  • great iformation, cool guy, i subbed

  • its $300 O.O

  • This might never be a concern given the filter's longevity, but how do you know when it's time to toss it?

  • @PrecisePuncher The filter comes with a u shaped metal gauge. If the gauge is able to go around the ceramic element it is time to toss it.

  • @OzzyVetteChick thank you!!!

  • all right i have a question i have heard if you have a high quality filter you can filter milk would this be bad for your filter should i try and see what happens or is this just a dumb idea

  • While I do have a Katadyne Hiker and extra filters, in my xped pack, I have opted to carry two of the Aquamira Frontier Pro filters in my EDC fanny-pack ...

... The Frontier Pros cost under $20 (US) and will do up to ~50 Gal each ... They require no cleaning or maint, as they are disposed of, once they have been used-up ... And a replacements are in the $17 (+ship) range ... They come with in-line hydration-bladder adapters and also a straw (for stoop-n-sip) + an adapter for the bottle u used.

  • CLEANING TIP i have read katadyn used to give you a brush, well when you clean your filter cartridge take an old tooth brush before using scouring pad, less cleaning needed with the scouring pad then.

i have an old tooth brush in the storage bag just fro that reason

  • Serious question everyone - How bad can the water really be for something like this to work? Could you use it for example in urine? How about raw sewage? I'm dead serious - knowing the limitation of your tools is a key survival skill. Serious answers only please...

  • @danmcglaun1 Don't think you could filter urine, and definitely wouldn't take my chances with raw sewage. Filters can't filter everything. Certain viruses are small enough to make it through this filter. I would use it on water that was tainted like during Hurricane katrina. You can also filter the water and then add iodine or chemicals to kill off everything. Never depend to much on modern tools. For every tool I carry I have 5 primitive methods to back it up. Train your brain first! Thanks

  • Well any filter that has charcoal only lasts so long and can easily be supplemented with charcoal from the fire. If chemicals are a problem then just run the filtered water through a make shift charcoal filter.

  • I have this filter which is great away from civilisation BUT it doesn't filter chemicals, heavy metals farm run-off which in the US is going to be a big problem.

  • Giardia Lamblia, beaver fever. Bad stuff. Thanks, have the same filter. What do you think about boiling the filtered water, is that too redundant? im just a paranoid person.

  • @cliffcox66 Well if you really want to be overkill then boil it. But I prefer to test my immune system from time to time by being lax about purification. This will help build up your immune system to the disease. Ancient peoples could ingest these diseases with absolutely no affect. Use these methods at your own hazard.

  • @sigma3survivalschool Thank you, I agree about the immunity building by exposure, but I get a lot of it, as i work in Emergency Services and encounter people in distress prior to diagnosis, and many times they definitely have things going on (TB, hepatitis, Meningitis, etc. ), thanks for your great vids.

  • I am a person who likes to kill all nasties so i carry a msr miox with my katadyn pocket or msr mini works ex before i got my katadyn pocket which i received today . All filter good as they are still does not remove viruses so that is why i use the msr miox or purification tabs or chlorine dioxide drops or boil, but all i read on the pocket filter it is the best especially with 13000 gallon capacity.

  • @blackbat1339

I have a question if somebody can answer it.

I'm looking to buy a katadyn water filter, and I was indecided between the pocket and the combi.

I know the combi is cheaper and already has the carbon filter, but I know it's possible to buy the carbon filter for pocket too, so, beside the price, that obviously combi is cheaper than pocket

    1) which filter between pocket and combi is really better?

    2) between combi and carbon tool for pocket, can you only use specific bottles?

  • @blackbat1339

Where is the cheapest place to buy any katadyn filter?

Amazon is expensive compared to other websites, but how trustable are other websites? If I need to spend $200-$300 I'd like to be sure the website is trustable and won't send me a broken product and then give me problems and hard time to get exchange or fix (just in case, mail order sadly is always risky)

    Thank You

  • Nice Vid.! That river looks like an open sewer! I thought the water from the Fox River was awfull up here in Kane Cty. Illinois.

  • Sawyer water filter, 1 mil gallons no moving parts, check them out.

  • I'm getting one.
