  • So, I finally got around to seeing the new Karate Kid, and was really pleased to find out that it was the story all about how Jaden Smith's life got flipped turned upside down. You see, he was chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, shooting some b-ball outside of his school, when a couple of guys (who were up to no good) started making trouble in his neighbourhood. He got in one little fight and his mom got scared! And said "You're going to learn kung-fu from the maintenance man downstairs."

  • are you kidding me?! jaden was awesome...

  • fuck them they have no good words for anyone.....

i know they're critics but they are more like douches to me.

  • you say ralph is better than jaden you are hell a messed up crap jaden smith is super hot

  • This movie shits on the legacy, i like Jackie Chan but he's way to depresive in this film and Jaden Smith is just a smartass that you want to get beat

  • HATE Ninja Assassin, LOVED Karate Kid? Un-subbing You Whore of WB

  • they forgot the tomato meter

  • the forgot the tomato meter

  • why are the Smiths whoring out their kids? I mean, they names their kids in homage to themselves. I used to like Will Smith now I think he's a tool

  • I will never see this movie because of one thing. JUSTIN FUCKING BIEBER SINGS THE THEME!!!!!

  • Batman FOREVER is better then this piece of crap

  • This movie sucks man! It sucks! Why can't we just go home!?

  • @GaMeMakern lol MMA = MIXED martial arts. Kung fu, MMA, Karate, all of those are Martial arts.

  • Actually i had a very good image of the original due to my childhood that made me not like this remake the first time i saw it, but when i repeated the original i realized how this remake is tons time better, i mean is the same thing but better story, better fights and better scenery.

  • Rotten tomato's just lost a fan.

  • boeeeee

  • @AOP69 No problem. That's one thing I like about the movie, you can take a moral lesson from it.

  • they would get an Asian guy to help with this movie.

    RACIAL PROFILING

  • i know

  • They forgot the Tomato Meter %.

  • @NMbarrassment my guess it was 64%

  • This movie was pretty bad..

Just watched it last night, it doesnt hold a candle to the original. The whole movie was cheesy, Smith and the gook girl were annoying and the final scene didnt get you pumped up like it did in '84

  • @lxKazxl the 1984 version was crap compared to the new version. you must be someone born in the 80's or older.

  • @aferg76 Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @aferg76 Just because you were born in the 90s or a 10 year old born in 2000, you think the 1984 version is crap? Nice way to prove what a doucebag you are little boy.

  • @gothatway09 even though i have nothing to do with your discussion with aferg76, i must personally say that you are being a bit unfair and biased. It doesnt matter when you were born to think a movie as bad or good. yes, nostalgia will affect about 50% of how you feel about a movie. unless you analyze it carefully, then you can point out the flaws and messages. To be honest, the 80s karate kid movie isnt that special either. to be fair, the new and old are okay movies.

  • @lxKazxl did you watch the american version? well, theres a different version. i saw the german and the american. the german is much more brutal. maybe you should take a look at the german version!

  • @lxKazxl I'm with you on that. Luckily, I didn't even pay to see that pile of vomit when it released to theaters. I didn't like the acting going on and jackie chan's character was all grumpy. No thanks Jaden Smith, I'm more for the original which was way better. Hollywood is running out of ideas now w/all these crappy remakes of movies from long ago. They're not original anymore.

  • Well unlike the other karate kids this one had real moves that were done right

  • Ironic how the asian guy liked this movie

  • @Canadionfool2 Ironic how every Jackie Chan and Karate Kid fan loved this movie.

  • it rated wtf. ya you've said it.

  • the son has to fight for the right to nail some asian ass, that is what this movie is about, well why nobody say that, i wonder if the critics would think that this movie is cute if was about a black boy who is going to live in alabama and fall in love with the white blonde princess of the town, yes this is what this movie is about, its about racism.

  • i liked this movie. i pearly remember the first that was also good but i won't watch the first again. not because it's bad or anything but i liked this one more that i am willing to watch it again.

  • If you want to see the Kate Kid my advice is to go see the 80's original. Better fighting, better story, kick ass soundtrack.

    Second is for losers!!!!

  • @venuecam Better fighting? Hell No. Better Story? No. Better Soundtrack? OK you got me there. The Fight scenes in the remake is far superior, the story more developed. But the soundtrack sucks by default for having a justin bieber song play during the end credits. Now dont get me wrong, like you, i hate the remake. Its just, the Original wasn't a good film either. Now my advice, go pick up the of Legend of Drunken Master, Ip Man, Or Any Bruce Lee Flick instead of both "karate kid" movies.

  • I watched The Karate Kid Review: Rotten Tomatoes Show a lot of times at this great site: qu*ickfreemo*vieDOTcom (Del. the * * ). I have watched every inch of it. And? The Karate Kid Review: Rotten Tomatoes Show is now my ALL TIME FAVOURITE movie. You to should see The Karate Kid Review: Rotten Tomatoes Show at this great site: qu*ickfreemo*vieDOTcom (Del. the * * )

  • "A" Movie with "B" movie actors..

  • This review is crap. Jackie Chan is the shiz...all that needs to be said.

  • I would be never too close-minded to say: this movie sucks. But the fact that they named it the karate kid just ticks me off (because I've been doing karate for ten years now) and just the fact that 'kung fu kid' wouldn't sell or something is just ridiculous. If the movie is truly that good, give it a name that actually FITS.

And the plot... well it's hard to believe in Dre's 'romance' thing with that girl since his hormones aren't even activated yet.. >_>

  • @STPtje fuck off you suck!

  • @Justinian43 dude, seriously, what is your comment 'adding'? I'm not saying that they're bad actors or that the movie sucks, it's just that in China and Japan they did name it 'kung fu kid' or something along those lines, but the rest of the world is too stupid to see the difference between karate and something else? It just gives people the wrong idea.

What are you? 10 years old? I just state that the name of the movie ticks me off slightly, and you're shouting? That's pretty pathetic.

  • i HATE Ellen!

  • This is not a remake; it is a new adaptation of the original DC comic book.

  • toe-ma-toe!

  • This movie was tottaly awsome! I cried like, three times!!!

*bytheway* dont wanna get on anyones bad side, but why is jackie chan in karate/kung fu movies?

  • @TDIdialgagirl I guess he's getting a little older these days (doesn't mean he doesn't kick ass anymore xD) and he's taking on different parts that sometimes match his age a little more? He's a very good kung fu artist so why not? ^^" (does take away the 'KARATE' part in the 'Karate kid' movie XD)

  • <3 jaden smith is so cute! he looks like his daddy in bad situations xD

  • I thought I was the only person in my class who did not find the movie interesting

I really agree with your review :)

  • this is a dumb review, what are they saying he's "not as vulnerable?" HE'S ELEVEN YEARS OLD FOR CRAP SAKE.

people like this get so attached to the original, which i am too, but then they get so closed minded. they just can't except the fact that this movie isn't supposed to have that "same fun fire" or whatever. The people making it didn't want to make the same old thing. they wanted to make something different. and how many of these "movie critics" are film directors?

  • I took my nephew to this movie about a month ago and we both loved it. Both Chan and Smith were really good in it and it had my nephew kicking and punching as we left the theater. Great movie... Check it out if you haven't all ready.

  • lol in this"review" they talk about how the original karate kid movie is good but in another "review" they make fun of the original karate kid movies and consider it one of the top 5 worst movies. These ppl have no idea what they are talking about. Check out the review with eclipse and the last airbender. They contradict themselves.

  • He really learned in 3 mounts n all the ppl are doin is hating on him gosh he's a kid leave him alone gosh I bet u ppl can't even learn that stuff in 5 years!!!

  • He's soo good & he's only 12 .. Ö

  • NEW KARATE KID IS THE BEST ..FUK WAT YALL SAYIN.. HATERS GOTTA LOVE UM

  • @TheBlackzaza What amazes me, is that this kid learned within 1 month(!!!!) how to kick other people's ass, while the other kids have been doing that stuff for their entire life now.

  • @GaolisVideoLog

yeah, Zhenwi Wang has been doing kung fu for 7 years

  • @GaolisVideoLog Remember it's still a movie ;) I don't know what young Jaden would do if he gets into REAL trouble xD

  • @STPtje He would get Will and his Scientology school to fight his battles

  • @GaolisVideoLog Actually it was 3 months.

  • @TheGameHeaven 哈哈哈!! 太感谢你!! HAHA!! Thanks, mate. Well, if it's three months then he has enough time to catch up on their life-long fighting experience, of course.

  • @GaolisVideoLog whatever amount of time, learning curves get flat the longer you learn. and as jaden's teacher says, there are no bad students, only bad teachers (i think i've heard that somewhere before =P)

  • @GaolisVideoLog thats whats happen when you got teacher Jackie chan

  • @GaolisVideoLog well he is black so that helps...

  • @GaolisVideoLog Im sorry, were movies supposed to be real life? Do you know magic as a matter of fact is NOT real? Good movies entertain even if they are preposterous.

  • @jodahs I didn't say I didn't like the movie. American movies always have this American guy who after a rather short amount of time owns everybody else. Not that this is not entertaining or all. I was just saying. No need to get mad or so.

  • @GaolisVideoLog the difference is that this kid was trained by Jackie Chan (!!!!)

  • @GaolisVideoLog well, in an interview at Lopez Tonight he said 3 months...

  • @TheBlackzaza

THE ORIGINAL KARATE KID IS THE BEST..FUK WAT YALL SAYING, HATERS GOTTA LOVE UM

  • i think that jaden just cant act for shit and i think will shud just shud just stop buying his son into movies

  • yall bitches is gay. this movie was the bomb

  • By my view, the best Movie of 2010 - ** moviescreenplay . info ** - Watch it now

  • well there is a kid....thou...there's no karate.agreed, movie title fail,karate-Japan Kung fu-China.In the end, it was an inspiring movie.8/10

  • Comment removed

  • captivating the inocence like the original did? well is not the 80's anymore.the movie would just fail if they did it like that.

  • what was the name of the original film?

  • @Fabo730 . The Karate Kid

  • @Dancrof80s haha that was a really stupid question! lol XD

  • @Fabo730 lol

  • maybe I am the only one, but I think the remake is better than the original.

  • @WenzelCORP

    Me too. :)

  • @WenzelCORP

well, more than half of the world population are borderline retarded and soulless, so yes, I can understand why some people prefer the bad xerox copy of the original

  • Theese ppl suck cause the movie was hot, it was just awesome

  • "They didn't call it the Kung-Fu kid because money and now!"....wtf does that mean. L2 english faggot movie reviewer

  • "Your focus...needs more focus"

    Compelling? No. Failure. Yes.

Great review. An obvious cash in. Shame on you Hollywood.

  • I wonder if film critics would be excellent in making movies. it is easier said than done.

  • @cayi agreed

  • I hate movie critics so much; I wonder if they enjoy any movie.

  • @WTF522 I'm a film critic for a local news paper, an I enjoyed The last airbender,....................just kidding.

  • @WTF522 True that I wonder if that Ellen Fox bitch likes anything

  • i thought this was better than the original, this is more accurate portrayal of martial arts, pat mortia doesn't even know martial arts. the old was is ok, but i think some people can't get past there blind nostalgia

  • @cytonius1

KUNG FU, yes, that looked really good!

Karate kid? never seen it in this one ^^" The only reason I like the original better is because the main character is a bit older (which makes the whole romance thing a little more realistic) and they use actual karate. The acting was good though^^

  • i wonder who would win in a fight Ralph Machio (sorry if i mispelled it) or jaden smith

  • @mutarrr raplh is 10 years older than jaden jaden would get his ass kicked

  • @kenlj5 so your saying jaden smith is 38 years old?

  • @mutarrr haha..ralph machio would kick the shit out of him..

  • Are they making a sequel?

  • @patrickbateman00 i hope so

  • remember. ITS A MOVIE, wow dumbasses

  • Its Jackie Chan, in China teaching will smiths kid kung fu, and they call this Karate?

  • @qauthux its not like they don't address it in the movie.

  • The white kid that befriends jaden smith at the begining of the movie just disappeared throughout the movie? Jackie Chan took forever to kick some mid school ass. Child abuse? The ending was gay when a wire stunt made an impossible kick possible. The villain never makes a move on the girl they are supposedly competing over? And I am pissed that the evil kung fu teacher never fights jackie chan.

  • I'm thinking really, really hard here...why would I care what Bret and Ellen think of this movie?

  • P.S. When the heck did Jackie Chan teach Fresh Prince's son how to do all of those incredible moves we saw him use in the end of the film???? AND are we really supposed to believe this kid learned all the Kung-Fu he needed to know in 2 weeks. He was facing kids that have been trained extensively since they were in diapers!! Just had to get this off my chest. O.K. I'm finished now.....

  • So my kids asked me what I thought of it. I just smiled and said it was so cool! LOL I'll be darned if I was going to rain on their parade. I love being a dad...Good times

  • They missed the whole point of this scene!! It was a way to get Daniel in shape AND learn how to defend attacks.....I left the theater with the exact reaction I thought I was going to have. I was utterly disappointed....So I asked my kids what they thought of it. They got all excited and recounted the entire film scene by scene the entire trip home. My 13 year old son really enjoyed the action sequences. I just smiled and thought to myself, this was me leaving the theater back in 84. cont

  • I really believe the only reason this kid got this role is because he is the Fresh Prince's son. There were scenes where I could have swore I was watching an episode of the Fresh Prince of Belair. The Chinese Landscapes were nice but I felt like I was watching a commercial trying to sell vacations in China. The title issue: It's called the Karate Kid. It should be called the KungFu Kid. THERE WAS NO WAX ON WAX OFF!!!! Instead we get throw your jacket on the ground. cont..

  • First off, Jackie Chan is no Mr. Miagi!!! My favorite character from the original was Mr. Miagi. Jackie Chan's character lacked everthing that made the Mr. Miagi character so special. Second, where were the teenagers in this film. These were pre-teens bickering amongst themselves. I just didn't buy that kids of this age were having these issues. It's much more believable when they around 16 years old, as they were in the original!! Third, The fresh Prince's son just can't act. cont...

  • @concretespecial k get some actors and go get mr. miagi from his grave and make your own movie damn critic

  • @youchoobalot Good Idea, wanna help me make it??

  • @concretespecial nah im good

  • O.K. let's make this very clear: If you are 12-20 you're probably going to love this movie. If you remember going to see the original Karate Kid in the theaters with your friends you're probably not going to like this installment. I wasn't expecting to like this movie at all going into it. I saw th trailer and I just shook my head and said, "why." My kids talked me into taking them to the movies to see this movie. They said it looked cool. cont. in next post

  • @concretespecial *COUGH COUGH IS TWENTY* I hated it. Karate Kid without karate. Horrible. And no there will never be second Mr. Miyagi. And that's okay, I just wished they would've made this new Karate Kid a little different instead of pretty much copying the old plot but then take pre-teens instead. Yes. It's Smith's son who is the PRODUCER OF THE MOVIE XD Obvious. Cranes and cable work well for your kicks ;-) it's still the movies. Every 16-year old and older can see the romance is TOO FAKE XD

  • The original is a timeless clasic and can´t be beaten.

But I must say I really liked this remake!!

The crane kick adaptation was actually pretty well thought of and looked cool. Even though I doubt an actuall 12 year old would have done that. But hey, it´s the movies!!

Still, I would give this movie a solid 9.5/10

  • i freakin loved this movie!!!!! <3 it was ah-mazing! that white guy is just weird...how could you not like this movie??? dont compare it to the "classics" fag.

  • I LOVED this movie i just saw it and its one of my favorite movies

  • Better than the original by a long shot, and I loved the original.

  • The white critic is the typical "hang on to the classics" kinda guy. A completely biased opinion which only looks at demoting the greatness of the film.

  • I thought it was a better film than the first 4 Karate Kid movies. Firstly I noticed the fight scenes were much better and Jackie Chan does a great acting job (for once). I remember little Jaden from The Persuit Of Happyness, that was one of the best films i had seen in years so with that in mind i was eager to see his performance as the Karate.......sorry, Kung Fu Kid. I feel that even though hes still a young actor, hes lost some innocence with age and isnt as good on screen, but good film

  • Just came back from the theater and I have to say. I loved it. Don't look at it while comparing it to the original Karate Kid. Seriously it doesn't even matter. I remember watching the original when I was a kid even though it was a bit before my time. I loved it and I had to watch this one. Yeah sure it was kung fu, not karate. Sure jacket on vs wax on. So what?

Think of it this way. It's not literally about the martial art style. It's the story of a kid trying to fit into a new world. Simple.

  • I have a slight problem with this review, due to the fact it was actually a well done movie, yes, maybe there were way to many references to it's predecessor but i thought that's what made it good, the movie knows where it's roots comes from, it had brilliant moments in the film too, and i know i'll get flamed for this but i KINDA liked the "jacket on jacket off" thing a little more then "wax on wax off", i don't know, simply my opinion

  • WillSmith's prodigy-JadeSmith s phenomenal.. he'll better his dad's record sumday>> dnt agree wid ur reviews dr..>

I njoyd him nd movie along wid JAckie's heroic tod core.!

    Karatekid-'10rockz>>!

  • To Hell with you all who hated this Movie!!!! This is a great FULL PRICE!!!

  • You also won't be pulling this off your DVD shelf in 25 years either.

  • Your face is not able to catch the exuberant innocence fun!!! "throws fist in the air" :D

  • Even though I am asian, I dislike the asian reviewer. His words are too complicated, so it makes me confused whether or not this move is good or not. Also thsi review itself kind of sucked balls just because well...it never gave you a clear answer as to if the movie is good or not. :P

  • @TnSupreme Basically... the asian guy loved it, the white chick though it was good and enjoyed it (with the fact that it did have some cliche scenes), and the white guy hated it because he was like the other half of idiots who compare it to the original. There you go. :)

  • @st3v3n3ss haha so true

  • wow wtf kind of review is this

  • I really enjoyed this movie!! i saw all of the originals but it was actually a GOOD remake. most remakes suck but i have to say this one was pretty good. of course it's still not as good as the older ones but i think it was still great movie. good family movie.

  • i thought the stunts in this film were more brutal than the original film. honestly, i would not let any kids watch this. what would happen if they try to do a flip and land on their heads?

  • @weicc84 if i were there i wud laugh lol

  • These people know nothing about movies

  • @Serdikhan no thy do not. amazing remake thumbs up if you agree. original was better but it is still a great movie.

  • @kikstar45 Just looks at what score they gave Prince of Persia compared to Indian Jones 4, Spiderman 3 and Superman Returns. That's an insult to intelligence

  • @kikstar45 i like this one better =]

  • i give this movie +1000

  • So, the movie is very formulaic (i.e. not original), the one-liners don't sound spontaneous, the exuberance and fun is missing...but it has lots of great scenery of China! Yet these critics are telling me that's reason enough to watch this film?

  • @jademm Im also quite surprised that they gave it thumbs up.

  • @Cannibalizer13 Don't be surprised its all about political correctness. When they remade Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory I was worried they would make Charlie a black kid, that happens to be my favorite movie. When they remade Wild Wild West with Will Smith I knew it would be a bomb because of them using a black person as the star James was white and they should never have tried to change it.

  • @Chambers143 hahaha, i hate it when that happens, cause then you feel like such a jerk. but yeah the whole movie overall was flat out amazing, on every front with just about nothing left undone.

  • then i didnt like how the caucasian child in the beggining was not even used. his presence was un needed. they were barely twelve and hitting up romance?also i felt the healing cups were kinda a cheat for the ending and why doesnt the bully get disqualified when he makes his leg break. which it was an illegall hit

  • i had some problems with this film. i didnt like the fact that the bully was really amazingly difficult with all the oponents but when it came to jaden they only somewhat hit each other. then he went from extremely brutal to being grateful he got his ass whooped. i wasnt convinced by some roles.

  • Please no more remakes using black kids it gets old and lame like this moive.

  • @shelby11211, then do the world a favor and kill yourself you racist dinosaur.

  • @powerone1 shelby11211 does have a points somewhere, not in that they shouldn't use 'black' people in movies, it's more that it's like they want to make up for the fact that people were being still so racist in the time the original movies were made.

Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely NOT a racist. It's like the film industry feels guilty. They should make movies with good actors, not based on fame, heritage or that your daddy is the producer *whistle whistle* XD

  • @STPtje I agree, actors should be chosen namely based on their talent and how well they fit a role, BUT, when in Hollywood's history has that EVER happened? You almost speak as if nepotism (as well as racism and sexism) haven't been present in the Hollywood system since its very beginnings. Whites are still favored for every single role, as Hollywood's default setting is White. While blacks are getting more roles, Hollywood's still casting whites to play Asian characters. That hasn't changed.

  • it wasn't able to capture the innocent exuberant fun of the original what? Sounds like you have been rehearsing lines as well. The original movie was alright but this one just kicked straight ass! Come on Current TV, you know you loved the finishing move and the looks his mom gave were priceless. And man so much inter-rational friendship.. it touched my heart. (tear)

  • @Chambers143 HAHAHA you really should man, that would be awesome! Also youre absolutely right about the black mom thing, im a white kid from the suburbs and i know they act like that because ive seen my black friends moms act just like that! also mr, won was a much more defined, and well established character than mr miyagi was in the original, and jackie chan just drove it home. i swear this was easily his best acting performance, the car scene almost made me cry.

  • will smith couldn't have come up with a new idewa for his kid?

  • karate came from japan not china.

  • @Chambers143 i know right! that shit was brutal! my theatre was cheering for him too, it was so emotional man. it just connected with you on such a deep level, and had so much life meaning packed into it. it was one of the best movies ive seen in a long time, in fact it maybe one of my favorite movies of all time, and i would even go so far as to say that its better than the original. plus the issues it deals with and the scenarios are just so real and relatable, yknow?

  • say what? "didnt have the fire, or the vulnerability?" fuck you, you have no fucking clue about what youre talking about. honestly jaden smith did an amazing job, he did a perfect job of playing the cocky kid from detroit, in this movie. not vulnerable enough? please he was exactly what he shouldve been in every way possible. i was bullied before when i was a kid, and no movie ever captured what that was like like this movie did. five stars, easily jackies (and jadens best performance) to date.

  • This movie was REALLY good! Better than I expected. I didn't see ALL of the original, just some, but they didn't screw it up. I like that they went to China too. People are picking petty reasons why they didn't like this movie like it's "Kung-Fu" not "Karate", or "he's too young/ it's suppose to be in New York" but this was good.

  • @moonphoenix1 Excuse me? I'm small minded? I have nothing against the nation of China or the Chinese people. All I said was I think the movie would have been better if they kept the plot in America like the original movie was. If you don't like that then that's fine but there is no need to have hurt feelings over it.

  • @KayoteThunder It has to be a little bit different. An African American kid would feel more like an outcast in China, so it it still sticks to the original formula. Outcast kid gets beat up, learns Martial Arts, fights back and wins. *shrugs*

Haven't seen it yet, but now I want to.

  • Who Do You all Think Should of Played " the Karate Kid" ??????

I Vote for " Mc Lovin" From Superbad :-))))))

  • @jackfrost04 ?????????????

  • @jackfrost04 And i second that suggestion.

  • @jackfrost04 Napoleon Dynamite,that would make millions!

  • It sucks. If they wanted to remake this movie they should have waited till Jaden Smith was older and the plot should have been a single mom and her son that lived in the boring midwest relocate to New York, NOT CHINA. Also the reason for her relocating is for her job. The movie never gave a reason for the relocation to China. Then he meets the maintainence man of the apartment complex after getting beat up by teens. So he teaches him Karate! Not Kung Fu. This isn't the Kung Fu kid.

  • @KayoteThunder

job relocation. hello. it happens with people who work with international companies. fyi.

  • @KayoteThunder

Sorry you are so small minded and cannot like China. you can call me a Chink, it's okay. I'm proud to be a Chink.

  • @KayoteThunder They did give a reason why to relocate. They had know reason to stay in detroit. The company his mom works in had to be relocated and if she didnt go i think they wouldnt have anymore money and no life for dray back in detroit.
