  • I guess they couldn't afford to get the guitar wet

  • i like this my dad shown me this to show that he was in a music video and a part of a good band

  • la semana during fiesta was a party with jkc...they finally had to stop selling pitchers of beer on the nights he performed...more beer was on the crowd than in their bellies///// hella fun!!!!

  • from far he reminds me of Nick Lowe

  • Looks more like Port A / Corpus than So Padre but perhaps not. I was there hehehe. And you probably weren't. Toast the metamucil tonight to man the myth. They are playing Continental Club Houston right now! Sob, I'm not there and I could be easily. 5 miles away. I suck at life sometimes.

  • @devolverful It's South Padre. During the 80's, Corpus/Port A had parking on the beach (still has) and not as many hotels/condos bunched together. South Padre, north of La Bahia del Mar hotel/condos was packed on the water-side of the main strip. Must have seen him half a dozen times back then. Grew up in Corpus and went to A&M...Great times. Back then the cops would make us pour out our alcohol or take it, never got a ticket or busted for a M.I.P.

  • Saw him many times in the mid-late 80s. Was famous for diving off the speakers into the fans and crowd surfing back to stage. Good times.

  • I saw Joe King Carrasco in 1988 in Oklahoma City. Between sets I asked him to play 'party weekend' and 'perfect spot'. He told me that he didn't play those songs anymore. lol

  • Hey Joe King fans - Joe just announced a reunion tour for June 2011 in Texas with the original Crowns. They're playing in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio (and may play in Houston, too). Check out his site for details!

  • Holy crap I have had that little synthesizer bit in my head forever and thank God I found this or I was going to leave it as a figment of my imagination! I miss the 80's so damn bad...

  • I remember when this shown on Nick Rock!

  • @TheHeliumkid "Nacho Daddy" is the perfect restaurant name for a washed-up rock star in the middle of a custody battle.

  • Joe King Carrasco just played at Joe Crows Tropical Bar & Grill in Bucerias, Mexico...they were amazing. We had a blast!

  • Yes, Like TOTALLY graduated in '85 fer sure!

  • Thank you!!! Haven't heard this song in over 20 years! Brings back lots of memories of high school in the 1980's!

  • La Semana Alegre Fiesta Week in San Antonio!!!

  • u have to like the diving into the crowd, plus the lady with the turtle

  • Oh I thought it was a normal weekend thanks for the info

  • It's a party party party weekend! Be safe!

  • I used to live at Padre, I actually saw part of that video being filmed. I was still in High School back then.

  • @Dedhedsurfer Yeah!!! Pretty Sad!!! I dont go anymore to spring break!

  • I remember seeing this ONCE only, and I never saw this vid. again! Thanks for bringing back memories of my high school days.

Don't worry about the quality: that brings back memories too! :P

  • @suddendee

I don't know if I ever saw the video but my best friend had this song on a 45 record....back in the stone ages! Let me guess....you graduated high school sometime btwn 194-86?

  • Alright already, let's get yet another weekend started with a set of rocking tunes like WHFS used to do. Enjoy and have a great weekend!!!

  • this was a song that whfs radio in washd c use to play everyfriday around 5pm to start the weekend

  • That's how I remember South Padre Island! Party, Party, Party. The 80's rocked!

  • The PATIO IN MESILLA NEW MEXICO! party weekend,go joe!

  • Saw King Joe at La Semana Allegre ages and ages ago in San Antonio during Fiesta - was totally wasted and it was totally cool!!! How old am I? LOL

  • I saw him so many times in Austin and Houston. One of the best shows ever was when he opened for the Police in Houston. He flat out BLEW THEM AWAY! Joe was all over the stage and in the rigging having a great time, and the audience went wild. Then the Police came out on a darkened stage and sat on bar stools... What a let down. At least The "King" saved the evening!

  • Wow....have great memories of him doing Irving Plaxa - NYC. Guessing it was about 1982?

  • Hey King Joe... Current Events are making me tense... come back to DC...we miss U

  • I once knew a fella who wouldn't immediately spring to his feet and tap his toes to the sounds of Joe King Carrasco and the Crowns. Now he's in prison where he belongs.

  • Still a great freaking band~! Had the honor of seeing them in Tampa a while back... and damn Id wish they would come back! Great in the 80s, still great!

  • Wow, I never noticed that b4 - thats Corpus in the video!! I remember at one of his concerts her in San Antonio at the riverwalk, the beer stand was on the other side of the river and a river bridge was about a block away, tooo far to walk. So we were wading accross the riverwalk to the beer stand. (it is only about 4-5 feet deep) After that they made a city ordinance that it was illegal to wade accross the riverwalk (yes downtown San Antonio riverwallk, like in the commercials)

  • ya know, this video is eerily similar the Beastie Boys original video: She's On It

now that I see this video again..

  • This brings back memories..... I roadied for this guy about a hundred years ago. Joe was the first many of us here in central Texas ever saw stage dive. His drummer was a guy named Dick Ross. He was a real cool guy and he always had a kind word for an up and coming 15 year old drummer. When these guys came to town I would meet them at the hall they were playing at and help them unload and set up. I miss those days......What great guys they were!

  • LONG LIVE TEXAS! and JOE KING CaRRASCO!

  • UT AUSTIN!!!!!

  • Who would've thought that these swimtrunks would be way too SHORT now?! I would have predicted Speedos would be common by now since the girls are practically naked.

  • When you guys say "South Padre" do you mean Corpus Christi or Port Isabel? The background looks so much like Corpus!

  • South Padre is Port Isabel. The video was filmed at South Padre

  • Great College music memories! Wish Itunes had more of Joe King.... their offerings are really limited! GO JOE!

  • Did bring back alot of great memories... went to Spring Break at Padre that year with a rugby budy on thiry for the week.... we had a blast.. camped out on the beach.... Heck the first day we got there we saw Joe King play.. got blasted did not get to the camp site until 3:00 am.. What a week it was...

  • WOW! This was how it was. I remember South Parade Beach, TEXAS .. 1983 or so.. Joe King and the Crowns! And there were some cameras and stuff.

WOW! Seeing this makes me wonder where my "checkered board bandanna", Vuarnet sunglasses and slide on Van's shoes are at.

Joe "King" Carrasco in any fourm is truly classic TEXAS music.

  • I can't believe I found this . I am the guy

sitting down waving at the camera. I had

many people say the saw this but I never did

until today. 8-31-08 . I was on spring break

from the University of Arkansas Rusto

  • oh me, there i am, shakin' my thing. the good ole days.

  • For the last 25 years I've done my best to forget this and now I have to see it again. Ug.

  • It seems like in the 80's Joe King played every year at La Semana Alegre in San Antonio. Party Party Weekend may have disappeared on the radio, but come April...Joe King was once again back in the highlights for a month or so. In my mind it became the theme song for La Semana and Fiesta. Great times and great stage dives!!!

  • Oh, I've got some MTV raw footage of us on "The Cutting Edge", the Sunday night live show, playing at The Music Machine in Westwood, CA. Later that night, we went bowling with The Go-Go's and Nigel from Blondie! I miss them days!

  • I'm enjoying reading all these comments! Actually, we shot the video in March of 1983 at South Padre Island Spring Break. It took two days and after shooting all day, we fly down to Harlingen, TX to do a show and then back that night and then up the morning to shoot all day and then play that night with "Mike (Love) & Dean (Torrence)" for a live MYV show. Whew! But hey, when you're 20something,who needs sleep! I do remember the pyramid guy(bover44)! Take care all from those days! Bruce(bassist)

  • I remember this guy from La Semana Alegre during Fiesta Week in San Antonio. Those were GREAT times!!!!

  • this was shot by MTV in south padre during spring break 1983. I was 1 of the guys making the pyramid at the beginning. i remember the MTV people just showing up and telling us to do something stupid for a Joe King video. Heard about it but never thought i would see it.

    Bover44

  • Is ur name Bill?

  • oh me oh my...memories, the ones i have left of the early 80s for sure include joe king c....auditorium shores concerts for free.....fun free crazy fun!!!!! keep austin wierd!!

  • This is exactly how the 80's were, every day.

  • Yeah..These were the good ole days..Surf'n..Brew and Babes..

  • What good times in Austin Texas in the 80's!! Reminds me of a New Years Eve back in 1984 at the Austin Opry House, when I was in 9th grade. Joe King played an amazing show and I got really drunk and wondered around S. Congress and B. Springs, finally puking at the Burger King.-Good Times!. Reminds be of institutions no longer here where Joe Played, like-Liberty Lunch, Club Foot and Aquafest back when it rocked. So many things and places gone!! Thanks for posting! Cheers!!

  • this takes me back to La Semana, when it was next to hemisphere arena.

  • OMG!! I've just been time-warped back to the early 80's in Austin, TX and many late night JKC & The Crowns shows at Club Foot! I was a little black lady standing by the rails next to the stage nursing one diet coke all night but I was there for the music...and the show's hi-light...his jumping in the crowds at the front of the stage! Awesome! Man I miss those days!

  • Greatest party song ever performed. Every song JKC & Crowns performs makes you wanna dance. How can I youthen and go back to those days?

And what the heck happened to Kris Cummings? Adding her to Joe was the perfect combination. (Not forgetting Brad) Shouldn't Kris and Joe have gotten married or something?

Anyone up for a reunion concert? Give me about 6 months to get ready.

Seriously, I'd go get back in shape if I knew I could attend a JKC and the Crowns concert again.

    -Lloyd

  • This was back in the day where everybody got along and just had grat fun. Everybody nowadays is just too PC and uptight to have a good time.

  • Man, you said it. I couldn't agree more.

Back in the '80s, it was all about just having fun and sharing the good times. What the hell happened?

  • I often wonder that myself. At that time at least in Texas, we were experiencing great economic times. The oil was still flowing, everybody had a decent job, and we were all young with a positive outlook. This also bled over into pop culture as well. So it was all good. Then as the 80's progressed Texas took a turn. The oil economy had slowed to a small trickle. Decent jobs became scarce. Alot of bad karma was going on. And what I observed was that it bled over into pop culture as well.

  • All of the sudden all of the postivity just dried up. Cocaine had kicked in full time destroying a lot of people. There was an underlining sense of desperation creeping in. I observed with all that pop culture changed as well. Instead of fun music and fun times, The whole Glam/sleeze metal thing was happening as well. All of the sudden acts like Guns and Roses, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat and all. They reflected what was going on in society at that time. It all happened so quickly.

  • I went to Galveston for spring break during that time. I noticed that the kids were a bit different. They were more reckless, more violent. Heavy drugs were everywhere. So I think a toxic cocktail of bad economic times, drugs, and desperation, made to take a lot of fun out of it. But hey, it was all good. I had so much fun back in the day, girls, beer, fun in the sun!..alomst makes you want to cry now. To quote a lyric, "Though these are just memories, some memories are forever". God bless Texas

  • ALOT of us still remember those days!

JOE KING CARRASCO and los number two dinners!

The Von Erich brothers, ZZ Top ,

Stevie Ray Vaughn, the soap DALLAS, Dangerous Toys, TEXAS still is its own country! Society sucks now and the influence is there but its up to us older dudes to calm down these new young cats and teach them to party RIGHT! Cant just shake our heads and turn our backs.LONG LIVE TEXAS!

  • Good point, it is our responsibility to teach the younger folks. Same as those who taught us. One of those "Circle of life" things I guess. Missing Texas horribly nowadays.

  • Man, you said it. I couldn't agree more.

Back in the '80s, it was all about just having fun and sharing the good times. What the hell happened?

  • We graduated from UT, moved away, got jobs, married (some more than others) and got past 40... shit... at least most of us made it.

  • Love the video. Listening to Joe on the way to Galveston, and Surfside beach. What a time to be young and alive. O.K. I'm going to get choked up here.

  • the innovator turns emulator. joe king carrasco appears to be imitating devo in terms of the "sound" of the song. (even the video is a bit derivative of devo's efforts in this genre.) the whole thing feels more like akron, ohio than tex-mex. which isn't so bad. but carrasco got their FIRST. (well, maybe not before question mark and the mysterians, but before devo. that's for sure.)

  • Hey Joe, Let's got nuts! Saw you in Hoston many times. Too bad you never hit the bigtime, SNL did you dirty!

  • too cool brings back memories of So Padre, crowd surfing, yea, those were the days before the pagan festivals that are there now

  • funkin awesome! fiesta in san antonio...niosa...ah to be young again!

  • Hey HughBeaumont (a few posts down), EVERY show we did was radical!! (I'm the bass player) It was fun making this video, except for the water slide because the water was like 50 degrees or something!

  • I've been looking for this one like, forever!! The King stage dives at the end, and the show's not even hardcore. Radical.

  • OMG!! Filmed South Padre Island 1980s?? How can I get better/permanent copy??

  • think that was the 70's

  • OMG---Thank you slider---this is awesome and brings back those awesome 80's memories!!!

  • Excellent find. This came from HBO's "Video Jukebox".
