  • Pause right at 0:03 for a laugh =)

  • 5:36

Great song and a very poignant moment

  • My biggest complaint is that I have not heard Patrick Harper exclaim "God bless Ireland" even ONCE! :D

  • @SyntaxErr00r He does, he does! When Sharpe gives him a bottle for saint patrick's day.

  • Hearts of Oak is a cracking tune, Pete Postlethwaite was an excellent actor playing an excellent bastard.

    .

  • Worst thing about Badajoz I read was the French skewered swords into planks and sunk them in the water for British troops to walk over. I think thats one @ 3:40.

  • Only Lord Wellington could take Badajoz with 50 actors.

  • @skinkslayer i think he has a little more

  • @skinkslayer ah ah

  • why do the rifles look terrible as redcoats when everyone else looks awesome?

  • heart of oak. great song

  • Two questions: Why were the 95 rifles seemingly disbanded? and why is Sharpe still wearing the green uniform if they have?

  • @Raithulu in the books Sharpe was originally a 60th rifle, they got sent somewhere else, and he got left behind, i think the 95th then had the same happened. cant remember to well, but i think thats wat happened

  • @bookloverholic

Sharpe was NEVER a 60th rifle, after being an Ensign in the 74th in India, he was persuaded to join the 95th as a 2nd Lt as the Rifles didnt use the rank of Ensign. But the Rifles left for England during the Corrona retreat and was selected to be attached to the Light Company of the South Essex. I'm 98% sure apart from the date the rifles left and the corrona retreat if they are compatible, but the rest is 100% correct im sure

  • @Robaaaayy not sure, but i think Sharpe was in the 33rd at some point

  • @SixFootBabyStudios

yeah my mistake, private - sergeant in 33rd, then ensign in 74th then Lt in 95th. Forgot about his early soldiering :L

  • alright can someone tell me how the hell did obidayah become an officer? it doesnt tell in u in the tv series and this episode has been confusing as hell. someone who read the book please tell me what happened between Sharpe's Eagles and this episode. Thanks!

  • @jizzinmypants191919 Pretty sure he's just a sergeant, so not an actual officer. Not read the books but that's what I gather from this episode. It seems the history between Obidayah and Sharpe comes from when they were in India, before 1809

  • @jizzinmypants191919 He's not an officer, he's a sergeant. And he's a sergeant because, as Sharpe says, he "hops to" at every whim of any officer, so most officers like him.

  • do not let your base desires out of your breeches lol it could only work with price saying it

  • thesong at 4:57 is actually a french song but the english called it the fall of Paris

  • I like Hagman's leading the singing of Psalm 104.

After the Royal Artillery was done, the hills did indeed smoke!

  • 5:32 this song is a fail because it is the marching music for the Royal Navy not the army...Rule Britania... not any more we don't :(

  • @knockerjr Heart Of Oak FTW

  • 2:34 Are they suppose to be Perkins & Hagmans extras lol

  • Obadiah.... dsalkjfalkjflasjdfkasjdfl;asdlkjfla;kjswer2

  • Price stole that song from Captain Picard.

  • the hat has a past. it is made from the hair of his mother who he raped then twitched to death...sicko...i wonder if broadmoor was built then?

  • @stupidintellect90 he raped his own mother?

  • @bh5496 no...it was a joke...i probably didn't make it clear enough.

  • @stupidintellect90 but i wouldn't be surprized if that crazy sickko did rape and kill his own mother ;)

  • @bh5496 If I remember the books, he was about to be hanged for stealing a sheep (pretty sure he was innocent), but his mother got him to safety, either by breaking him out, or taking his place on the scaffhold. He joined the army at 12, and rose through the ranks to become the sergeant that he is.

  • @hermesthegod1 I thought he was hanged, but hoisted up so he choked.his uncle cut him down when everyone else had gone, thinking the choking obahdiah was dead.

  • Why would Price sing a Navy song???

    Beautiful song, though

  • @mymagnoliatree yep, gotta love a guy that will tell you what to do

  • @mymagnoliatree who wouldn't fall for a man that twitches, talks to his hat... oh sorry his mother in his hat... and is constantly tring to get sharpe killed?

  • @mymagnoliatree yes, you don't get much of them around these days... lol

  • @mymagnoliatree yeah, that makes it ok, its not a hat, its a hat that he thinks is his mother...

  • @mymagnoliatree no he talks to his mother in his hat... lol same thing really

  • Don't we all?

  • though he's a sargent, not an officer

  • i wonder how many British Soldiers have died in all the shitholes of the world ? We have only had one year out of the last nine centuries + or -, when records began to be kept , when a British soldier did not die fighting somewhere on this Godforsaken planet. That was 1968. The suns never set...............

  • amen brother. just as the sun will never set on the alliance of our two great nation. god save england, and god bless america

  • @AlienZygote010 nice words friend, respect to you and your country from a proud Brit.

  • @mordig - Thanks. And may God also forgive my grammatical errors committed when I type comments whilst on my phone.

  • The British did some God awful things when they got inside Badajoz. Rape and murder on a huge scale. Troops got out of control. Killed their own officers. We are not welcome in Badajoz to this very day.

  • "Rape, Murder, Arson, and Rape. "

    You said "Rape" twice...

    "I like rape" ----Blazing Saddles

    fits Hakeswill pretty well

  • I think,just think,that Obidaiah might be some wat off balans ,-)

  • wow the chosen men look like crap in those redcoats

i hope they get their green jackets back!

  • 2:46 imagine if you was one of those solders in the tent! talking into a hat! crazy!

  • the rifles look so weird in red

  • HES BATSHIT CRAZY

If I see these books, I'm buying them all, Obadiah Hakeswill is a EXTREMELY interesting character!

  • hes portrayed to be to be yellow and stinking, and (in my mind) he has a far worse twitch lol.

  • he is very well written, and i thought i hated the officers already, i also like that he isn't a psychopath (caring about his mother gives him actual feelings), evil but still human, his choices have driven him mad rather than a brain function making him pityless. very well done

  • Longest serving Sarg left over from the roman term of primus pilum, first spear century. roughly equivalent to Master Sergeant

  • is it hakeswill's rank that makes him carry that pike?

  • Kind off but the pike for a sergeant is a symbol of guarding of the colours

  • The rifles look better in green than they do in red. It matches the way they look.

  • I'm sorry mate, just a question: This is the Battle of Badajoz, where are the Portuguese and what uniforms are they wearing? Can you answer me, please?

    Thank you and complements.

  • A Book:

    Osprey Publishing:

    Men-at-Arms Series

The Portuguese Army of the Napoleonic Wars (?3 Episodes)

It shows light greyblue for Dragoons,

Darkblue and earthbrown for Infantry, the only Informations I own.

  • @TeutonicWulfKnight Why do you say Osprey publishing? Is that significant? The publisher usually isn't significant.

  • @MajBlood: I´m not quite sure, though to mention?

  • @TeutonicWulfKnight What I wanted you to explain to me, was that Osprey books are made to have lots of nice pictures in them.

  • not in this episode?movie?series?

the sharpe thingy's (sum1 plz tell me what i should call them O.o) had a low budget for the time i think, and also don't follow the books or historical fact too the letter. In many books the KGL helps sharpe, but they never appear in the thingys.

  • interesting that Hagman is a folksinger in this, and in reality too.

  • it's got a picture of his mother....or possibly the colonel's wife (can't remember) in it.

    I think anyway

  • 6:58 I really think this colonel is a good man and leader especially when compared with other slobs like simmerson

  • The time he was fighting this battle his mom died. He did find out until a long! time aswell which is sad

  • there's this whole twisted obsession he has with his mother, who saved him from hanging when he was young. As such, he considers her a protector of him, and worships all mothers (in really creepy ways). By talking to the picture of his mum, he's talking to the spirit of her as his guardian.

  • It was his uncle who saved him from the hanging....

  • his uncle did it for his mother, so hakeswell has twisted it so he beleive it was his mother who saved him..so he was close enough.

  • The 2 guys sitting at the back of the tent at 2:33 must thing Obedia's gone mad.

  • It's war, your bound to lose your marbles during such large scale conflicts.

  • he's got a picture of his mum in it

  • you know if you look closer, the british backpack have modern side release buckels

  • I like the bit where the chosen men are singing their psalms. 3:58

  • me 2! =)

  • That bit with the Riflemen swearing each others stuff to their comrades was touching :(.

  • I heard about pulling rabbits out of hats, but no mothers :O

  • Ooh that bastard Obadiah should burn in hell!

  • what are stoppages?

  • Taxes, essentially.

  • oh right thankyou =) perhaps you can help me with another question, on sharpe's rifles, part 3, what is cooper, harper and harris eating from 4:00-5:15?

  • Stoppages were all essential costs (eg boot polish, pipe clay, darning wool, needle and thread). After stoppages, the average soldier had next to nothing

  • thanks! so cooper was going to give him his boot polish and pipe clay and stuff if he died?

  • na,cooper meant he had to pay for the stoppages that he hadn't

  • the picture is of the colonels wife.read the books

  • its a picture of queen elizabeth. he call's it mother

  • I wonder if Obadiah has his mother's head in that cap.

  • Wow!! Price has a good singing voice!!!!
