Hidden messages it seems throughout this video. People controlled by distorted reality caused by the media. Symbolized by them walking around with tv's for heads. Technology taking control, symbolized by the robots. As they (we) approach (the year) 2012 in the video (2:27) people start waking up and taking off the tv's which symbolizes breaking free from the grip of mainstream media reality distortion. Then they start waking each other up and at the end confront things as a united group.
I ordered The Valley at a local HMV probably 3 months ago now and it's still not in apparently... Something about the distributor in negotiations or something... I guess I should try to order online from the Web site instead...
STEAMPUNK. Oh this video, not to mention this SONG is so amazing. Catchy and memorable, possibly not the highest, but who gives a crap. Songs are about meaning and depth, not about how catchy they are!
There's a narrative here, whether you like it is up to you:
In an old steampunk building, the band tries out virtual reality helmets (flashback during the song's bridge). The helmets let them see the real world around them, but also show them a collection of scary VR robots. They freak out and run. Finally, one by one they realize "Oh yeah, I can just take the helmet OFF." They do. Ta da! No more robots! Perhaps virtual reality helmets are not the ultimate gift for this holiday season.
I fell in love with eisley back in 2005! This video only makes me love them even more. Amazing. They all look so beautiful. I hope they make more videos. They always like to tease us first, ha but i don't care. Everything they do is worth the wait.
Between this and the "Memories" video a few years back, I'm really impressed with Cory Sheldon's work. Now that Eisley isn't putting the magical realism in its lyrics anymore, they should keep working with him and have him supply it visually.
I love the video, there are some odd parts, but loved the Steampunk style, and, as some people said, the fact that the robots look like something Sherri normaly would draw. Well, i loved the whole video
Wow - I never realized how much the girls looked alike until this video! Since you can only see their faces, without hair color, I had to watch it several times to figure out which one was which. Very, very cool vide. Love it!
the more i watch this video, the more i fall in love with it<3
i think it's saying that over the years, we've been relying so much on technology that our minds don't really hold our own ideas anymore when they're too focused on industrialization and society. in the end, we all just really need to be our own person.
ironic though, that if that's the message, it took a bunch of special effects to tell it! haha.
Loved lovedddd the beginning. So cool! Wish there was less 'acting', more of their mouths moving to the song. The song is so wonderful and you girls look AMAZING- you give me goosebumps!!
watching it the second time, i do see a lot of parallels between this video and invasion, with the style of memories. i still love it though, you can't go wrong with steampunk(;
this pretty much looks like a steampunk version of the Invasion video, including ending with stacy. what a disappointment. and at least the smarter video was aesthetically pleasing, unlike the nasty graphics of this one. come on eisley, don't let that awful I wasn't prepared video scare you off of ever having a storyline in your music videos.
my god. this was absolutely amazing. best video for them so far by a long shot. love you Eisley you guys always amazing, and Boyd was right Cory has come a long way :D
@MyRetroMeltdown I know. I was just joking. The idea of hiring people to wear blue screen buckets on their heads in your place struck me as funny. I wonder if that is what the had to do? Wear some blue or green material over their head during filming.
this is the best looking family in the world! ... i can't even put into words how much I love Eisley's uniqueness, creativity, voices, instruments, albums.... die hard Eisley fan since 2005 and they never cease to amaze me <3 next video... "I Wish"??!?!
This is too awesome, I guess it was made with the same guys from that Memories video which I love so much ! Great video ! Please don't stop making fabulous music and video !
Cory Sheldon, the director of this video, did Bethesda's video for "Dreamtiger" at the same time he was planning "The Valley." Google dreamtiger and Bethesda, and you can view it.

"The Valley" Music Video script abridged.
EXT. OVERGROWN RUNDOWN "ARTSTY" BUILDINGS
CORY SHELDON WHACKS the AUDIENCE in the face with a sign reading "STEAMPUNK"
CGI EISLEY runs around pretending robots are chasing them.
CARTOON ROBOTS pixelate around, sometimes wobbling in the vague direction of EISLEY.
Eisley: Our heads are fake or something? Whatever we trust this will be relevant to the lyrics.
Cory: This is a music video?
They RUN AROUND some more. Eventually they're no longer CGI.
EricTheKartoonKing 3 months ago 11
I think they used body doubles & dubbed the faces in later.
