I was born and raised in Swansea. I left in 1986 (aged 21) and moved to London.
The people of Sansea are generally well meaning, humerous and kind. Their biggest problem seems to be their inclination to blame others for their own problems. The Labour Party (which has had near total control in Wales for generations) does nothing for these people - but tell them that its nothing to do with them.
The answer for many of their problems would be some personal responsibility and some self discipline
To all those saying things like 'don't blame society, its their choice that they do heroin'.. you don't have a clue about the circumstances these ppl were in or the childhoods these people had, they were raised by a society driven by drug addiction, theft etc.
Also people are saying 'they are to lazy to work, there are jobs in swansea'. Dont generalize all of heroin addicts as lazy, some have jobs and have a good work ethic, but become reliant on the drug and are forced to leave their jobs.
By far my favourite film/documentary , i love it i think these people are all decent good people (the ones that were interviewed , except for cornellieus's da sean!) I wish em the best of luck and hope a swansea love story 2 comes out. My love is with you all. P.M.A
This shit is reality!! aint no gameshow or made for TV shit, this is whats happening in just about every major city and town in the UK!! People need to wake the fuck up!
@MrMegaWolfeman I'm pretty sure getting fed heroin and 'whored" out by your mother at 13 and raped and beaten by a 31yr old and his mates is a little bit harder to overcome than you think. It's great that you've risen above your problems but don't judge so harshly. These kids are damaged and due to attitudes like yours in "society" and "the system" they and so many others will remain that way. Show some compassion as I'm sure you've been shown to help get where you are now
Wow that was intense. I lived in Porthcawl for 1 year when I was 10, grew up in North America otherwise. I remember seeing needles and stuff in the sand dunes behind my house.
fuck these people man, they have a hard go and make a sob story out of it. I was hit as a kid, went through a divorce, my dad tried to kill my mom, i had to see him be arrested in front of me, he was an alcoholic etc etc. But i go to university, i work 2 jobs, i invest my money, and i choose good friends, and dont abuse drink or drugs. So why cant these people..
@MrMegaWolfeman We must not forget that the drug they are taking is highly addictive and it only takes one hit of it and then you are hooked!! i live not far from swansea and one of my mates was in school with 2 of the people in this video and he said they were average normal students. I see this happen to people were i live some friends some not but it is not nice to see, THEY DON'T ABUSE THE DRUG IT ABUSES THEM!!!
I can't believe people are wishing death uppon a BABY!! and not hoping for the best for these people who are stuck in a super hard to control lifestyle. You are sick heartless and twisted. They obviously only kno the commercial data about the drug! The drug is the scum and once its been taken your under its control. So try and help not abuse these people!!
Get a heart, you heard her story didn't you. She's had an extremely tough life, I bet yours has been a piece of piss in comparison. She's done well to cope as well as she has in all honesty.
"When was I clean for six months? No, it was three months, they, ah, gave me the wrong keychain". That pretty much says it all right there. Once a junkie, forever a junkie...
a huge amount of drug taking, whether it is achohol, tobacco, heroin or otherwise is for the purpose of attemptng to FEEL better.. but they do not work.. just create and reinforce a cycle of dependency (not always but generally) - we can heal ourselves through being willing to feel and express all feelings - society has been conditioned since earth story began not to do this- hence the illnesses.

@ApolloLang1 soldiers who have lost limbs have jobs, they lost their limbs doing it. these people try to find work for months but becuase the industry isnt in swansea anymore theres no direction for the youth. heroin and crack addictions are symptoms of a problem with society not the fault purely of the user.
yeah, really enjoyed that,..thought the people in it showed the life real well, there stories and life's so much sums up the day to day shitty life of a user..
I live in Swansea, and this only shows a part of it. Its a good documentary and it shows what it wanted to show, but its only the same few streets these people are hanging about in, They are the well known smack-heads you see about town. @Trundle79 It was a very good documentry, i was intrigued to see how the average person in swansea lives and what they do with their time apart from hating Cardiff. Dirty filthy people, Swansea makes the Valleys look like monaco
These people never stood a chance. The situations that they're born into are inescapable because they don't know any other way to live. It's easy to judge them from the comfort of your home, but if you are born into the poverty trap in the UK, it's virtually impossible to claw your way out.

this is sad as fuck and please every 1 dont think all us jacks are like this i actualy know lee from this and knew him b4 he had whatever habit hes had and hes a sound guy so is his younger bro realy sad glad to see ur coming out other side lee hope u keep it up
Crazy documentary, unfortunately its not a surprise at all. Its the same all over south wales, Cardiff, Barry, Bridgend, Maesteg, Newport and just about everywhere else.
i think this is a real eye opener into swansea. but all these cruel comments about them having "choices" wtf did the girl get a choice when she was being fucked by her mother u were probs from down the mayals where your plates are made of gold. if ur head wernt so far up ur own ass then mayb these people mite get a choice but within the swansea there is a lot of prejudice and people are scared of the unknown so if ur not willing to help any1 or havin sumfin nice to say then dont say nufin at al
yea best of luck to them i just watched all of the parts and i always knew how bad swansea is with drugs but seing that is going to make me more aware of heroin and all drugs all together !!! xx
One of the hardest parts of coming off heroin is finding a life after heroin. It can be lonely and boring and you have no reason to get up in the morning.
The big heroin problem in wales started with Thatcher and continued under Labour. ALL the big parties are Shit and have made the rich richer.
We need loads of Jobs and Homes and a reason to live. Stop giving money to the banks and the rich. Get rid of the super rich parasites.
@tellyontellyon Educate yourself in politics. There are jobs in Swansea, smack heads just can't be bothered to work. Don't just take the blame Thatcher path like all small minded people do.
Youth unemployment in wales is 21% and set to grow.
40% of the people in swansea work in the public sector, but the public sector is in for massive cuts.
I don't deny that drug users have responsibility for themselves; however, the better we can make the environment for all citizens; the more we can have decent jobs and housing for all; the more we can give people a chance, then the easier it will be to get people off drugs.
I don't just blame Thatcher... I blame Labour too.
@tellyontellyon In all fairness the massive cuts are a requirement or our debt will always be there, but I do understand what you're getting at. I just presumed you were some left wing Blair nut who hates tories.
The government wants to save 80 to 90 bn pounds a year to cover the structural defecit.
This was an international financial mess caused by super rich casino bankers who lost worldwide $50 TRILION. We are being cut in order to prop up THEIR system, for THEM to go on getting rich.
We can raise this money in other ways: e.g. £123 Bn/year in uncollected, avoided and evaded taxes from the rich; over £100 Bn for Trident, bonuses! etc. etc.
But then again... why pay at all. The banks should be taken into full public ownership and run democraticall for all rather than the profit of these individuals.
In the UK the 1000 richest people got 18% richer last year... and 30% richer the year before that! (source THE TIMES)
These cuts are not necessary at all. The idea that the world must be held to ransom by literally a handful of super rich speculators and bond-holders cannot be sustained.
In debt to who... the same bankers and speculators that caused the crisis!
I don't support the Labour Party. I am a Marxist. I would do away with capitalism alltogether.
I wouldn't pay the debt. I would take over the banks and big businesses and use our resources and equpment to meet the needs of ordinary people without worrying if some rich thief makes a profit.
But if you HAVE to pay... make the rich pay: £123 billion in uncollected, avaided and evaded tax every year.
The people who get really rich from drugs are the corrupt politicians. Your average drug dealer in Swansea could hardly be compared with super-rich capitalists who have BILLIONS.
The 1000 richest people in Britain got 18% richer last year, and about 32% richer the year before that.
When I talk about the Super-rich, I'm talking about people like some of the bankers who get a weekly pay packet of a million quid... before bonuses!
@tellyontellyon How about you stop blaming YOUR problems on everyone else? Did these "super rich" elitist force you to stick heroin in your veins? Last time I checked, using heroin is a PERSONAL choice.
What a shocker...a weak drug addict blaming his problems on everyone else and begging for communism LOL
I've never used drugs. But I am a psychotherapist who has worked with addicts. You really need to learn a bit more about drugs before making silly comments. Learning a bit about genuine Marxism would make you look less silly too.
It's not that bad in comparison with the rest of the UK, just the highest growth rate over the last few years. It's not the best student experience in the UK for nothing either.
I was shocked watching this and I live in Swansea. Not all of Swansea is like this, the Gower seems like a different country in comparison. I wonder if Catherine Zeta Jones has seen this, she has a house about 15 minutes away from this in Mumbles.
everyone is given a choice, i feel bad for amy having to go through what she has been through, but she has a choice to change her life and not go down the same road as her mum, there's lots of hospitals, doctors, rehabs, etc that could help her. these people dont have to live like that, they can't cant blame family and friends because just like me and you ......... they have a CHOICE!!
Thay are sick, you think thay wont that life, thay need help not like this, its no help what your doing, i hope you poeple who are negative your kids never have to go throooooooo this, I DID . nobody whant to live like this think again. i made it .
dont know where your sympathies lie but i recognise one of "the cast" as someone who stole from my families business. while it is very sad that they have to live like that these people simply aint angels. i feel sorry for them having a terrible addiction but not with them for stealing to fund it. im sorry but i cant help feeling they should be locked up or better exported to afghanistan where the drug comes from in the 1st place. leave them deal with em.
I agree, this is an interesting story of misery. I feel sorry for the suffering Amy has suffered at the hands of her abusers and at the the hands of her boyfriend and his father. People seem to forget it was their choice to take heroin and it is their choice to inflict pain and suffering on victims of crime when they break in to peoples homes and steal their possessions which they have worked so hard for and they think they have a right to do this, just to fund their stinking habit.
Thank you for portraying our beautiful city like this, thank you for filming disgusting alleways, thank you for filming the shoddy council estates. Cheers. And did you really fulfill what this film was intended for? I dont think so...
check out the dude singing at 6.45, his over-annunciation is amusing.
i'm glad a lot of you are standing up for swansea and know the beauty of the real city. this goes on in every single city, difference is that in swansea you find some really fantastic characters that make it documentary-worthy!
i lost my brother though drugs 6 years ago .he was only 20 wen he died ,wat a waste off a good life ,iv never done a drug in my life but i tell u sumtin, the drug users r victums, its the fuckn dealers who r the scum
A very true account of the underlying issues people are facing in todays soceity.
Regardless of why these people end up in this mess, one thing is for sure they need help and support.
Hopefully one day they will be in a position to accept and use the support to its full advantage and turn their lives around, and good on them for allowing themselves to be filmed to give an insight into this shit exsistance.
Lets face it, its going on around us and it is'nt going to go away!
I can see in the line of comments going on here... Just insult after insult. Shit like that starts small, gets worse, people get depressed and bang sets off a trail which leads to what you're watching!! Grow up!!
@FeathersT21 How about these low lifes take responsibility and "Grow up"? I hate the soft and compassionate attitude people have towards these people. Take fucking responsibility for yourself.
This kind of shit goes on in nearly every major city, this one just happens to be about Swansea. Heroin is fuckin' nasty shit and I feel real sympathy for these guys.
Totally biased documentary with the sole aim of portraying the city in a bad light. Read up more on the city and find out for yourselves that it's not just a hole full of junkies. The Times gave the city the title of best student experience in the UK. We're surrounded by countryside and the Gower. Heroin use is rife everywhere, not just the UK but across the Western world.
@mchurdler Tell me some thing new new will you. sheep shager hahaha. you hate the welsh because your upset. your upset because you mam ran off with a real man. A WELSHMAN. cant blame her to be honest. so would i if i was in her shoes!!!!
lmao corse i know my dad i was born in a british army camp in germany u thick twat!! are you adopted or sumthing, or did you get abandoned when you was a baby? i can see you have problems, so i wont comment anymore. dont want to make you anymore upset than what you already are!!
OK, so a real insight into the way some people live - but what is it going to do??? It's not going to change their lives or stop others from turning to drugs/alcohol, I fear it's already too late for them to change who they've become, but foe their sakes, I hope they can.
"...no, I was clean for three months, they gave me the wrong key chain."
That last statement by Clint, sums up this entire documentary. I think every single one of those kids just got the wrong keychain in life! I feel for them all, and I hope they all make it to become clean and sober.

i think this is a real eye opener into swansea. but all these cruel comments about them having "choices" wtf did the girl get a choice when she was being fucked by her mother u were probs from down the mayals where your plates are made of gold. if ur head wernt so far up ur own ass then mayb these people mite get a choice but within the swansea there is a lot of prejudice and people are scared of the unknown so if ur not willing to help any1 or havin sumfin nice to say then dont say nufin at al

Most of this is filmed less than 5 minutes walk from my house. It's amazing how you can ignore something under your own nose if you really want to.
To maintain the status quo. Vote for the Tories on May 6th.

@twattymatty How wil the Tories sort it then? By making the massive cuts? Yeah that will work I'm sure...

I believe in real Marxist socialism.

Kingdoc1976 1 year ago
@tellyontellyon Educate yourself in politics. There are jobs in Swansea, smack heads just can't be bothered to work. Don't just take the blame Thatcher path like all small minded people do.
Denime 8 months ago
@Denime
I blame Labour too.
tellyontellyon 8 months ago
@tellyontellyon In all fairness the massive cuts are a requirement or our debt will always be there, but I do understand what you're getting at. I just presumed you were some left wing Blair nut who hates tories.
Denime 8 months ago
@Denime
In all fairness the cuts are not a requirement.
£123 Bn/year in uncollected, avoided and evaded taxes from the rich; over £100 Bn for Trident, bonuses! etc. etc.
tellyontellyon 8 months ago
@Denime
But then again... why pay at all. The banks should be taken into full public ownership and run democraticall for all rather than the profit of these individuals.
In the UK the 1000 richest people got 18% richer last year... and 30% richer the year before that! (source THE TIMES)
These cuts are not necessary at all. The idea that the world must be held to ransom by literally a handful of super rich speculators and bond-holders cannot be sustained.
tellyontellyon 8 months ago
@tellyontellyon We have to pay or we will always be in debt. With tories some rich do get richer. With labour everyone is poor.
Maybe the 1000 richest people got richer because they worked.
Denime 8 months ago
@Denime
End of!
tellyontellyon 8 months ago
@tellyontellyon One way of getting rid of rich parasites is to stop buying drugs off them.
rumpraisin 6 months ago
@rumpraisin
The people who get really rich from drugs are the corrupt politicians. Your average drug dealer in Swansea could hardly be compared with super-rich capitalists who have BILLIONS.
The 1000 richest people in Britain got 18% richer last year, and about 32% richer the year before that.
When I talk about the Super-rich, I'm talking about people like some of the bankers who get a weekly pay packet of a million quid... before bonuses!
tellyontellyon 6 months ago
@tellyontellyon How about you stop blaming YOUR problems on everyone else? Did these "super rich" elitist force you to stick heroin in your veins? Last time I checked, using heroin is a PERSONAL choice.
What a shocker...a weak drug addict blaming his problems on everyone else and begging for communism LOL
JohnGolbunny 6 months ago
@JohnGolbunny
I've never used drugs. But I am a psychotherapist who has worked with addicts. You really need to learn a bit more about drugs before making silly comments. Learning a bit about genuine Marxism would make you look less silly too.
tellyontellyon 2 months ago
@JohnGolbunny oh please.. there is too many factors to just say "its a PERSONAL choice", even though it might sound to be the sole explanation

dont know where your sympathies lie but i recognise one of "the cast" as someone who stole from my families business. while it is very sad that they have to live like that these people simply aint angels. i feel sorry for them having a terrible addiction but not with them for stealing to fund it. im sorry but i cant help feeling they should be locked up or better exported to afghanistan where the drug comes from in the 1st place. leave them deal with em.
JALICKAM101 1 year ago
I agree, this is an interesting story of misery. I feel sorry for the suffering Amy has suffered at the hands of her abusers and at the the hands of her boyfriend and his father. People seem to forget it was their choice to take heroin and it is their choice to inflict pain and suffering on victims of crime when they break in to peoples homes and steal their possessions which they have worked so hard for and they think they have a right to do this, just to fund their stinking habit.

"Totally biased documentary with the sole aim of portraying the city in a bad light."
How can you say this? I just watched the film for the first time and the fact that it was in Swansea had nothing to do with the film in general.
These accounts can be applied to most industrial/working class cities, this film just happens to be based on Swansea substance misusers.
