at the left-end of the drive-in. Then Fashion bug moved in at some point. I liked walking around in Paysaver and seeing the tech toys in there. Use to get their thick buyers guide occasionally through the mail.
Yeah Caldor was a great store. Bradlees was too. Just when you think they were on top and doing well in business they both entered bankruptcy thought Caldor tried to avoid it but couldn't.
This is great! I worked for Caldor 78-85; brings back memories. This has still got the 80's design inside. What store is it? Is it Northhampton, MA? I think I heard that on the radio. You are lucky -- most stores then and now wouldn't allow video to be taken inside. This is a real time capsule. Thanks for posting it. (And it's a great family psycho-sociological portrait, besides!)
Back then being younger helped a little. Many were opened to me bringing in a camera, a few were not. I use to bring my camera into banks even! Yep - this store was in Northampton. Walmart is in it's place. Food Mart is now BigLots.
im gald u keeped this seeing this video brings back memeorys well they did redie the caldor were i lived before it closed but it had the same style on the outside and in untill they redid it
The greatest department store! Although, I remember it looking more like Target and having a Red Arrow logo, not a Brown Rainbow. Then again, I was probably 10 when they closed and the store I lived near was probably a bit newer. Great store though! I wish I had recorded the inside as well. Luckily, I was able to grab the outside before they tore it down =)

Wow Caldor is expensive, even is 1990. $12.99 for a dress shirt? They're $10 or under at Walmart in 2009.
victimsofthefuture 2 years ago
that cause it was made to last unlike the stuff they sell at wal mart you may pay more but you get your moneys worth

What's here now?
Good to see an old Caldor again. At that time, I only saw it in Albany, NY.

Walmart took it's space in 2001.

Big surprise! That happened across town from me, then they moved down the road, and a new Target was built. Long live Caldor!
