@topspeedproductions - YEs I have twin velineon 3500 BL systems in my Summit now. And no they are NOT better for crawling. They are unsensored so the cog at low speeds. But I do a lot more bashing than crawling with my Summit, so I like them. For serious crawling you would want a sensored bl system, or brushed. The twin 700s work great and don't cog at all. :)
I am just getting into these RC bashing trucks. I just picked up a 1/10 scale Traxxas Summit and did not realize that it does not come with a charger like the T-Slash. u can for the motors buy some little esc fans and mount them on there not to sure what the call em but the r really small fans like bathroom fans and for the motors u can buy some heat sinks and cut some holes in the body hopefully this helps
I have an erevo and I was thinking of raising it to the hight of a summit. Do you think it would be better to just buy a summit and install a monster mamba 2600kv combo? I know it would cost a lot more if I went that route. I thought about this because both frames are the same (or at least that's what I've noticed) so it would be cool to be able to go on rougher terrain with the erevo like I would the summit, side from the crawling abilities of the summit of course. Any info would be great.

Why not just buy the dual 700 HO motor upgrade from Kershaw designs? It will be way cheaper than making your own plate, and the 700's are completely waterproof and much stronger than the 775s. Didn't you watch the video??? You DON'T want the twin 970 kit. They overheat the ESC and draw too much power. Get the 700 HO kit instead. Much better. Same speed, doesn't overheat and less power. Kershaw Designs took the 970 kits off the market because they aren't a good fit for r/c.

IvE just got a stampede vxl 4 christmas and my mate got an e maxx, weve been racing in the snow and on the grass, the e maxx always kick s ass! In the summer when its dry will the stampede vxl kiss ass?
The stampede does fine and is lots of fun as long as you are on short grass or dirt or pavement. It only get's hung up in tall weeds and deep snow/dirt/whatever. It's a fun truck!

Not stock. There may be an aftermarket center dif that will fit. I know the E-REVO has an aftermarket center diff available and it may fit the Summit, but I haven't tried it.
dude, come one.... get rid of the banana plug adapters!!! those are for sure causing an issue with amp draw! Solder the leads from esc straight to the motors!! Ive metled those guys on my moms stock emaxx!
If you can afford it, try running two EVX's and/or gearing lower(smaller pinions) I want this setup for my E-maxx, and I'll more than likely go that route. As for the tires, the large tread blocks act like jello, which also plays a part in your truck bouncing around like that. Nice vid, keep those 775's handy, they're great motors!
Novak makes motors that are specifically for rock crawling that are much more appropriate and will work better for that kind of driving than the HV 5.5. Take a look at their website. They have dozens of different motors for all kinds of driving.

lol. I have been building, configuring, and repairing computers for 25 years. It's what I do for a job, but we don't have enough room to talk about it here.
The E-MAXX has the same ESC as the Summit. The Traxxas EVX-2. So the heating problems would be the same. The ESC is what was getting overheated because of too much power going thru it.
Most brushed motors can run in water. However, the stock motors have soft brushes and they can easily be damaged by heavy electrical current when underwater. low power, they are ok, but i if you go full power it will burn the brushes out within minutes. The KD motors do not have this problem and when properly broken in can run underwater with no issues.
This can work, but be careful about putting holes in the tires. Quite often this will give them a point to start a rip at high speed... May be ok with stock Summit motors since they don't go very fast, but with the big aftermarket motors it could easily rip the tires right off the rims. lol.
Hey Jetlag, question. You mentioned thermal shutdown in the description. I have that issue on my Emaxx with the 700 conversion. Would putting a little computer fan on the speed control help enough with that you think? The heat sink on the ESC is tiny!
Yes you can buy small fans that will fit on any ESC and plug into an open slot in the rx for power. This is usually a good idea if you are having overheating problems, however I was trying to see if these motors would work with the "stock" rx setup. It ran a little warm.
i bet the summit tyres would work just fine. if you cut small holes every inch or so between the treads youll find that the water will spray out and balance the tyres. i did the same thing, it works. really.
Its great to see vids like this for us newbies. My Summit is still stock, mostly cause I don't know what to put in it. I mostly rockcrawl with my Summit but some extra speed and power would be nice

The E-MAXX has the same ESC as the Summit. The Traxxas EVX-2. So the heating problems would be the same. The ESC is what was getting overheated because of too much power going thru it.

most brushed motors are.. well all are, but some aren't that great for water...
brushless are not.. but there are some new ones coming out that are brushless..

Most brushed motors can run in water. However, the stock motors have soft brushes and they can easily be damaged by heavy electrical current when underwater. low power, they are ok, but i if you go full power it will burn the brushes out within minutes. The KD motors do not have this problem and when properly broken in can run underwater with no issues.

This can work, but be careful about putting holes in the tires. Quite often this will give them a point to start a rip at high speed... May be ok with stock Summit motors since they don't go very fast, but with the big aftermarket motors it could easily rip the tires right off the rims. lol.

Hey Jetlag, question. You mentioned thermal shutdown in the description. I have that issue on my Emaxx with the 700 conversion. Would putting a little computer fan on the speed control help enough with that you think? The heat sink on the ESC is tiny!

Yes you can buy small fans that will fit on any ESC and plug into an open slot in the rx for power. This is usually a good idea if you are having overheating problems, however I was trying to see if these motors would work with the "stock" rx setup. It ran a little warm.

i bet the summit tyres would work just fine. if you cut small holes every inch or so between the treads youll find that the water will spray out and balance the tyres. i did the same thing, it works. really.

when a motor is new, brushes give off carbon dust. the dust floats on water, keeps the motor clean

in addition the water helps seat the brushes and harden them so that they will run smoother and last longer.

Its great to see vids like this for us newbies. My Summit is still stock, mostly cause I don't know what to put in it. I mostly rockcrawl with my Summit but some extra speed and power would be nice
