Always a pleasure to hear other talented musicians play Dead music. Makes one appreciate both bands much more. Hard to understand why more bands have not chosen to play Dead songs. Maybe it is to daunting, But there is always room for new interpretations.
I think it is crazy to say no other band comes close to the GD. I've logged thousands of hours of GD time from the worst mic recordings to the best soundboards and I think I can honestly say that the one and only thing I never like about the GD was the prejudgments of the DH's. Yes, they were a jewel, but so was the John Coltrane Quartet and you don't hear people whining about them being broken up. Anyway, I don't think Jerry ever wanted people to worship them like people did. Ask Bob W...

@gwarejko The difference between Coltrane and GD comes down to the way in which lifestyles were affected. For lack of a better term, the "scene" that sprung up from the Dead was part of what brought on the worshipping. I can to some extent understand it, but since I was 10 when Jerry died I'm just projecting what my own musical experiences led me to. Phish was a life changing band for me in the sense that GD was for many people, but they aren't the best music I listen to by any stretch.
LOL this is definitely NOT a picture of the Greek Theater.
Cool of DMB to play Eye I guess, but quite frankly, mostly this just causes me to remember how stellar The Grateful Dead & Jerry were--no other band even comes close . . .
oh man, boyd just sounds phenomenal on this one. can't believe i hadnt taken the time to listen to this conver until now, but job well done boys and RIP Jerry.
This is excellent. i have an old audio recording of this and was hoping to find this here so i can share w others. Thanks so much. BTW, this is one of the most amazing cover performances ever. It was their first & only time and they nailed it so well. It's so rich w/ emotion.
@monrizo123 Same thing. (Never heard of Sasquatch but that's the name of a festival at the Gorge). Sucks they added a tarp over it.......went there last year and was disappointed not being able to see through it. From a google search: The Gorge Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue near the Columbia River located in George, Washington. It is a nine time winner of Pollstar Magazine‘s award for Best Outdoor Music Venue, and where the annual Sasquatch Music Festival is held.
@JayBTV Thanks for sharing that. I live in NY and I've only been able to travel to VA, MA, CT & NY for 8 concerts. Its my dream to take a Winnie and travel along their tour, the Gorge would be my #1 place I had to go. To be sitting on a mountain side looking down and out at such massive openness while DMB lifts you up to float on the stars, it doesn't get much better than that. And then of course they top that expectation. Amaaaaazing! Thanks
