Hi I have imported the scene into Cinema 4d but some reason the object I put in the scene does not stay still.The object moves in a unsteady way. Also the scenes I created in Syntheyes does the same? I have tried using HD footage but it still does not work? I also fine tuned but I don't get anything like yours, Hope you can help, Best Mike:)

You should rather use image sequences. I had a go with QT ProRes 422 HQ and the same clip in a TGA image sequence, both saved on a raid0 setup. The TGA image sequence was at least twice as fast.

Mocha can perform camera tracking, however it will only export 2D tracking data for use with compositing applications.

Using SynthEyes, if you were to move the camera closer to the box, it would scale appropriately.

Question: Would this work well if the video footage was a 3D render, for example if i had a video made in a 3D landscape software and wanted to composite a 3D object onto it?

This landscape software you speak of wouldn't happen to be Vue, would it?

The method outlined here will work, however it would be quite unnecessary as the vast majority of 3D applications have the ability to export camera animation, Vue included.

Well it was Terragen 2 actually. I've found a 3DS Max plugin that allows various files to be imported from Terragen 2 into max, one of these does include Cameras, but i'm not sure whether this includes animation. But I havnt explored it enough yet, so your method will be my back up plan :)

Even if you had the serial number, you would still have to send some computer generated information to them so you get the exact activation code.

I did not mean a torrent, no (have had many bad experiences with them).

Voodoo tracker is perfect for most purposes. SynthEyes is only needed if one plans to do motion capture via visual means (i.e. 4 webcams). :)

how do you track a footage where you have it point to the sky. then point back to the ground. there is nothing to track in the sky

In this case, if there are no clouds for you to use as tracker points, you will need to stop the tracking before your points go off-screen and manually make a "best guess" track from that point. It can be done either in SynthEyes, or after you export the points to your 3D application.

No, AVI is the correct filetype. The video may be in an unsupported format.

You may have an easier time if you try converting it to H.264 or even uncompressed form.

Video quality is extremely important.  If you are not recording at a reasonable framerate (30+) and resolution, tracker-points will slip.

For fast movement in imperfect lighing conditions, no less than 720P @ 60fps is recommended.

I have no experience in Boujou 4. I would reccomend that you try to use Syntheyes, as the resulting camera tracks can be exported to practically any application, and the entire tracking process is automated. If you would prefer to stay with Boujou 4, and need further assistance, please PM me.

There is no established limit to the amount of video which can be tracked at once, but rather the limit to the amount of video which your PC can handle at once. For long sequences, you would need a decent amount of fast ram (eg, 8GB of 1066).

3DS Max is not strictly a requirement if you wish to add already-available footage to the tracked scene. It is only required for new CG additions.
