  • I hope people listen to this without prejudice... Such a nice song

  • if everything that's great was in the past maybe the end of times is close ?

  • My favourite CT song...

  • I just have to cry when I hear this song.... like many others from him. He can touch my soul like nobody can.

  • Beautiful

  • only 22k views is ricdiclous.... This AMAZING

  • one of my favourite songs...beautiful :)

  • cat steven's music is almost Holy

  • Cat is the sanest man I've ever known of.

  • well..it seems I was right all along ..Cat says this song is about snow. I got it right.

  • @doorcat13 Snow? Just Snow? Well some cultures have 10 or twenty different words for snow of different kinds.

I always thought it was a close call to death (perhaps a driving accident or Cat's illness) and Lilywhite was the angel on the otherside. Oh well, We will all be passing her way again.

  • @lilackine Well. I saw a recent video of Yusuf singing the song. He said (not to burst your bubble) he was on some type of a "bad trip" while touring with Jimi Hendrix and, in coming down, he opened his door...it was snowing.......just.....snow.......

  • @doorcat13 I dont care what Cat (YUSUF) SAYS. i KNOW WHAT HE WAS SINGING ABOUT! lol

  • @aihjah that is the most beautiful load of nonsense bollocks

  • I never apprecated this song when it first appeared (I was eleven then), but even so would likely have missed it, which would have been a pity.

  • heard ricky gervais saying this is one of his favourite songs so i thought id listen and i really like it.cheers ricky :)

  • So AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good track

  • "I raise my hand to touch the wheel of change, taking time to check the dial" --just an excellent image. I always knew that the song had something to do with at least a figurative feminine entity. Why would anyone call snow "She"? Now that Yusuf is performing the song again-- he just did with Fairport Convention- maybe an interview will shed some light on it- a fav of his, he'd said. Also maybe in his Majicat dotcom website-- lots of articles and interviews, treasures there he's added to!

  • Funny, I always thought it meant the White Lily Flower. I always pictured it in summer.

  • if this song isn't about snow it should be

  • Go from this to Sisters of Mercy by Leonard Cohen.

  • I'm going....i'm curious

  • Time Rise, Time Fall, time leaves us nothing, nothing at all

    Words just

    Words don't know

    Words leave you nowhere

    Nowhere to go.

    I'm going back

    I'm going back......

  • he uses such deep feelings in this music

  • I'v just played this 10 times, love it

  • I love this song too, as long as I've been listening to Cat songs, I have never heard this one. Simply beautiful!

  • anyone know what this song means?

    i can't work it out

  • yEAH, iT mEANS tHANK tHE LILY wHITE, bITCH

  • I seem to think he is speaking of a beautiful pale virgin. Ofcourse everyone gets their own meaning. First I thought he was singing of winter?

  • this song reminds me of snow. I don't know why...but ..jim morrison said "real poetry doesn't say anything..it just opens doors..you can walk in any of them"...well i'm paraphrasing..but you get the picture

  • I'll venture a guess as to the meaning of the song. As I recall, Cat Stevens was seriously ill--with tuberculosis, if I'm not mistaken. He recovered, but that (and perhaps another brush with death) left a deep impression on him. I think, therefore, that the Lilywhite is a symbol of death, but with hope for spiritual renewal.

  • My interpretation is the Lilywhite is the nurse who took care of him.

    I like yours too.

  • One of Ricky Gervais' favourite songs.

  • Totally beautiful.

  • irresistable

  • Its true the strings arrangments are beatiful..and makes this song...unresistable...

  • Of all Cat Stevens songs I think that this one captured the essential spiritual thread that was to connect his future twelve LP's/CD's together. It also brings to light again the genius of Del Newman who did the String Arrangement. Totally Awesome
