I've looked at a few vids of myself and others playing...almost looks like the strings are'nt actually there. They are and they hurt.Guitar is a bastard instrument. Many times has mine almost described the "arc of splinters" against the wall or out the window,in the fire,on a looters' head. Two years of pretty hard playing is when dividends appear.40 years later..not a lot of difference apart from the fact people go quiet when you play rather than the usual disinterested hubbub
This man has influenced me greatly. Thanks Adrian for your music and thanks to the uploader for sharing this with the rest of the guitar loving world!
I also like Pass the valium on technopicker more because it's only acoustic, I had the lp but the version with knobs on was the only one I could post.
It is one of the greatest un-answered questions in the universe why (if you ever read this Adrian) Technopicker has never been released on CD. Especially as 'Pass The Valium' has never been surpassed, before or since. Anyone who has heard it can not underestimate its' brilliance, virtuosity, and uniqueness, especially in a guitarists' setting.
OK, available on Cathedrals, but as it says "with knobs on"; without the gutt feel, that I miss.
Or maybe it was because Adrian found it so hard to play!
@TBnotTB To be honest, it got old, I got bored with it - you know how you just get completely sick of things sometimes? It's another old joke that isn't funny any more and I wanted to try to write things that were more musical. Unfortunately here's a limit to how much I can keep in repertoire and still grow.
@LeggHeadVideos Still genius though! :) (preferably without knobs on!)
I have often thought (as a frustrated musician), what it might be like to be a professional musician, and to have to play everyday, the same old tunes...
I think it would indeed get kinda boring; no matter how good they are.. or the particular arrangement...
I remember the first time I heard him was in about 1983-4, I walked into Folkways Music store in Paddington and they just put on the first side of Technopicker. I stood there in shock for the first song...thinking what the hell is this...I'd never heard anything like it. I was learning guitar at the time, and was shattered ...
@vuduegg that was 26 years ago by my calculation. Still in awe? Still inadequate? I bloody am after nearly 40 years of playing. Ok maybe not put as many hours in practise-wise as I could have...but sometimes you have to admit defeat and understand that talent like this is a rarity. Doesn't mean pack up and start fishing though...fishing is good...I should start fishing again. I'll take my guitar to the river and fish. I bet you're pretty good actually. Just keep on keeping on. Happy Christmas
@Rikk303 There's only so much a person can do in a day or a life, and if there isn't the time to do the nerdy over and over again the same damn thing part - which we all actually know is the bulk of it - then we can only have the bit we can give the time. Frankly, I'm very grateful the RAC man doesn't spend hours practising the guitar, or the man who comes to fix the gas boiler. Writing though, I don't know how that happens. Randomly wire up enough neurons, perhaps?
@LeggHeadVideos Not nerdy at all. Any guitarist worth half his salt can appreciate a "certain something". That only comes from a lot of playing. Whether it's an OCD thing, I've no idea. When my boiler is up the creek, I'd rather have a proper plumber sort it out than some sandal-wearing hippy wielding a guitar. On the other hand (apart from fingers), a sandal-wearing hippy guitar wielder is more welcome at parties. Tokes for folks basically....a plumber that plays sublime acoustic and has Danny

Thompson as a rhythm section as well as a syrupy voice and timing unheard of since young Sinatra would always be welcome here....dead or alive

This day I've posted pass the valium.
Hope you enjoy it!
Adrian is one of the best there is.

Yes, "Pass the valium" cannot be beaten, just wish someone could find it being played live and post it on here. 10/10

Has Technopicker ever been released on CD? I have it on LP
when it came out in '83 and love it. The tune "Pass the Valium" is a favorite of mine.
