  • 2:13 nintendo zappers from outer space!!!

  • Im a human being from the planet earth!

  • haha at 2:02 does he really say "I've buried my carreer"? :))) seems legit!

  • Thumbs up if Cinemassacre's review brought you here.

  • i guess two people didn't get their liabi seeds.

  • I went out to see this movie instead of staying home and watching the Star Wars Holiday Special, thus Message From Space will always have a place in my heart.

  • THE MESSAGE: THIS B. MOVIE SUCKS MORE THAN A 12 AMP EUREKA VACCUUM!

    ° EXSANGUINATION THE MOVIE ©2011 °

  • OMFG, it's a cheesy cavalcade of Space Kabuki cosplay and a Warhammer 40K game with fireworks tossed around the table. I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE.

  • I fondly remember this as The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen. Thanks for letting me share this with my friends who've doubted the veracity of my review for the past 30+ years.

  • This may be misplaced nostalgia for the films of the late 70s/early 80s but this looks like incredibly cheesy fun.

  • @PaulSebert Hey dude, it's a free country! You can like whatever you wana like, .. . no need to make apologies for it !

  • this movie i think lasted a little over 2 weeks in the theater and disappeared. it was pretty bad as my dad commented through the whole movie, and as we were leaving the theater, another movie goer said he enjoyed my dad's comments more than the movie.. it was a pretty bad movie

  • 0:42 Haha, the narrator gets interrupted

  • japanese fake “STAR WARS”movie.

    it was made in 1978.

  • My dad took me to see this upon its release, I was 10 years old and thought it was awesome. I distinctly remembering him saying something like, "That was DUMB." LOL

  • crazy how theres no dislikes

  • There's space pirates?

  • This movie does indeed borrow a lot from Star Wars, but it's far from being bad. The story is decent, the FX were really good for the era, and the musical themes were quite catchy. Now, if you REALLY want a bad Star Wars rip-off... Well. Look up Youtube for Turkish Star Wars, directed by Çetin İnanç. And be forwarned, your eyes will hurt...

  • This film is way better than Star Crash. And has a tunnel sequence that "influenced" Return of the Jedi's Death Star Battle over Endor.

  • It wasnt that bad it was just too long.

  • I just saw this movie. I can see why it might have been a big deal at the time it was released, but the dialogue is so horrendous to the point of being funny. Apparently this was popular in France. I can't help but wonder if maybe its a lot better in French.

My favourite scenes no doubt were with Vic Morrow. He was just hilarious possibly the only thing I liked about the movie.

After seeing a number of his films, I'm really starting to wonder if Kinji Fukasaku was such a great director.

  • Almost forgot this existed! It may look cheap by today standards, but of all the Star Wars rip-offs this was one of the most ambitious, as far as scope, costumes, models, phyrotechnics, cast and extras. It looks like a living sci-fi anime and it has huge amounts of cheese, but it is not dull by any means. BTW, Star Wars was inspired by sci-fi films and westerns from decades earlier (as well as mythology), whereas most of the SW rip-offs were made as soon after.

  • A PHANTASMAGORIA of sights and sounds!

  • My dad is trying to get me to watch this, I don't like star wars that much anyway, no way he can get me to watch this, I don't have anything against bad special effects or anything, it just looks like shit

  • San Ku Kaï ;-)

  • Dude now I know the name of this film. I saw this when I was young. Found it on netflix instant play. Definitely watching this again.

  • @Morgethein You have a point.

  • If this is fantasy, give me the pills now! Vic Morrow?... Nar!

  • This is a film that really deserves a remake. It was pretty bad, but I think with modern-day technology and a good director it would really shine.

  • @millenniumf1138 It was made with 70s technology, and when we were young we all saw it wonderfull a great serie but now we look it like a bad finnished film, please dont compare it with todays films.

  • The plot of "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back" was heavily borrowed from Toei's "Magic Serpent". Think about it. A wizard trains a young man to join forces with him to fight the evil wizard that has taken over. Sound familiar?

  • NO! I'm a human being from the planet earth!

  • Yes, it may have copied some bits from Star Wars, but George Lucas turned around and copied scenes from this movie for Return of the Jedi. In particular, the battle scenes where the human spaceships go inside the superstructure of the enemy planet and destroy the reactor. It's very similar to the Death Star II battle with Lando. Hmmmmmm...

  • @UltraKDB11 And Star Wars was a blatant ripoff of Flash Gordon...It's a vicious cycle, isn't it?

  • @adamrothraisdead

Star wars was not a rip off of flash Gorden it was a combinations of several movies and books

  • I have this on dvd. it's especially awesome because it has Sonny chiba, Etsuko Shihomi, and Hiroyuki Sanada in it. Plus it's directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

  • Star Wars spawned more crap movies than any film in the history of cinema.

  • this looks a lot like the puppet series starfleet

  • I saw this on USA Network's "Night Flight" sometime in 1988, thought it was neat but yes, you have to be half asleep or drunk to really enjoy it! :^D

  • I recommend you watch this while half asleep, drunk, high, or insane.

  • @Dyli Insane was my choice. lol

  • @Dyli I did 3 of 4 of those things and it still wasn't enough.

  • I saw this in the Theater in Boston in 1978, and it was so cool! I recorded it on VHS from TNT back in the late 1980s. Have since transferred it to DVD. THis was made in 1977 to cash in on the success of STAR WARS. I noticed by this time, the Japanese had started to update their spceship, SPFX, and production design. They really got up to date by the time they made SAYONARA JUPITER in 1984, and even then, they "borrowed" a few scenes directly from 2001:A SPACE ODSSEY.

  • Yes - one year later after changing a handful of characters, jiggling the storyline around a bit and adding a catchy theme tune they actually managed to created the massive hit series San Ku Kaï which was as big in France as Battlestar Galactica was in the UK!

I have fond memories of them both. :-)

  • Star Wars is a copy cat.

  • I love how Netflix says it's "inspired by the Star Wars saga." Don't get me wrong, the movie looks like B-movie greatness, but no, it's a cash in on Star Wars.

  • @Dyli Not mention that in 1978 there was no Star Wars "saga" as such, and the X-mas special was still seven months in the future (Nov. 1978). BTW, I saw it in the theater as a kid, and I thought it sucked ass big time. :-\

  • @TheSnowballEarth Uhh dude. Star Wars came out in 1977.

  • @Bladestar7 Uhh yeah, I remember because I saw Star Wars in the theaters in 1977. At the time George Lucas hadn't slipped it to the public that he was envisioning an entire film series. So think about it- ONE SINGLE FILM DOES NOT A SAGA MAKE. What was the point to your comment?

  • SAN KUO KAI

  • It's science-fiction, it's Japanese and it stars Sonny Chiba.

    In short, it's a keeper!

  • This movie was awesome! Real talk.

And it has Sonny Chiba. Do I need to say any more?

  • Thanks for uploading! I've been looking for this movie for years!

  • I wonder what George Lucas thought of this movie?

  • @Bizarronumber4 Probably thought it was a load of dung 'cause it looks it lol.

  • looks like a entertaining star wars rip off

  • この映画は素晴らしいですね!エピック!

  • What I think most people tend to forget is that, although this maybe a "Star Wars" riipoff, "Star Wars" itself has ripped off many other films.

  • @mccarthystuart

There's a difference between "ripping off" and "inspired by".

  • How did I miss out on this?!!! This is awesome!!!

  • Flaws like this is what this film so endearing and so damn enjoyable.

  • A friend and I saw this when it first came out. It was so horrible. We made a game of counting the Star Wars ripoffs.

  • @Orlor The funny part is it looks like star wars turned around and ripped off parts of this movie(flying inside the planet).

  • ITS SO BAD ITS GOOD.

  • this looks so fucking cool!!!!!!! :o

  • Can't believe this is finally out on DVD!

  • @robotrix where did you get your copy?
