yes sex ed starts in sixth grade, but they do not teach you about sex itself at that age. I do not see a problem in teaching kindergarteners about gays. It is exactly like teaching children about the different races, cultures and belief systems. They are just teaching that things like this exist, not that this is the way one has to be that way. I was reviewing all these comments as this is the first I have heard of Prop 8(I'm from MA). I noticed that the fear of gay sex education seemed to be a major reason that a lot of people are pro Prop 8. First of all, sex education is usually not taught until high school which is a time that adolescents are considered capable of handling such information. The only thing I was taught in middle school was about the different changes male and female bodies go through during puberty.

The truth is if the agency receives one dollar of state funding then they will have to view a same sex couple the same as an actual mother and father relationship. That would be in the best interest of the child. THey are not the same so there is no reason to pretend they are. Just as a single parent is not the same as 2 parents with a mothyer and father. Both have characteristics that help develop the child. Same sex couples can adopt, but not before a relationship with mother and father.

Civil Unions don't exist in California, they only exist in three states and only provide rights at the state level, unlike marriage which provides federal rights. The problem with Prop 8 is the potential conflict on a federal level, especially around property rights, making it a landmine for dismissal by the Supreme Court.
One senator told me to my face that he favored gay rights but refused to support it. He frankly admitted that he feared political suicide. Al Gore finally endorsed gay marriage, and it's believed that because of this, he didn't get the Democratic nomination.

If two gay couples were going to adopt kids it would be much harder to get insurance for those kids because the couple do not have the same standing as married couples. Marrage is business just as much as it is in love. We are depriving people when we do not give them that equal right.

Every gay man out there has a history of either being sexually abused, experimented sex with a male friend, or was raised with no masculine role model. Whatever the activity was it left the young male with a feeling of guilt. YES on Prop 8. It doesn't take away any rights of gay couples, but it does take away religious freedom and many more freedoms that we take for granite. Gay couples alreay can have a "Domestic Partnership" that gives them the exact same rights as a marriage. If you don't like the name change it, but don't take away our name, Marriage. yes sex ed starts in sixth grade, but they do not teach you about sex itself at that age. I do not see a problem in teaching kindergarteners about gays. It is exactly like teaching children about the different races, cultures and belief systems. They are just teaching that things like this exist, not that this is the way one has to be that way. If children of gay people can be straight and vice versa I don't see why teaching about homosexuals in school can only result in gay relationships.

I was reviewing all these comments as this is the first I have heard of Prop 8(I'm from MA). I noticed that the fear of gay sex education seemed to be a major reason that a lot of people are pro Prop 8. First of all, sex education is usually not taught until high school which is a time that adolescents are considered capable of handling such information. The only thing I was taught in middle school was about the different changes male and female bodies go through during puberty.

Defining gay marriage restricts religious liberty (In Massachusetts Catholic charities can't adopt out as their doctrine is "discriminatory") and restricts parental rights (In Massachusetts, homosexual fairy tales were taught as equal treatment without parental authority). As a teacher, I have to create a safe learning environment for all my students. Some of my students have gay parents, or other gay family members. Some are growing up gay. Part of making sure these students are safe is teaching all students to be tolerant of different kinds of families. Let's not forget 16 year old Laurence King, who was shot and killed in class just because he was gay.
I won't allow these children to be harrassed in my classroom.

Tolerance is teaching to respectfully understand the differences of opinion, and tolerance for gays is already taught in schools, at least it should. I certainly hope you're teaching tolerance. There is a difference between teaching children to be tolerant of different opinions and teaching children that a sexual act is right or wrong. That should be left to parents.

Adoption is not religious freedom. There's nothing in Christian doctrine that requires adoption as a part of worship. Church run charities like that operate outside of the bounds of religion. If a church running a soup kitchen refused to serve blacks because of their religious views, would that be okay? What about a mosque that refused to adopt to white protestants because they felt their religion was corrupt? In both cases, those churches could refuse to marry them, however

The truth is if the agency receives one dollar of state funding then they will have to view a same sex couple the same as an actual mother and father relationship. That would be in the best interest of the child. THey are not the same so there is no reason to pretend they are. Just as a single parent is not the same as 2 parents with a mothyer and father. Both have characteristics that help develop the child. Same sex couples can adopt, but not before a relationship with mother and father.

What does it do to society? Mass., California, and now Connecticut have proven that society goes on just fine with gay marriage. There have been many studies of children raised by gay parents, and they turn out just fine as anyone raised in a loving stable home. There's no "agenda" being spread. They're just as likely to be straight as anyone, about 90%. Marriage of any type is good for kids. So lets have more stable loving families. Pro-family is pro-gay marriage. Prop 8 is anti-family.

Judges did not force their ideology on you. Your church can take a position on the anti-gay marriage amendment in California, but there may be certain restrictions on the Church contributing directly to the California anti-amendment forces. That goes for churches who are against prop 8 as well as those who are for it.

More misinformation. Domestic partnership is not a federal institution. DP's are easier to get into and nullify. DP requires cohabitation. There is no putative partner recognition. There's no loss of religous freedom here. Churchs are well within rights to not conduct gay marriages. The only counter examples you have are charities operating outside of the bounds of religion. Gay marriage won't change church sponsored adoptions for gays, that's legal already, thank God!

Civil Unions don't exist in California, they only exist in three states and only provide rights at the state level, unlike marriage which provides federal rights. One senator told me to my face that he favored gay rights but refused to support it. He frankly admitted that he feared political suicide. Al Gore finally endorsed gay marriage, and it's believed that because of this, he didn't get the Democratic nomination.

Mabye God made gays,lebians,and bisexuals(ambidextrous in love) for the same reasons he made people of different races and color.So that despite our differences we could learn from each other and love each other as equals. Although so far we seem to be failing. Its the differences in us all that makes us great,if we were all the same we would be no better than clones. If God didn't love us for being different, God would just make us all the same.
