  • Fucking terrible he's gone.

  • I was fortunate enough to have seen this great musician in 2006, in a small venue in Ireland. A great loss, and as the major said, we will never see his like again.

  • anji......wd bert..........love u john martyn ...hamish imlach..davey graham

  • What is the name of his other brilliant instrumental piece? There's a tiny snippet of it at the end, around 2.47? Can't for the life of me remember the name or find it on youtube.

  • @lurak9 It's from Alice's Wonderland off Bert's first album.

  • Lovely!

  • Really enjoyed! Thank you!

  • Does anyone recognize Some Girls are Bigger Than Others in Bert's playing of Anji or is it me ? Wonder if Johnny Marr will cop to lifting it ?

  • This man has given me many many hours of enjoyment, what a loss to music

    Rest in peace Bert

  • @geoftayloruk, if you think this is shit, post your version and lets all hear it.

  • The thing that amazes me, is his calmness to the entire thing. Another thing is, he isn't on a £1000+ guitar such as a Taylor or Martin. He is just playing a £500 tips guitar. Yet he makes it sound astonishing. True Beauty. This man will be missed greatly.

    Rest In Peach Bert!

  • so grateful....

  • i loved the man.....still do......one of the best guitarists of all time no question......however this is not a good performance of this tune........he's either bored shitless of playing it or he's not on his game for another reason....he was pretty ill...... anyway i only found out he'd died reading these posts and am gutted.....RIP Bert and thanks for making me pick up a guitar. x

  • I must be missing something here...it sounds like a really shit version of the song to me.

  • Great!

  • Davy Graham

  • Cool. he's playing an old FG Yamaha

  • Bert Jansch with a guitar is like Chuck Norris with a pair of fists.

  • gOOd music it makes me need paradise

  • I know it may sound petty but the piece is called "Anji" - not Angie. Bert Jansch or whoever wrote the album cover got the name wrong.

  • @mikelheron20 Nope! Anji is the original composition by Davy Graham recorded in the album Folk, Blues & Beyond. Angie is the much improved version by Bert. He just changed the name. What's the problem there?

  • @Patafisique The problem is that he didn't write it and therefore wasn't entitled to change the name. Anyway, it's not true. He said in an interview that the record company simply made a mistake.

  • @mikelheron20 then he simply accepted the mistake, because he didn't change it in the rerelease of his first album. i think that every artist is entitled to do whatever he wants with the titles, as long as the authors are credited. besides the different titles mark the drastic differences beetween the two version: no one can say that Jansch simply covers Graham; he bring the composition to a whole new level.

  • @Patafisique I doubt you would take that view if you were the composer. I certainly wouldn't.

  • @mikelheron20 you can doubt whatever you want, but i still think the title has no significance at all (in fact it is not part of the intellectual property of a melody). if you had the bert jansch album you would know that all the credit of the song is given to graham. I would be pissed off at jimmy page when he stole the riff of Black Mountain Side from the version of blackwaterside by jansch, without declaring it.

  • @Patafisique I do have the album. In fact I have most of Bert's albums going back to Pentangle days. As you can guess, I am a fan and regret his passing very much. However, the piece was written for a real person who happens to be called Anji - not Angie. I would have thought it simple good manners and respect for the composer to spell the name as the composer originally wrote it. I wasn't even thinking about the intellectual property aspect.

  • @mikelheron20 ah ok, i didn't know that.. you do seem to take it as a personal matter ;)

personally im only thinking about the general practice of covers.

  • Beautiful. Thank you, Bert.

  • don't think i could ever get bored of that riff <3

  • Seeing him muff a few notes makes me feel better too.

  • @OldDunc I know, makes him human and makes me feel better too as a crap guitarist. :)

  • I'm so grateful I got to see him, front pew, in a church last year. He was spellbinding. I can only hope that, with his passing, more people will discover his brilliance.

  • I already miss him, he was absolutely one of my favourite guitarists ever.. Rest In Peace Bert.

  • A sad loss for all of us....

  • The gift, the music lives on - rip, dude

  • love to you forever. Fa

  • RIP :(

  • Bert Jansch-RIP. The Dazzling Stranger.

  • Music will never be the same. There are tears in my eyes while he plays. Thanks Bert, for all the good times.

  • RIP Bert XX.

    AMAZING tone on that Yamaha.

  • RIP . Such a loss to music... Bert was amazing.

  • RIP Bert. Thank you for your music. You will be missed so much.

  • RIP

  • In the world of guitar, what rating of difficulty would this song be given by experienced guitar players? I'm very interested :D Does anyone have an idea?

  • Respect ! RIP

  • such a loss

  • @Burnwash. No disrespect, eh? If I was an unfeeling cretin, like yourself, I might tell you something like , " You obviously have too much shit in your ears to hear properly."

But I like to think that I'm a civil and respectful type of person and would never stoop so low as to criticize a Great musician upon his death.

    Bravo eejit!

  • @Pagra50 I don't think @Burnwash was criticizing Jansch. He(or she) just said they just don't 'get' him, which is fine. This kind of music is great and I love Jansch, but you can see why it's not as accessible for some as it is for you.

  • @Pagra50 Ahh, yes, what more fitting tribute to a great musician could there be than an obscene, petty, irrational, abusive tirade directed at somebody whose taste differs from your own? Burnwash's manners differ from yours as well, and not to your credit.

Jansch is an acquired taste, y'know, and he's not at his best in this video. Take a deep breath.

  • @arlingtonhynes: If no disrespect was meant then why post an unfeeling comment like that?

I will not let some unqualified drivel like that pass without voicing my objection. And whether you care for that or not, it means little or nothing to me.

  • Yet another guitarist (like Allan Holdsworth) that I just don't 'get.'

What is with my ears that doesn't allow them to hear what others claim to hear? No disrepect meant.

  • So much tremendous music. Thanks Bert.

  • R.I.P.

  • RIP

  • my skill: 1

    Bert Jansch: 10000000000000000000000000000000

  • RIP :(

  • R.I.P, THE guitarists guitarist - sad day for me.......

  • Bert, you will be missed, you were such a great musician. From Japan, a country in abyss....

  • RIP Bert, great guitar player and song writer

  • You will be missed Bert, I cherish the few times we met

  • R.I.P. Bert.

  • RIP Bert. A great loss. Thanks for the music.

  • Bye Bert and so many thanks, for your Music . Stunning Wonderfull, From 2 Old Hippys.

  • RIP Bert - you legend

  • RIP Bert. A legend the likes of whom we will never see again.

  • @majordonkey500 Amen!

  • Sad to hear of his passing..

  • in hynsite i realise my comment was a bit harsh and i apolojise to bert fans its just the rendition was horrible .knowing what he is capable of .davys version of anji was very weak . but the rest of his stuff is the bis .for me no more sherrys when writing comments

  • yes..

  • Bert may have gone to seed (I disagree) but I bet he can still spell "definitely" properly.

  • the man has most definately gone to seed compared to a 60sversion by the way davys version was crap

  • For a fantastic guitarist, this was sloppy and he rushed it, like he's sick of playing it, not that I can blame him. Having said that, a rushed and "sloppy" Bert Jansch song is better than 98% of guitarists on the planet.

  • @diogeron i was about to write almost exactly what you wrote the i read your comment...

  • A joy to see and hear! Thank you for this!

  • oh how time takes its toll

  • @49mrjd ....only in appearance. Close your eyes and Mr. Jansch sounds even better. I still love Bert's take on this lovely Davy Graham original from 1961. Even Paul Simon plays it more like Bert than Davy's original.

  • Beautiful. Is that 2 guitarists? nah, its bert jansch :D

  • @sheikyerbouti1983 interesting that 2 guitars thing

I have the same feeling with Jimi Hendrix...sounds he's playing back and lead at the same time

  • the man himself and a great live performance. Thanks

  • Loove this version Thank you!

  • Thanks for positive comments
