Ajahn Brahm's focused teachings of letting go only applicable by those who really understand the dhamma. There is always something deeper to these talks. So one should study Sutta teachings, listening dhamma talks and keep practicing the noble path. Self identity is destroyed to pieces when someone has become a Stream Enterer.I love this talk by Ajahn Brahmali..What a Genius..Sensuality or Jhanas, u can not have them both. Sensuality leads u to suffering, Jhanas leads u to Unbinding/anagami
This is all so strange sometimes. To be able to see life as it is, to be free of suffering, puts you in a different place in the cycle of rebirth... Its all very weird. Maybe the practice is just for the current life, for the quality of the current lifetime. And that is all. There are so many opinions in the different branches of buddhism.
Haha why are so many people complaining about the mic..it doesn't bother me at all. Listening to these talks is so relaxing, and such a privilege, a little mic noise is nothing at all. :)
So does this idea of knowing when to move on apply to love relationships and marriage too ( i realise it is not applicable to monks, but for those of us who are only lay). Seems a remarkably current endorsement of serial monogamy for teachings that are 2000 years old. Does Buddhism even support marriage...or is it just if your culture says so. Thats becoming a familiar answer
@georgezimmer Really. How fascinating. So by what means do the laity make the rules ? And are the rules the same for all Buddhists or different for different individuals or groups. How do they differ ?
It's different from the Western system where the Church ruled everything. Concepts like marriage are left for local villages to figure out based on their own culture, so there's a huge variety of practices. The monks only have power over their own, celibate community.
Interesting video ! I want to know if the mind can develop because of consciousness , the consciousness can develop because of mental formation , the mental formation can develop because of perception , the perception can develop because of sensation , the sensation can develop because of sens organs .
22:10 - "There is nobody in here. There is nobody controlling all this". Then how did Sansara originate? Shouldn't there be a basis for the Sansara, like the Hindu concept of Brahman in order to explain that?
These are some Great Videos. I was just thinking if in this particular talk the monk wouldn't speak so close or directly into the microphone because it then just sounds muffled.
I'm almost certain it's an oscillating fan that causes this. It can be heard on Ajahn Brahm's and other speaker's talks. Watch the candles for extra clues. Also, the suffering of heat tends to come up in many talks that feature this auditory disturbance. I understand what is being said by the speakers fine. I assume you were making a suggestion, but the speaker's vicinity to the microphone clearly isn't the issue.
I'm really sorry to say this, but I really want to listen to this Monk, but I can't get beyond his continuing uttering of "uh". I don't know why he has to do that, but it's really so annoying that I can't listen to his talks. I really want to hear his talks! I just can't get beyond his "uh"s! Please Stop saying, "uh!" after everything you say, "uh". It's so annoying, "uh."
Thank you for being so nice about my comment! You're so right, of course. I will accept it and listen now. I really appreciate your pleasant encouragement:) thanks Tuftthewhale! I really LOVE these Dhamma talks!!! -Kirk
Very good talk, thank you! :-) I'm really happy with Ajahn Brahmali's openness regarding the benefits of monastic life and seclusion. I often feel in other talks that there is too much babble about the trivial lay things, without the bigger perspective of development.
But all in all it's very true that these talks are immeasurable support for people like me; especially the deeper ones, like Ajahn Brahm's "Emptiness" and "Stop Trying To Meditate", and Ajahn Brahmali's talk on mindfulness/metta.
There is the occasion when the Elder Buddharakkhita seized a naga by the arm and pushed him inside a rock. It is said the elder was able to reach absorption in all four jhanas. The elder remained immovable in the face of praise and blame, he became stronger with every day and his understanding of buddhism became deeper. The obstacles that seemed insurmountable became insignificant. Even as a novice he found a circle of light at the end of a dark tunnel.
Much wisdom in this lecture. It's just a great source of regret that I hadn't been exposed to this wisdom three years ago when I needed this perspective in the worse way!
lol! you're never allowed any problems on this kind of comments board. maybe the person responsible for uploading the video's is also the person responsible for the recording for the sound, and maybe they will read the comments. I'm sure they're not doing it deliberately as i'm sure they're not qualified sound technicians :P
great ajahn.

Buddhists can give advice on marriage, but Buddhism does not regulate marriage. The rules are up to the laity

I enjoy Ajahn Brahmali's "uh" in his speaking, next to Ajahn Brahm I like him next. His talks are good for me in that they are applicable in my life.

Today "07-06-2009" is the greatest day of Sri Lanka. Today is the "POSON DAY" .
The day Sri lanka became a Buddhist country 2600 years ago.
Buddhism will help Sri lanka in every challenge she faces for the next 5000 years.
Thanx India and King Ashoka for helping us learn the absolute truth.

I agree kirk! Ajahn Brahmali's "Uh" can be quite a distraction from his wonderful dhamma!
However, as Ajahn Brahm would say, It is not the "Uh" that is disturbing you. You are disturbing the "Uh"!

Are the BSWA monks vajrayana, mahayana or hinayana/theravada? I am a little cofused by all the ways and the schools..
petersilk 3 years ago 2
BSWA monks are from the Theravadan (SE Asian) school of Buddhism. Mahayana is mostly East Asian (China etc) and Vajrayana school is Tibetan Buddhism.

It's only your desire that causes your suffering! You wish the mic was clear, but it isn't -- so you suffer!..
Yea, they should get better sound people that are MINDFUL about that microphone distortion. Maybe they're just testing us though.
By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try. The world is beyond the winning.
