How lucky am I? I heard this singer in recital in 1951. I've always liked the batch of "lieder" recordings he made in 1939, allowing us to hear the beauty of voice when soft singing. - John Austin, Australia

Normally, I'm no fan of Björling's, but even I love this rendition. In most opera, his voice sounds too "whiny" and has a hard metallic edge to it that is grating to my ear. That isn't present here, however. Kudos, Jussi.
@marcxopoco Why is it assinine? Because I don't agree with you? Everyone hears voices differently. Sorry if you don't agree with me, but I'm sure Jussi doesn't expect you to take it personally or defend his honor. Get over yourself and grow up!!! I stated my opinion. If you don't like it, TOUGH!!!!
@MrSkylark1 -- I agree. He observes the vocal line and spirituality. Please also listen to Jessye Norman's equally superior interpretation of "Morgen" presented on YouTube.
How many times we hear this Strauss masterpiece of "total communication", when any singer, whether not yet known, or to hear it sung by an artist of this calibre, is heartbreaking, esp, as he was near, a too early death. Tx, I'm overwhelmed.
Dear Lord, what have I been missing from not hearing this voice all my life. This is truly stunning.

Too covered. Prefer the eminent Lotte Lehmann

@MrSkylark1 -- Lotte Lehmann also performed an orchestral version to "Morgen" at the Hollywood Bowl in 1948.
