Bistchen, there's an advisory on the door not to operate the locker at speeds above 5mph. Once it's locked you can go above 5mph, and it stays locked. You just can't engage it in 4h or 2h without doing a wire modification. I've used it locked in snow above 5mph in 4L, and it stayed locked. You can't go much over 5mph in 4L anyway.
Bet you didnt know that the TRD models un-lock themselves when you go faster than 5 mph. so really, you were going up the hill with a normal diiferential.
Steering the wheel back and forth is called "shuffle steer" google it.. It helps a lot. Mud racing. NASCAR uses to clean tires while on the track. Police officers are trained this. Truck drivers are trained this for control while skid pad training. Even short course off road racers use this a lot to keep tire tread free from mud and dirt packing in the grooves of the tires.
I'm surprised by all the comments. This was just a little afternoon of playing in a sand pit. We both had 4x4 TRD Tacomas. His diff was locked. I had 2 sets of short couse race tires. 16's on my truck grooved for steering, and he had my extra set of 15's grooved for drives. I couldn't even get up the hill in the sand, and the only way he was getting any bite was to turn the wheel back and forth. Otherwise, he just buried himself. I had to take an easy trail up.
he's not being an idiot, turning the wheel left and right can help you escape a sticky situation otherwise he would get stuck in a straight line and even with lockers youd start to slide, however lockers are good for moving on and thats what he's doing. ive gotten stuck in my vid and turning the wheel left and reversing got me out quick.
@2WheelinTacoma ...BUT, remember when rear diff lock kick in then ...POWER STEERING WHEEL will become NO POWER and only temp until rear diff lock OFF.
1 year ago i dont think its good to crank the wheel back and forth, but it worked Why not crank the wheel back and forth? What reasons?
- If he does not have 4x4 and only with LOCKER ..MUST keep 4 wheels on the ground as much as possible to PREVENT STUCK in the middle of nowhere by himself!

Oh yeah, we didn't have an air compressor with us, so there was no airing the tires down for the sand. It was still a fun day!

lol what are you doing with the steering wheel you look like an idiot doing a pantomime.

@edrees1o1
Moving the steering wheel back in forth like that, in a 4x4, can help you get traction and keep going.
TrailGator01 1 year ago
@TrailGator01 not as much as you think it does. if you would have just held the wheel straight you would have had the same results!

Don't know much about trucks...What dose Diff Locked really do...gotta same Yoda like your...
vaming559 3 years ago
makes both wheels spin the same rate of speed no matter what unlike limited slip or posi trac. but you have to have a locking differential.
TriCk2o9 2 years ago
DAMN POSI!!! Can't do burnouts lol
LovesToDrift 2 years ago
@vaming559 REAR DIFF LOCK when u stuck (or prevent to get stuck)
- When u push the button on the left, behind steering wheel, then:
- The rear wheel turn THE SAME SPEED to get out from the hole sand, mud or snow....
-Then after get out from the that holes....turn it off, you can not drive FAST if this function ON.
-Hope you understand of my English, I just try my best!!
