Worst thing about Badajoz I read was the French skewered swords into planks and sunk them in the water for British troops to walk over. I think thats one @ 3:40.
@Raithulu in the books Sharpe was originally a 60th rifle, they got sent somewhere else, and he got left behind, i think the 95th then had the same happened. cant remember to well, but i think thats wat happened
Sharpe was NEVER a 60th rifle, after being an Ensign in the 74th in India, he was persuaded to join the 95th as a 2nd Lt as the Rifles didnt use the rank of Ensign. But the Rifles left for England during the Corrona retreat and was selected to be attached to the Light Company of the South Essex. I'm 98% sure apart from the date the rifles left and the corrona retreat if they are compatible, but the rest is 100% correct im sure
alright can someone tell me how the hell did obidayah become an officer? it doesnt tell in u in the tv series and this episode has been confusing as hell. someone who read the book please tell me what happened between Sharpe's Eagles and this episode. Thanks!
@jizzinmypants191919 Pretty sure he's just a sergeant, so not an actual officer. Not read the books but that's what I gather from this episode. It seems the history between Obidayah and Sharpe comes from when they were in India, before 1809
@jizzinmypants191919 He's not an officer, he's a sergeant. And he's a sergeant because, as Sharpe says, he "hops to" at every whim of any officer, so most officers like him.
@bh5496 If I remember the books, he was about to be hanged for stealing a sheep (pretty sure he was innocent), but his mother got him to safety, either by breaking him out, or taking his place on the scaffhold. He joined the army at 12, and rose through the ranks to become the sergeant that he is.
@hermesthegod1 I thought he was hanged, but hoisted up so he choked.his uncle cut him down when everyone else had gone, thinking the choking obahdiah was dead.
@mymagnoliatree who wouldn't fall for a man that twitches, talks to his hat... oh sorry his mother in his hat... and is constantly tring to get sharpe killed?

he is very well written, and i thought i hated the officers already, i also like that he isn't a psychopath (caring about his mother gives him actual feelings), evil but still human, his choices have driven him mad rather than a brain function making him pityless. very well done
i wonder how many British Soldiers have died in all the shitholes of the world ? We have only had one year out of the last nine centuries + or -, when records began to be kept , when a British soldier did not die fighting somewhere on this Godforsaken planet. That was 1968. The suns never set...............
The British did some God awful things when they got inside Badajoz. Rape and murder on a huge scale. Troops got out of control. Killed their own officers. We are not welcome in Badajoz to this very day.

I'm sorry mate, just a question: This is the Battle of Badajoz, where are the Portuguese and what uniforms are they wearing? Can you answer me, please?

oh right thankyou =) perhaps you can help me with another question, on sharpe's rifles, part 3, what is cooper, harper and harris eating from 4:00-5:15?
Stoppages were all essential costs (eg boot polish, pipe clay, darning wool, needle and thread). After stoppages, the average soldier had next to nothing
Pause right at 0:03 for a laugh =)

A Book:
Osprey Publishing:
Men-at-Arms Series
The Portuguese Army of the Napoleonic Wars (?3 Episodes)
It shows light greyblue for Dragoons,
Darkblue and earthbrown for Infantry, the only Informations I own.
