You can also look at it in the sense that jews could have created christianity to control without notice. They are almost the same just with lazy rituals. Just an overtone not a study. So that would open up that gap of a so called self oppressed religion for sympathy. And they do quite well there. I don't believe in evolution or religion or cults or governments or science. They are just forms of controlling the masses. They all have meat as their food. With very few exceptions.
Many christians do believe evolution to be anti-christian, because it flies in the face of some of thier core beliefs.
If evolution is true, then the story of Adam & Eve is most likely patantly false. Without Eve you dont have sin, and you might even start to doubt the bible in it's entirety.
Once you doubt the bible, atheism isn't far behind. Christians are affraid that accepting Evolution is the first step to the death of Christianity.
I know... these Christians are called Fundamentalist, and they make other Christians look like idiots.
One only needs to use about a teaspoon of logic to figure this out: If Genesis says the world was created in six days, and science absolutely proves otherwise, then the Genesis must be allegorical.
Your argument makes it seem like black people should have given up civil rights during the civil rights movement so white people don't feel like they are being treated unfairly. Of course Christians are the ones made to compromise, they are the majority.
Ah, I'm glad I'm living in a european country...the only religious folks we got here are seniors... religion doesn't play any major role in my country whatsoever. Just in name through the christian democratic party. But thats all...
The world Muslim population is almost equal to that of the world Christian pop (and Muslim pop is expected to surpass that of Christian pop in the near future...there are loads more young Muslims, and Muslims have higher birth rate...that's just a fact, although here in Canada a journalist wrote an article about that and a Muslim org. took the magazine to the Human Rights Commision (??) Thankfully, the complaint was rejected...there was nothing hateful about the article (!) I am agnostic btw.
This chart represents the US. That is where I live and I am familiar with it. So while I can't speak for other countries, religion is seen as a legitimate argument for politics.
I don't know much about Canadian politics....but it seems like they have the right idea.
"oppressed" implies the strength of one group over another, so while christians couldn't say they're oppressed, they could still feel discriminated against due to their beliefs. remember, big groups are made of individual people.
let's not let the non-acknowledgment of this semantical asterisk allow us to hate on people in the majority. would it be OK for hispanics to hate on caucasians in america because they're outnumbered?
i'd never use my vegan minority status to hate on omnivores...
"oppressed" implies strength of one group over another, so that might not apply to large groups, but people in large groups can still be discriminated against.
so let's not let the non-acknowledgment of this semantical asterisk allow us to hate on the individual people who make up big groups.
example: "because most americans are white, i get to hate on all of them thanks to my minority status, because i'm hispanic!"
or am i taking this 4-second long video too seriously?
"or am i taking this 4-second long video too seriously?"
A little. Haha.
But you make a good counter point. From my observation/perspective, we have freedom *of* religion but we have lost our freedom *from* religion. If a Christian were to say gay marriage or abortion go against *their* beliefs (and they do all the time), somehow this is seem as a perfectly valid argument. Before we ask what majority rules, we have to see if it is constitutional. That is why we are a Democratic Republic.
and i should also add that there isn't always strength in numbers. the caucasian ruling class who dominated the afrikaners during apartheid in south africa only made up 10% of the population.
I used to know the percentage but the majority of politicians are evangelical. When surveyed, the *vast* majority of people said they would not vote for an atheist. I've found some very unpleasing statistics.
i live in canada, but yeah i didn't mean that christians don't have a big influence there, i was just stating that generally.
and in regards to the high percentage of politicians being christian, i don't believe most of those who claim they are. because the christian vote is the biggest, you kind of have to say you are. and that's not their fault that it's skewed that way, but it's greasy to lie about it.
(btw not a hater, i'm just always the devil's advocate. i annoy lots of friends that way)
well living in a democratic state throws power into the hands of the majority. i'm an anti-statist anarchist so i don't think this kind of thing should even be an issue.
theocracies are bound to arise, depending what the biggest religion in the country is. that's why the iraq conflict and 9/11 conflict can't be stopped diplomatically. these aren't countries fighting, these are centuries-old ideologies fighting.
it was only a matter of time, once democracy started sweeping the world.
Hold on. Are you talking about the US still? (I'm asking because this chart represents the US and US politics are all I'm really familiar with).
The US is not a Democracy. The US is a Democratic Republic. If we were a Democracy, there would be no civil rights. We would also have no chance against prop 8. No Constitution, no chance.
"If we were a Democracy, there would be no civil rights." What are you talking about? The only difference between a Democracy and a CONSTITUTIONAL Republic like the US is the Republic uses elected representatives unlike a Democracy which has EVERYONE get together to vote. Civil rights still exist when voted in.
How many times do I have to say it? The US is not a Democracy. We are a Democratic Republic, meaning the Constitution comes before personal opinions. So no, not democracy ftw.
Right, and notice that New Zealand is not a World Super Power either. 20 of the World's greatest inventions came from the US. What was invented in NZ?
Here in the U.S., atheist politicians have to pretend to be Christian to be elected. You can't get anywhere in politics without kissing Christian ass.
Where do you place the 1.5 billion muslims? OTHER? If so... your graph is wrong.

In fact, this whole "evolution is evil" bullshit is actually detrimental to Christianity.

Depends where you live. BUT christians are the only ones ever made compromise. Opression? Nah, christians do a good job of 'opressing' themselves.
make a video about jews being opressed and see how long it lasts on youtube.

What compromise, properbollix? Is the First Amendment suddenly a compromise? Oh, those graceful Christians and their generosity!!
