Very honest of him. It's true, people these days are very disconnected from what being alive and human is about. It's really the most relaxing and simple thing.
Hello everyone. For about six months ago (I think) I saw a fantastic interview with Steven Wilson where he talked about how young people experience their lives as irrelevant because they are aware of the fact that there are 6,5 billion people on Earth - therefore they find it extremely important to be famous. I have literally spent hours looking for it without succes. If anyone in here knows what interview I'm talking about PLEASE tell me - it will be very appreciated!
This movie was AMAZING!! It is so well done and is a great balance of your standard documentary, and the bizarre visuals. If you like SW, you'll love the movie.
funny what he is saying. last time I saw them in San Diego, there was this other band who ended the show called coheed and cambria which I never heard of before and by seeing that everyone was waiting for them to show up after PT ended I just realized these were all younger kids who didn´t quite got who they just had in front of their eyes! I really took of after PT finished. because all do I never herd the other band, i thought to my self, what the fuck can be better than what I just saw!!!
@veryintricated You didn't stay for coheed & cambria?? Great Progressive Rock band.. don't know if better than PT but good tho. That was for sure an Epic Progressive Rock Show (PT and Coheed & cambria) and you missed half of it just because of a pre-conception. shame!!!
When is this movie going to be released on DVD? I just got Anesthetize the other day through amazon.co.uk and it just blew me away. WOW GREAT JOB LASSE! The most important progressive rock band in the history of music (in my opinion) are: Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree and ELP.
Steven wilson is the initiator and creator of the new quantum rock, he is the best musician in the world enough to listen Insurgentes with good headphones to notice the new trend that I call the quantum rock
I appreciate the nice respomnses to my earlier comments but I don't think those people got the point. Moneygrubbers in suits who are more interested in selling toothpaste than they are in music pick what gets "out there". Just in my 50 years there have been countless bands that may have dramatically change the face o music that went unheard because the suits couldn't attach a product to them.
Totally makes sense. I think this theory could be expanded beyond music engrossing all media, especially movies and politics. Manufactured like cheap furniture, these "products" we are expected to adore simply because the sovereign media gives them attention. Completely fake, but we still buy it. This pisses me off. We really should listen to the "kids in their bedroom" instead.
This hits home. This is exactly what frustrates me and makes me so sad about today's ""musicians"". Hopefully more people will realize this and bands like Porcupine Tree or Opeth or Between the Buried and me who work so hard to get to where they are today can be recognized, and not scoffed at for their creativity and "not being real music".
How articulately this gentleman expresses what I believe to be the death of the art of music. American Idol isn't much more than a place for Karaoke singers to become the next wave of lowest common denominator of product pitchmen.
Those lowest common denominators have existed since the dawn of popular culture and are obviously part of POPULAR culture. Nevertheless, the art of music has carried on in an unflinching manner and will continue to do so.
These two approaches to music gather to different segments of the human population and since when has music as art been anything but the concern of a minority...those with a real love for the craft and musical expression.
I had the chance to watch Insurgentes film in my country, and I must say that Lassie Hoile made a marvelous job, portraying Steven Wilson's Art, in other words the passion of music, that is an extension of his soul. Let's applaud to both Artists.
yeah It's 43553e99.01 from the album Bass Communion III, but both lips of ashes and that track are similar. It's like comparing Drugged with Together We're Stranger.
actually what's playing in the background in the beginning is Porcupine Tree's Lips of Ashes (In Absentia), Lullaby just kicks in at the end...anyway, SW is God!
@LasseHoileDotCom Yes, it is Bass Communion! From the album 'III', but he did use it in the intro for Lips Of Ashes...Steven also used sounds from the song 'Nuclear Head of an Angel', from his Unreleased Electronic Music album, in 'Arriving Somewhere But Not Here' (Deadwing)
Hopefully, I will watch this movie on 4/13, at Monterrey, Mexico...It's a city not so poetic and surreal as Mexico City, but still has a couple of very special places, Mr. Lasse
@CreamyBabe07 Well, everyone who gives a shit about music should care. I personally both agree and disagree with the points Steve has been making. I agree what he says here, but I disagree with the attacks he has on the digital age. I don't think he realizes just what it's done for music in general, and him. @JohnyVirgil If you watch the whole documentary, you'll see he's not completely against the digital era. He knows what it has done for music and hm and he mentions it.
@xlicix Oh, awesome! How did you see the whole thing? Or, well, where can I watch the whole thing? ;-) I watched this and the extract on the Insurgentes 5.1 CD. To my knowledge the DVD documentary in full wasn't released, I'd love to watch it.
@JohnyVirgil There was a screening of the documentary in Monterrey, México, where I live (: I bought the CD+DVDA and it did not include the extract of the documentary, I guess they sell a different version of the album in México and the US
@xlicix youre right and so is Wilson, digital era of music is not bad thing at all, but in an interview about iPods and destroying them he said something like "its not wrong listening to compressed music from mp3 players but it has become too easy to close yourself into your own little bubble". its like S. L. Jackson said in snakes on the plane, enough is enough.
@siksik237 Steven wilson is the initiator and creator of the new quantum rock, he is the best musician in the world enough to listen Insurgentes with good headphones to notice the new trend that I call the quantum rock
damn, Steven Wilson is the man...we're a punk band, but we agree with alot of the things SW has to say about the music industry...he's a genius on many different levels
Interesting points, I probably would of agreed with him 100% not long ago. However I've opened my mind to pop music recently, and have learnt that good music is good music, whether it comes from Porcupine Tree or from a great singer on American Idol or X Factor. I can enjoy both. I cant really dismiss music now purely on the basis of where and what basis it came from.
What an interesting and insightful observation about the status quo in music. It's both striking to realize the level to which we seem to have reduced ourselves, and inspiring to wake up to that reality so that it can begin to be altered.
That is exactly what I think as well. I would say that the majority of the music I listen to has been from word of mouth and not from any TV show, radio or video. Good music doesn't always equate to popularity.
@Astrolopitekos "We should have some news about a late 2010 DVD release of the film soon - in the meantime it continues to play at selected international film festivals."
What's the song playing in the background? I can't quite place it.

"They're saying: Look, we're manufacturing this, it's a complete fake. And you're still gonna buy it."
And then they get all up in this shit when they realize that, no, we're not. It's not worth our money so we download it for free.
So they go to congress, bribe a few pigfuckers, and take our rights away.
YAAAAAAY.
