@jabcreations not sure. just a very basic knowledge of computer innerworkings. my computer (sony vaio vpccw17fx and yes, its a laptop) isn't very good for games, but after recent research, its a really shit idea to overclock a laptop. so i guess im on my own here. thanks for trying to help, though.
@Droopah1 Generally you should be able to get at LEAST an extra 200 MHz without having to use voltage. If you accidentally goof something up so long as you only change the FSB (and don't touch voltage at ALL) even if the computer blue screens it'll reboot just fine.
If you want a laptop that doesn't suck at gaming AMD's A-Series start at $430, go to Newegg --> Laptops --> Advanced Search --> CPU-Type and choose "AMD A-Series".
@jabcreations thanks. also, on a side note, would keeping my CPU cooler speed up its performance a bit? because it sometimes gets a little hot so i was considering getting another fan or another way to cool it down.
@Droopah1 You should have a DIRECT CPU heatsink/fan, at least one exhaust on the backside right next to the CPU and good airflow being sucked in from the bottom front MINIMALLY. I also highly recommend a side panel fan and top exhaust fans (heat rises). Not all CPU's from the same die are created equally, you may just have a hot CPU so-to-speak, look up aluminum versus copper heatsinks. Generally lowering the temps increases the ability to overclock though keep in mind some CPU's cant.
@MegaHumanbean No idea, I can't answer anything in regards to crashes. You can try crap cleaner, downclocking anything overclocked, etc. Sometimes it's just a bad install of the OS (which happens to me occasionally with certain things).
@TehShadower Did you install nTune and do you have a dedicated Nvidia graphics card installed? If you're not sure get a copy of GPUz to determine your video card's model number.
@ImClichA If you've never OCed a particular part 1~3 MHz each time, apply and if it's stable repeat. Once you know the max stable OC THEN you can directly OC to it.
hey i have amd 64 1.6 ghz and i move it all way to the right and it gives me 2 ghz and my cpu is 28 celcius only i think i cud go up to 2.2-2.4 ghz but its all way to the right lol and voltages are locked and i have no any overclocking options in bios how can i overclock my cpu more?
@progameruk1 Most people hit a problem with going about 19 or 20X on FSB multipliers and have to drop something else by one to go further...sometimes might be RAM and sometimes might be bridge speed. You're using Intel so I'm not sure.
@progameruk1 On AMD systems you have to drop the HT Multiplier by 1 to increase the HT Clock (FSB on Intel I think) beyond 19. I don't think voltage is necessary for about 300 MHz unless you have a quirky CPU. Be very careful with voltage OC and only use it on your CPU and keep the increases minimal. However don't take only my word for it.
@jabcreations i dont think its the volts i increased the fsb an it didnt change from its stock 1.25v from got to 2.7ghz from 2.5ghz temps were going no higher then 55 but it still frooze =s
@progameruk1 My last Intel CPU was a P4 2.26 GHz with a 533 bus and RDRAM 1066 long ago in the days of socket 478. I simply can not help you with this.
@Geetarist2009 Look up the error message on a search engine, use "double quotes around the error message" to find pages addressing the specific issue.
I just watced your vid on OC CPU on the nvidia control panel. Its pretty basic using nvidia's CP The problem is when i first accessed and OC there wasnt any problems. Now when i OC to the same spot, my computer like shuts off but not totally. Is this happening because I am OC too much (aka to an unstable point). Im trying to run my q6600 to 2.6 from 2.4 (stock) and eventually raise it to 3.0 or even 3.2. Also can you keep the CPU OC'd even after restarting/shutting down? if so how?
@NgCommaRoy Not sure, every CPU has stability limits, even mine will only OC stably regardless of voltage I've added past a certain point. You may have to add voltage but that's where you're on your own as far as advice from me; I try to help people up to that point but with voltage OC you can destroy computer parts if you don't know what you're doing.
@NgCommaRoy Comments are hidden until I approve or delete them to keep genocidal commies in their place. Ask your question in a single comment, if it's more then you really should should post on a hardware forum.
I've got an AMD Sempron LE-1300 Dual Core at 2.3Ghz...my goal is to get it to at least 2.7Ghz and still be stable..do you think that is possible? *Any advice is very much appreciated :)
@aerocratz Drop your HT multiplier from 10x to 9x to get your HT clock to be able to go over 219 and remain stable...however at that point you may have to add voltage which is the point where you could potentially fry something so tread lightly. ;-)
@jabcreations hi!! im kinda nuub on overclocking :D can u pls help me sir.. hr is my spec got an intel e4500 core2duo 2.2ghz, is it safe to overclock it to 2.7ghz without frying any of my hardware? and will my system be stable overall? tnxx so much
@kintatzu333 So long as you don't touch voltages the worst thing that could happen is having to reboot to your OS such as Windows; that's basic overclocking. Advanced OC which I don't advise for most people is slightly adding voltage to only the CPU (which could potentially physically destroy hardware). Expert overclocking involves adding voltage to all sorts of components and I can't stress not doing that unless you really already know what you're doing.

@crackkn Increase the bus from 201MHz by one~two increments. You'll likely hit a wall around 19~20MHz OC on the bus past which point you'd have to get in to voltage overclocking which I don't recommend for the inexperienced.
My Phenom 9500 is very hot, at normal load it's 56C and under heavy load it reaches 66. It is reaching those temperature overlocked or not. Can anyone help me?.
2. I bought a HP computer, every came as stock so i'm not sure...
3. yes it is running
I removed the heatsink fan and cleaned out a thick patch of dust, now the temperatures during idle is around 42C. under normal load its around 48C. Eventually I will be buying a new heatsink fan though.
@Envisez First Phenoms are 64nm where as Phenom II CPU's are 45nm. Add to the fact that if you BUY an already built system it will hardly ever be as good as a system you can build yourself.
Unfortunately, my MOBO uses ATI and Ntune just won't work. I have a "Nettop" that Im using for my HTPC, and it's utilizing an ATOM 330 @1.6ghz. I'd really like to be able to Overclock this CPU even a little. So is there a "Universal" type of CPU OC Software that you know of that can increase the FSB or what ever would help at all? I really appreciate it. And I've subscribed to ur channel.
@xtraflo There is no universal OC program otherwise you wouldn't be asking about it.
I haven't owned an Intel CPU since the 533 bus.
Try looking up 'Intel Atom overclock'.
Your best bet for faster speed is to disable virtual memory, make sure you have at least 2GB of RAM for XP (over 9,000 GB for Vista), and if you can afford it an SSD hard drive with native TRIM support.
Hey, dude help me please When I hit apply after overclocking it say "FBS modification failed, restored to orignal settings" please help how do I fix it?
I have AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE and my bios doesnt seem to support it i can only do AI overclock to 10% which is frequence from 3.11 GHz to 3.4 GHz (Or something like that i dont remember) But ppl say you can overclock this processor to over 3.5 Ghz, can i do that with this software? And i have a water cooler, so temperatures wont be a prob.
Im kind of a noob on this voltage changing thing. If you have time, could you please think how much voltage i should increase? A website says the stock voltage is 1.425V on this processor.
That's the lowest/cheapest nForce 5xx chipset however I suspect that you're NOT using an nVidia GPU. Also you're likely to have onboard video and if so it's unlikely it can be overclocked.
@jabcreations im using nvidia GPU i have 9600GT i can overclock it but i get an error message when i start nTune , i just have to click OK and nvidia control panal starts but its very slow
It only means your bios sucks or your motherboard was intended for lower-end mainstream to entry level where overclocking is an option left out to cut costs.
Apparently it supports hybrid SLI which is as entry level as a system intended for any kind of SLI can get though I find it odd it wouldn't have anything in the bios to OC with. Gigabyte motherboards used to hide menus with CTRL+F1 for some reason. That's all I can tell you. It's still safe to OC in Windows so long as you follow the directions.
You can leave the OC on for years and nothing bad will happen so long as the voltage for the frequency is stable. If it doesn't have enough voltage it'll just crash. Too much voltage can destroy it. Hence why I recommend a 19-20-25MHz OC on the part I mentioned in the video.
Everything YOU need to know is written in the directions, FOLLOW THEM!
83K views...I do NOT have the time repeat myself; hence the video. If you don't know what something is look it up!
The valuable lesson you're supposed to learn is self-sufficiency. If you can't do a simple search query or follow directions then you're not going to go far in meat-space. When you have a question that is NOT covered by the video (the ENTIRE video) then feel free to ask.
No, Intel has locked out nVidia from making north bridge chipsets so you'll have to OC in a different manner. With a socket 1366 check your motherboard's drivers CD, it's highly unlikely that an OC utility would not be included.
Some times you just don't get much if any real overclocking headroom. We're only guaranteed the stock manufacturer's clock speeds, anything more is beyond what we paid for.
hey, you seem to be a very bright young man and i am having difficulties overclocking my AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ .. ill give you my system specs.. i only wanna overclock to 3.0 GHz specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 4GB DDR2 1066 Zalman CNPS7500-CU CPU cooler Nvidia GeForce EN8600GT Magic 3 case fans (single 120mm dual 80MM) 500GB SATA drive AMD 780G chipset ASUS M3A78-EM mother board im trying to use the AMD overdrive utility.. i really need help and it woul be greatly appreciated
H! CAN YOU help me I HAD BIOSTAR 850g but my I have new pc hp but I cant run on my bios whit push of delete when it strats up DO you know how can I open bios ???
If you didn't build your computer yourself/bought an already built system then it'll likely be one of the function keys such as F10. Look at the startup screen to determine which one it is or just mash them all at the same time.
The memory interface is the primary way to tell what class the video card is within it's generation, then GDDR type. I am not mad. You said 'no...' signaling you don't understand what I was talking about hence my restatement. Look up memory interface on the web.
A nVidia GeForce 210 only has a 64 bit memory interface; it's rock bottom unless you consider integrated graphics.
Keep in mind that you are not guaranteed any overclocking. Also some chips (CPU/GPU/etc) will OC more then others. You might simply have one that just won't run all that faster but if it worked at the default clocks then that's all they needed to let it leave to go to retail.
Use CPUz and if you can't tell what the motherboard model is from that get a flash light, program open up the side of your case, and look for the model number on the motherboard.
*IF* you had read the video comments you would know already that this is the INTENDED effect of OCing via the OS. Once you know WHAT settings you want *THEN* go in to the bios. If you do NOT know how to reset your bios then figure that out before you even DREAM about changing anything in it.
haha within 5 minutes, i loaded up "urban terror" a game i play frequently (when my system is not OC'ed), my system crashed and i got the blue screen of death, but of course when i rebooted windows, everything was fine again, and that's why it's called the "safe" method (for noobs like me)
Just lower your clock a little each time until you find a setting where your OC doesn't crash the game. Better cooling always helps with stability. Also if you're using an AMD chip but NOT a socket AM3 chip then upgrading to an AM3 should produce much more stable/higher OC from my personal experience.
Thanks. Yes, my next computer will definitely have much better cooling, this isn't the first time I have run into cooling-related issues with a laptop and I don't expect it to be the last, next time comes the water cooling, with a self-built desktop. Thanks for your time and advice.
I'm running my amd dual core laptop OC'ed from 1.7ghz to 2.13ghz, no freezing. The "reference clock" is running at 250 Mhz though, with a cpu multiplier of 8.0x. So i have overclocked it to the max.
all of the i5s and i7s are the EXACT same thing. the only difference is that the cheaper ones lock at a certain Mhz and you cant overclock any higher.
"super noobs" because they bought a Dell? I just bought an XPSx and ive been learning computers for quite some time now. I think that was a pretty MORONIC thing to say. Am I supose to think your
The vast majority of computers I've fixed are Dells. People with greater technical skill almost always build their own computers. If you have a respectable amount of knowledge about computers in general you would know that Dell has long used proprietary parts to locking customers in to replacing things like motherboards and thus avoided that company. Same thing with old Pentium 3 HP rigs in example. I don't care if you think I'm cool, I care if you learned something new.
u get ripped off when u buy a dell thats why they call you that. if u look at the parts that comprise your dell ull realise that they are very cheap and you would save hundreds building it yourself!
When i open Ntune i have this type of ERROR: Unknown SEEPROM Device (DevId=1420c2)
i have an AMD processor and NVIDIA Chipset and NVIDIA Southbridge!!! Please help me how can i fix this error:Unknown SEEPROM Device (DevId=1420c2) TNQ
i maxed out my voltage to 1.325 is that too much? could it burn? and how much could i overclock now? i have succesfully overclocked to 3.0ghz from 2,6ghz
I don't recommend changing the voltage and if you do the more you increase the voltage the shorter the lifespan CPU will function. You failed to specify a 2.6GHz what...there are dozens of CPU's the work at that clock.
it sounds like you're speaking some alien language...*sigh* i wish i could understand technical terms like these.

I'd really like to be able to Overclock this CPU even a little. So is there a "Universal" type of CPU OC Software that you know of that can increase the FSB or what ever would help at all? I really appreciate it. And I've subscribed to ur channel.
Thanks Again, X~
xtraflo 2 years ago
@xtraflo There is no universal OC program otherwise you wouldn't be asking about it.
I haven't owned an Intel CPU since the 533 bus.
Try looking up 'Intel Atom overclock'.
Your best bet for faster speed is to disable virtual memory, make sure you have at least 2GB of RAM for XP (over 9,000 GB for Vista), and if you can afford it an SSD hard drive with native TRIM support.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Hey, dude help me please When I hit apply after overclocking it say "FBS modification failed, restored to orignal settings" please help how do I fix it?
dangerdon128 2 years ago
@dilberto3 You don't have nTune installed, you have to manually download and install it otherwise it won't show up in the control panel.
jabcreations 2 years ago
I have AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE and my bios doesnt seem to support it i can only do AI overclock to 10% which is frequence from 3.11 GHz to 3.4 GHz (Or something like that i dont remember) But ppl say you can overclock this processor to over 3.5 Ghz, can i do that with this software? And i have a water cooler, so temperatures wont be a prob.
CheatEnginer 2 years ago
@CheatEnginer Increase the voltage...at your own risk...and only to the CPU itself by minimal margins.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Im kind of a noob on this voltage changing thing. If you have time, could you please think how much voltage i should increase? A website says the stock voltage is 1.425V on this processor.
CheatEnginer 2 years ago
@CheatEnginer AMD Overdrive, beyond that read. I don't know all, even though I seem like I do.

How to overclock my Grahic Card if nTune dont support nForce 520LE chipset ?
darknessRO02 2 years ago
That's the lowest/cheapest nForce 5xx chipset however I suspect that you're NOT using an nVidia GPU. Also you're likely to have onboard video and if so it's unlikely it can be overclocked.
jabcreations 2 years ago
@jabcreations im using nvidia GPU i have 9600GT i can overclock it but i get an error message when i start nTune , i just have to click OK and nvidia control panal starts but its very slow

Search, I'm not here to give free tech support for every possible error people will encounter.

Is it unsafe to overclock the pc from windows when the bios doen't let me overclock anything at all..?
UntakenNick 2 years ago
It only means your bios sucks or your motherboard was intended for lower-end mainstream to entry level where overclocking is an option left out to cut costs.
jabcreations 2 years ago
It's a biostar gf8100m2+ Te..
UntakenNick 2 years ago
Apparently it supports hybrid SLI which is as entry level as a system intended for any kind of SLI can get though I find it odd it wouldn't have anything in the bios to OC with. Gigabyte motherboards used to hide menus with CTRL+F1 for some reason. That's all I can tell you. It's still safe to OC in Windows so long as you follow the directions.
jabcreations 2 years ago
I did OC the CPU and the VGA with the nvidia control panel and it worked fine with COD4..
But I left it OC'ed only for a few minutes because of that concern..
UntakenNick 2 years ago
You can leave the OC on for years and nothing bad will happen so long as the voltage for the frequency is stable. If it doesn't have enough voltage it'll just crash. Too much voltage can destroy it. Hence why I recommend a 19-20-25MHz OC on the part I mentioned in the video.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Thank you really much..

i have ntune but no motherboard settings. i was able to overclock my videocard but i get no motherboard settings -_------
johnyrockshell 2 years ago
Then you DID NOT PAY ATTENTION!
jabcreations 2 years ago
i read all the annotations and payed close attention -_-
johnyrockshell 2 years ago
No you didn't because you would have known from 0:00 what to do.
jabcreations 2 years ago
you basicly said get ntune and open it. then click on motherboard settings but I DO NOT HAVE THAT! my point: do i have a diffrent later version
johnyrockshell 2 years ago
At 0:00 what does the top-right annotation say?
jabcreations 2 years ago
oh -_- ok what a north bridge set -_-
johnyrockshell 2 years ago
Everything YOU need to know is written in the directions, FOLLOW THEM!
83K views...I do NOT have the time repeat myself; hence the video. If you don't know what something is look it up!
The valuable lesson you're supposed to learn is self-sufficiency. If you can't do a simple search query or follow directions then you're not going to go far in meat-space. When you have a question that is NOT covered by the video (the ENTIRE video) then feel free to ask.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Will this method work with core i7 920, and how far can i overclock core i7 with that program?
DMaN4245 2 years ago
No, Intel has locked out nVidia from making north bridge chipsets so you'll have to OC in a different manner. With a socket 1366 check your motherboard's drivers CD, it's highly unlikely that an OC utility would not be included.
jabcreations 2 years ago
mine wont say adjust motherboard settings---

Profiles aren't simple though they are not impossible. It'll work if you do it correctly, look up a tutorial online.

MrTAntiChrist 2 years ago
Some times you just don't get much if any real overclocking headroom. We're only guaranteed the stock manufacturer's clock speeds, anything more is beyond what we paid for.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Ahh ye packard bell lol :p but hey thanks for this anyway since if I really did it I think my laptop would be fried lol

latvietis164 2 years ago
If you didn't build your computer yourself/bought an already built system then it'll likely be one of the function keys such as F10. Look at the startup screen to determine which one it is or just mash them all at the same time.

The memory interface is the primary way to tell what class the video card is within it's generation, then GDDR type. I am not mad. You said 'no...' signaling you don't understand what I was talking about hence my restatement. Look up memory interface on the web.
jabcreations 2 years ago
I mentioned nothing about memory or clock speeds. I was talking about the MEMORY INTERFACE.
jabcreations 2 years ago
A nVidia GeForce 210 only has a 64 bit memory interface; it's rock bottom unless you consider integrated graphics.
Keep in mind that you are not guaranteed any overclocking. Also some chips (CPU/GPU/etc) will OC more then others. You might simply have one that just won't run all that faster but if it worked at the default clocks then that's all they needed to let it leave to go to retail.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Use CPUz and if you can't tell what the motherboard model is from that get a flash light, program open up the side of your case, and look for the model number on the motherboard.

when i overclocked my amd sempron 3200 this way, but when I turn my computer off and turn it back on the overclock doesnt save. Can anyone help?
TheDman52 2 years ago
*IF* you had read the video comments you would know already that this is the INTENDED effect of OCing via the OS. Once you know WHAT settings you want *THEN* go in to the bios. If you do NOT know how to reset your bios then figure that out before you even DREAM about changing anything in it.
jabcreations 2 years ago
its not supposed to save
drumstickicecream 2 years ago
haha within 5 minutes, i loaded up "urban terror" a game i play frequently (when my system is not OC'ed), my system crashed and i got the blue screen of death, but of course when i rebooted windows, everything was fine again, and that's why it's called the "safe" method (for noobs like me)
donovanx3 2 years ago
Just lower your clock a little each time until you find a setting where your OC doesn't crash the game. Better cooling always helps with stability. Also if you're using an AMD chip but NOT a socket AM3 chip then upgrading to an AM3 should produce much more stable/higher OC from my personal experience.
jabcreations 2 years ago
Thanks. Yes, my next computer will definitely have much better cooling, this isn't the first time I have run into cooling-related issues with a laptop and I don't expect it to be the last, next time comes the water cooling, with a self-built desktop. Thanks for your time and advice.
donovanx3 2 years ago
I'm running my amd dual core laptop OC'ed from 1.7ghz to 2.13ghz, no freezing. The "reference clock" is running at 250 Mhz though, with a cpu multiplier of 8.0x. So i have overclocked it to the max.
donovanx3 2 years ago
people have been able to OC their Core i7 920 from 2.66 to 3.8 on air STABLE, lol that's 1,140 Mhz increase, pretty crazy.
42% increase.
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
yea and u can do it on stock coolers too, but not recommended.
Gin132456 2 years ago
all of the i5s and i7s are the EXACT same thing. the only difference is that the cheaper ones lock at a certain Mhz and you cant overclock any higher.
tealknightx 2 years ago
your wrong. i5 doesnt have hyperthreading unlike the i7

excuse me but can i ask, why are people
"super noobs" because they bought a Dell? I just bought an XPSx and ive been learning computers for quite some time now. I think that was a pretty MORONIC thing to say. Am I supose to think your
'Super Cool" or sumthing for saying that?
brib333 2 years ago
The vast majority of computers I've fixed are Dells. People with greater technical skill almost always build their own computers. If you have a respectable amount of knowledge about computers in general you would know that Dell has long used proprietary parts to locking customers in to replacing things like motherboards and thus avoided that company. Same thing with old Pentium 3 HP rigs in example. I don't care if you think I'm cool, I care if you learned something new.
jabcreations 2 years ago
u get ripped off when u buy a dell thats why they call you that. if u look at the parts that comprise your dell ull realise that they are very cheap and you would save hundreds building it yourself!

i maxed out my voltage to 1.325 is that too much? could it burn? and how much could i overclock now? i have succesfully overclocked to 3.0ghz from 2,6ghz
kassu09 2 years ago
I don't recommend changing the voltage and if you do the more you increase the voltage the shorter the lifespan CPU will function. You failed to specify a 2.6GHz what...there are dozens of CPU's the work at that clock.
