@Leligno80 Oh, please! The average civilian received the right to vote in the USA when it was founded. Women received it much later. Get your panties out of your crack. It's obviously you who thinks you're a victim!
For all who seem so against feminism, let me make some things clear.
1) I am not a feminist. This was aschool project (the topic I didn't really get to choose).
2) This is not about whether or not women should have rights. So stop commenting about it. For the love of God, this is the HISTORY of women's rights in America. Due to the events described in the video, women have become a substantial part of society. That is the ONLY part of the video that hints at the current.
@fangirlishxxJOY How can u read about the suffrage movement, make a documentary on it, then state "i am not a feminist"? Has this project taught you nothing?
You (and everyone else) needs to realize that feminism is about equality. If it wasn't for feminist activism you wouldn't be in a educational institution.
@bee8rt3 Feminist- "[someone] advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men."
I appreciate what women have done for me. And if I had been a woman in that time or if I was born anywhere else in the world, I'm sure I would have promoted it. But I'm an American and was born in this time period. As of now, women are fairly equal with men. So I don't think of myself as a feminist. I am relatively comfortable with my status and opportunities.
Women should not have the right to vote! What ever happened to the good old days when men and women had gender roles? Men are natural born providers. Women are natural born nurturers. Freedom is what America is about, but we should not allow women, gays,or Non-Christians (Jews are okay) to run for political office or vote. Women, homosexuals, and Muslims have taken over politics and have run this country into the ground. What would our forefathers say if they saw us now? Pray to Jesus.
The only people that had the right to vote were mainly the rich upper class, many of them being land owners. Women who owned their share of land were given the right to vote, just like men who were land owners. The middle and lower classes weren't automatically given the right to vote, and the common working class man had to make the sacrifice that women didn't have to make to get their rights. Women were granted the right to vote, men had to bleed for it.
I would blame feminism for the feeling of anxiety and agitation that men feel today. The work place been the most hostile place where men have to tip toe on egg shells around women who are just waiting for any kind of sexual innuendo to drop them right in it. Thank God i work on my own in my job, i dont envy offiice workers a bit.
Women love to be adored and admired, yet a man has to be careful with even a compliment, it could cost them their job.
voting isnt a right its a privellage for those who have to fight and die for there country whether they like it or not if your not going to war and not included in the draft you shouldent have a say in what happens in the goverment untill women are included in the draft my oppinion shall stand simple as that
@MetalicaFan2007 And thank YOU for reminding me that this video was even here. Haha.
And I must add that it seems, in your view, that many men should not have the right to vote either since not all men have served in the military. Currently, we don't have the draft, and although I agree than women should be included, I don't see why they shouldn't be given the right to vote.
@fangirlishxxJOY ok well heres the thing the draft isnt gone its not in use since were not technicaly at war with any specific army or nation but if we were to go to war with lets say britian then the draft would be re enstated and most men would have to pack up and head to war whether they like it or not but women dont have to women should be able to vote if there included if a woman voulunteers for the millitary she will be given the privellege to vote im not sexist not by a long shot
@MetalicaFan2007 I understand that. I believe that the women have no control over whether or not they are included in the draft. If we were to go to war tomorrow with some random country, I would hope that women are included. However, since we are not included, I believe that our right to vote should not be questioned.
Fighting for your country should not be the only requirement. It's important, yes, but not everyone is able to. Many cannot enter the military due to health issues or age.
@MetalicaFan2007 Should those people be disallowed to vote? People that do not support the troops should not be allowed to vote, I agree, but does every single person have to fight? If they did, who would be left at home?
Also, as the sexist, do you mean my new description? If you do, that wasn't directed at you at all. It was directed at the idiots commenting below and beyond.
disabilitites are different thats a tricky question and i applaud it for i havent realy thought about it
age is different for most have or were in the risk of being deployed at one time or another so they already pooled there time as they say
disabled and health issues is different remeber millitary service dosent have to be shooting if you have a bad heart or ashma you could operate drones or work in hospitals
@fangirlishxxJOY the mentaly handicaped should not be allowed to vote since they do not have the rational thinking when it comes to choosing a suitable candidate
the physicaly handicaped is an interesting subject and id like to do some research befor i answer that question
remember i dont mean combat duty many women in wwII stayed home and built shells and ammo others were nurses they deserve the right to vote if you sat home on your ass you do not derserve the right
@MetalicaFan2007 Are people with asthma and what not even allowed to apply? I'm not sure.. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I've even made a speech on women being included in the draft. Haha. It's just that not everyone is able to apply, and there is much work that needs to be done here. People that just sit at home and feed off the (so-called) wealth of either their parents or the government without doing anything productive with their lives are incredibly selfish.
@fangirlishxxJOY well remember millitary dosent mean marching with an m16 theres a carrer in millitary for basicaly anything any civilian careear there is theres usualy a counter part of it in the millitary
taxes is payed by everyone simply because there living in the country its alot different and dosent realy factor into voting cause everyone even illegals pay it on all our goods so then wed have to give voting to them and etc etc
@MetalicaFan2007 Those people are the ones who should be barred from voting. In my opinion, so long as people do their jury duty, pay at least enough attention to politics to keep current, try to pay their taxes, and honestly work for a living, they deserve the right to vote.
@fangirlishxxJOY people always say that a woman should not be on the frontlines and belongs out of harms way yes women cant take as much physical and emotional trauma than men but in a war setting the whole girl guy mentality is gone everyone is something your either shooting at or shooting with my ownly problems with women on the frontlines is if they hold the sqaudron back hiking through miles of desert with a 100 pounds of equitment and 20pounds of ammo in 110 degree heat isnt
@fangirlishxxJOY an easy feat even for a man so physicaly they would be slowed down due to females decreased bone and muscle mass (and no im not being sexist but the male body is built stronger than the females but a female is more flexible than a man but hey take that up with god or darwin not me)
but anyway thats my only real concern but still i think a woman should have a place somewhere in the millitary or atleast be expected to answer the call of duty
@fangirlishxxJOY im srry i got a lil off topic there but still i believe a woman or anyone for that matter including illegals and draft dodgers that do not answer to the call of duty should be barred for voting since even though they pay taxes there still not fully comitting to the country they wish to vote in the womens suffrage movement has a dark side to it im not going to get into it since youll think im nuts lol but the later feminist movement etc has screwed my generation bad
Obi Wan Kenobi et al. had interesting things to say about the formation of the womyn's movement. He said rape trauma "surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the movement together." He definitely said something like that; quite insightful for a MAN.
I think it's important that women have the right to be as smart or as stupid as men; as noble or as cowardly; as tender or as brutal.
Universal suffrage didn't grant women the right to anything other than the right to vote - whence the word suffragette. Modern - is it modern any more? - feminism fought against other forms of discrimination: professional, legal, sexual. White men will never be able to fully understand this.
White men! For a teacher of English to foreign students you're plenty bloody niave and prejudice. You think in Afghainistan, Iran and other countries like that acknowledge and champion womens rights for profesionalism, legal, respect etc etc? Not in this life, quit hating.
@Woodlander65 A tad too quick to jump up in righteous offence. Please think before you get angry. The vid is about the USA. I would have hoped that would have been obvious. I am making no claims for Iran or Afghanistan. I think you're a little bit stupid for jumping to your conclusion.
You dont get off that easily, white men you said, which puts you as unfair and prejudice, because there is no white man present as American president at present, and the one that is he's a champion of womens rights is he? Yes, and i'm a dutchman and your stupid for not seeing everything for what it is.
Dont forget it was white men fighting and dying in trenches in the Great War that got women to equality. Look at their position in life today, women have never had it so good...
...and rightfully so too. You think White men werent favourable on this and bringing women on further than they have in their history? Of course they were.
But please bring other ethnic males through to your system if you think they can do any better. The thought is laughable.
@Woodlander65 A fairly simple question I'd like to ask is why women found themselves in such a position of political and social oppression 100 years and more ago. So yes, I'd say - and judging by the fact that suffrage for women was so long and hard - white men in America (as the only ones with political power at the time) were responsible. Or, do you think that men gave women equality without women having to struggle at all? I hope you're not saying that.
You brought up it was a US vid, but you could say it applies everywhere in the western world, i understand that. I also understand that you were talking of oppression on women of the past before the vote, but tell me did women really have it so bad ?
I'm aware of all the horror story's of women's history, but they have always been a part of us and in a vast majority of cases have shared whatever we have had.
What does it matter, today though they have more choices and are equal.
@Woodlander65 I would never claim to see everything for what it is. Omniscience is not one of my traits.
White men didn't fight in the trenches for women's rights. That's a new one on me. Nor did I say that white men were responsible for the plight of women. I said, if you read closely, that white men will never understand what it was like to fight oppression in the USA as did the black people and women generally. Am I inaccurate? Please try to understand.
Look here, Women in the UK got the right to vote in 1918, America 1920. This came about and was acknowledged because there was a serious lack of able bodied men, and because of this women were required to take on male roles.
This led to a new confidence in what women could do, and did do, and after the Great War they got the vote, by who? The Politicians. Who else?
Look up the Cat and Mouse Act of 1913 {Applied to UK ONLY} who started it? Men.
@Woodlander65 "Women have never had it so good." If that's true, then let's cheer. That being said, please tell us all what makes you qualified to make comments about the position of women in America? I'd rather listen to someone with first-hand experience. And you do seem to be saying that everything women have gained in the last 100 years is due to men. Am I right in that interpretation?
Am i qualified to make comments about the position of Women in US? As a believer and champion of all womens rights, Yes i think i do have a right, wherever their from. I'm very pro-life to women, to all colours and cultures and i believe in improvements and happiness on womens conditions.
I'm married to a woman and work excellently with women in the work place so they are critical to life just as we are, but their gains over the last 100 years, could they have done it without men?
Comment Bickerers......Please please do not confuse todays feminist with anything the Suffragettes accomplished. Quite frankly, the Feminist Movement went far left after the NAWSA made history. If you haven't notice current feminist do not call themselves Suffragettes or associate themselves with NAWSA. They have branched off to other groups like League of Women Voters and National Organization for Women (NOW). And I must say neither of these groups represent ALL women like the Suffragettes did.
Women should just fill support roles? I was under the impression that the military assigned people according to aptitude anyway, why is it even an issue?
i would love to but feminists dont want women to have to make any sacrifice and i think you misunderstand i dont women fighting in wars (they have poor performance in combat) i want them filling the support roles that men fill in peace time (quartermaster corps, medical corps, etc.) that way it frees up more men to fight at the front
Name me one feminist organization that systematically opposes women being part of the draft (rather than opposing the draft outright) or admit you just made a baseless assumption.
Because I know that statement is bogus. I'm a feminist. I joined the army at 18 and just recently returned from a tour in Iraq. I'm a feminist. Although I oppose the draft, I think that as long as there is one, it shouldn't be gender selective.
Nancy Pelosi said that women dont belong in the draft she is noted as being a self proclaimed feminist im not saying ALL feminists are anti women doing their part in a time of national crisis but militant feminists are such as The Women's Committee to Oppose Conscription
stating that the Army "only gives women minor job opprotunities"
Nancy Pelosi's personal beliefs aside, I really wonder what would happen to a politician's career if they pushed for women to be included in the draft as many men as well as women oppose the draft and many people still oppose to women serving in the military.
I know that in the 80s NOW (a feminist organisation) published a resolution opposing male-only draft registration. Congress considered drafting women during WW2. There were some unsuccessful legal challenges to the male only policy.
To say that all feminists think X is painting with a broad brush. To go on to posit that discrimination against men, (which is something opposed to feminism's goals) especially a form of discrimination that has existed longer than any incarnation of this country's feminist movement, is the fault of feminism is dishonest. I don't know. I guess people are just used to framing movements that they don't belong to for the injustices that exist in this world.
im not saying its an injustice im saying that it doesnt make any sense that women get the rights of a man without having to make the sacrifices of a man i would just like to see the government say "yes if we have to we will draft women for a support role and not just men" it was Thomas Jefferson that said "Every Citizen must be a Soldier"
on the subject im glad you joined the Army one of the reasons i support women being drafted into NON COMBAT SUPPORT ROLES is that the military is already stretched
so thank you for your service my dream is to earn a commission as an officer in the US Army and become a Army Ranger
again from the bottom of my heart thank you for serving our country
do u want 2 hear something funny mel b from the spice girls says that the group is 2nd 2 the suffergetes in giving womens right she said we empowed girlpower. i nearly chocked this is the woman who got preggers by eddy murphy for his money she went bankrupt in britain.
Plus you've thrown yourself at exery exploitative capitalist walking the earth since the birth of the human race. In this way you have achieved your fathers design, namely the turning of paradise, into a rubbish dump. And we all know who your father is don't we...
You should work for Pertinent1 as prostitutes if you want self respect...
Pankhurst was a mass murderess, who had her minions trick hundreds of thousands of men into the trenches of 1st World War, by following them around, and labelling them cowards, vociferously, if they didn't want to ruin at machine guns in france.belgium etc... And second and third wave feminist is one of the four pillars of Political Correctness/Positive Discrimination. Gays, Black Supremacists and Islamofascists are other three pillars. You FASCISTIC little whores have nothing to feel proud of.
More ugly women fighting for their rights. How about hitting the gym and getting in shape? Then you little ladies can attract a rich man. That's what they want but are too proud to admit it.
Well, just to inform you, looks got nothing to do with their will to have the right to vote.
Besides, you are 36 years old according to your profile, you should be old enough to know when to keep your thoughts to yourself. Saying such a thing is just childish and silly, it also makes you look incredibly stupid.
Don't get your panties in a knot MelissaMao. Yes, I am 36. So what? I may look incredibly stupid to you, but who are you? It is just like a broad to think she can boss a man around. That may work with your hen-pecked husband, but not me. You are from a women-run country so that may explain you.
Men and women have physical differences, true. Some people argue say women's bodies are more beautiful then a man's. Some say mens' bodies are more powerful than a woman's. But neither gender is superior to another because our minds have equal capabilities. Equality is found in the mental, not the physical, and superiority should be set aside for God, our SUPREME creator. you know what they say, people make themselves superior because they feel inferior. you must feel awfully inferior.
Thanks for your input little lady. I am not sure where your little mind was wondering to/from based on your superiority comment. When did I say one sex (yes sex, not gender) is superior to another?
You making me "feel" superior is like a farm animal making me feel superior. Neither count.
You hypocrite:
"he brings me a a glass of champagne and has a good job to make my money." Then three minutes later: "wuts with all the sexist comments?"
Obviously you're too unintelligent to understand that sex is synonymous with gender. my quotation " I think men deserve equality as well but as long as he brings me a a glass of champagne and has a good job to make my money" was in response to thebug1656's coment "I think women deserve equality but as long as she brings me a beer and does my laundry". you comparing me to "a farm animal" implies you think my mind is INFERIOR like an animal. do your homework before u give such unprepared responses
i think women are shite,im better because i have a penis

It is forgotten that many men did not have the vote in the UK either. Some facts:-
Reform Act 1832:- Resulted in 15% males having the vote.
Representation of the People Act 1884:- Increased suffrage but still 40% of males did not have the vote.
Representation of the People Act 1918:- Universal suffrage for males over 21 females over 30.
Representation of the People Act 1928 - Votes for all over 21.
In photos the policemen arresting the suffragettes did not have the vote either.

Men.
Who abolished it?

I was under the impression that the military assigned people according to aptitude anyway, why is it even an issue?
ihaveopposablethumbs 2 years ago
ok here me out on this
have you noticed that women get all the rights of a man but they dont have to register for Selective Service (The Draft) like all of us men have to.
isnt that giving you the reward without any payment?
johnnyreb1025 2 years ago
Voting rights aren't related to military service, otherwise people physically unable to serve, or simply chose not to, would not be able to vote.
If you think women should be included in the draft, then petition your government to change its policy.
juliewashere88 2 years ago
i would love to but feminists dont want women to have to make any sacrifice and i think you misunderstand i dont women fighting in wars (they have poor performance in combat) i want them filling the support roles that men fill in peace time (quartermaster corps, medical corps, etc.) that way it frees up more men to fight at the front
johnnyreb1025 2 years ago
Name me one feminist organization that systematically opposes women being part of the draft (rather than opposing the draft outright) or admit you just made a baseless assumption.
Because I know that statement is bogus. I'm a feminist. I joined the army at 18 and just recently returned from a tour in Iraq. I'm a feminist. Although I oppose the draft, I think that as long as there is one, it shouldn't be gender selective.
juliewashere88 2 years ago
Nancy Pelosi said that women dont belong in the draft she is noted as being a self proclaimed feminist im not saying ALL feminists are anti women doing their part in a time of national crisis but militant feminists are such as The Women's Committee to Oppose Conscription
stating that the Army "only gives women minor job opprotunities"
johnnyreb1025 2 years ago
Nancy Pelosi's personal beliefs aside, I really wonder what would happen to a politician's career if they pushed for women to be included in the draft as many men as well as women oppose the draft and many people still oppose to women serving in the military.
I know that in the 80s NOW (a feminist organisation) published a resolution opposing male-only draft registration. Congress considered drafting women during WW2. There were some unsuccessful legal challenges to the male only policy.
juliewashere88 2 years ago
To say that all feminists think X is painting with a broad brush. To go on to posit that discrimination against men, (which is something opposed to feminism's goals) especially a form of discrimination that has existed longer than any incarnation of this country's feminist movement, is the fault of feminism is dishonest. I don't know. I guess people are just used to framing movements that they don't belong to for the injustices that exist in this world.
juliewashere88 2 years ago
im not saying its an injustice im saying that it doesnt make any sense that women get the rights of a man without having to make the sacrifices of a man i would just like to see the government say "yes if we have to we will draft women for a support role and not just men" it was Thomas Jefferson that said "Every Citizen must be a Soldier"
johnnyreb1025 2 years ago
As I said, I agree that in the interest of equality, as long as men are included in the draft, so should women be.
juliewashere88 2 years ago
look odds are we are disagree on this matter no matter what
after looking at your profile i think we disagree on a great many things
johnnyreb1025 2 years ago
on the subject im glad you joined the Army one of the reasons i support women being drafted into NON COMBAT SUPPORT ROLES is that the military is already stretched
so thank you for your service my dream is to earn a commission as an officer in the US Army and become a Army Ranger
again from the bottom of my heart thank you for serving our country

Plus you've thrown yourself at exery exploitative capitalist walking the earth since the birth of the human race. In this way you have achieved your fathers design, namely the turning of paradise, into a rubbish dump. And we all know who your father is don't we...
You should work for Pertinent1 as prostitutes if you want self respect...
This is good way to apoligise...

That's what they want but are too proud to admit it.

bjackrose: Oh, really now?`
Well, just to inform you, looks got nothing to do with their will to have the right to vote.
Besides, you are 36 years old according to your profile, you should be old enough to know when to keep your thoughts to yourself. Saying such a thing is just childish and silly, it also makes you look incredibly stupid.
MelissaMao 2 years ago
Don't get your panties in a knot MelissaMao. Yes, I am 36. So what? I may look incredibly stupid to you, but who are you? It is just like a broad to think she can boss a man around. That may work with your hen-pecked husband, but not me. You are from a women-run country so that may explain you.
bjackrose 2 years ago
Men and women have physical differences, true. Some people argue say women's bodies are more beautiful then a man's. Some say mens' bodies are more powerful than a woman's. But neither gender is superior to another because our minds have equal capabilities. Equality is found in the mental, not the physical, and superiority should be set aside for God, our SUPREME creator. you know what they say, people make themselves superior because they feel inferior. you must feel awfully inferior.
SalmataGirl 2 years ago
Thanks for your input little lady. I am not sure where your little mind was wondering to/from based on your superiority comment. When did I say one sex (yes sex, not gender) is superior to another?
You making me "feel" superior is like a farm animal making me feel superior. Neither count.
You hypocrite:
"he brings me a a glass of champagne and has a good job to make my money." Then three minutes later: "wuts with all the sexist comments?"
BTW, why do you need a man? Make your own money.
