I absolutely love Natalie's voice.. so soothing. I would have to rate her as my favorite female vocalist. This song takes me back to my first true love.. summer of 89.. we bought Blind Man's Zoo and wore it out. Just an innocent time.. jeans with torn knees, peace symbol necklaces and blue John Lennon sunglasses.. lazy summer days just lounging in a park and listening to Natalie croon with the maniacs.. it was a wonderful time in my life and every time I hear this song it takes me right back.

As a "music theorist" I'd say she achieves her special emotional impact by refusing to hold her pitch, in particular descending the last note at end of each phrase. I recall Annie Haslam doing that occasionally in Renaissance.

Brunogirl, right on, I think she knows exactly what her unique instrument can do to thousands at a clip. Nats one of a kind voice is a contralto version of david lee roth or axle rose for example. I've been awed by her music recently, utube's a modern marvel, allways loved Wonder and saw her unplugged at Shaker Heritage. Kinda sad that I missed something not seeing her live in her stage presence prime.  A music theorist probably can point out what we instinctively know is there by listening.

That woman can flat-out wail. I saw them live in 1988 in a college basketball arena, opening for REM and the place was, like, electric. Her voice blasted the roof off the place, she knows how to hit just the right notes with force, to get reverb off the walls and the rafters.
