when i saw the title of the video at 1st i only saw "Curlins first foal" and was about to celebrate till I saw the word "dies" under that and then I almost cried. I've alway loved Curlin. He was my pick to win all 3 TC races, stilll think he just had a bad trip in the Derby (trapped) and fell in love in the Belmont ;)
SHES BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS NOT PEOPLES FAULT BUT THERE SHOULD NOT BE BARB WIRE PLUS I WOULD NOT EVEN LET ME FILLY OUT OF THE FREAKING BARN YET NOT TIL' HER BONES WERE HARD ENOUGH AND DURABLE.
I read somewhere right after it happened that she had shattered her shoulder. The way it was written made it seem like it was a genetic problem. Can't seem to find the article now. NOT that Curlin is badly bred things happen. Rachel Alexandra was the 4th or 5th foal out of her dam and the ONLY survivor.
@nacomagenic There's just new reglementation in his names, thousand and thousands of $ spend in his name researching for laminintis, thousand and thousand of horses saved from slaughter in his name, he just pushed the quest of anti-slaughter, have his DVD, his book about his legacy, have fans who collected money to pay to threat injured horses for owners who can't afford...etc, no big deal...
I had the privilege of meeting Zophie and her new foal about 10 days after she was born. The next thing I knew, she was put down. Zophie was very accommodating and I told her "thank you for letting me see your little girl." She seemed pleased at the attention although her filly was a little skittish and shy. This made me so sad. I can't bear to look at the pictures I took of her, but I will keep them always.
Yes i understand accidents happen. But on our farm we have raised 3 foals and they never got an injury that was un repairable. We dont have the kind of facilities they do. We got barb wire fences, thats it.
it happens, you could keep them in tiny standing stalls all day with less risk of injury but why? Let them run free in the paddock, accidents happen. It's not like they had barbed wire fences or anything. Still sad though.
RIP Precious Little One. May you race the wind forever in Heaven. All I know is this past January was one of the coldest months we have had in a long time with lot's of ice and snow. It is easy to have an accident in a paddock with those conditions. Horses aren't always careful on slippery ground. That is why I keep mine in the barn when we get ice & snow.

thos people who watched her are such pigs how could they let something happen to one of the most famous horses throughout the world's daughter? Thats soo sad for curlin, but such a shame on the people who neglected that filly!
I don't believe its their fault. It could've happened to any foal out there. It was a paddock accident, she injured herself and they couldn't save her.
@XoDonutxBreyeroX I understand what you mean - I hope there was no neglect or indifference or cruelty here. She was a lovely baby. It's a sad world we live in!
@XoDonutxBreyeroX Neglect? Have you ever in your life seen or handled a horse let alone a foal? These are unpredictable animals...you can take evey conceivible precaution and an accident can happen. Brave of you to profess your ingnorance on the internet for all to read! Shame on you for your insensitive remarks!
@umarmaxmas Apparently the 'barn people' MIGHT be 'so #u.#king stupid', max.as.s....
you really enjoy ripping into others, don't you? And you present yourself as a RREEAAALLL expert. Funny, if I owned a million dollar foal - if I owned a RESCUE foal - I'm shrewd enought to figure out how to keep it SAFE! That's what smart people are supposed to do, right? Keep the animals & people they're responsible SAFE?
@umarmaxmas I'll make a point of avoiding your comments - you strike me as callous, arrogant, materialist & unkind. It's awful when any young creature - full of beauty & life - dies. Money isn't always the primary issue (well, maybe for you - not for everyone).
is it just me or do her markings look kind of like rachel alexandra?

I think they should breed Curlin to the filly that beat him (Rags to Riches) :) (unless they are too related)

Tragic and not at all unusual... TB's are incredibly strong and at the same time fragile. Undoubtedly the reason we love them so much.

@sremel9 And the only reason Rachel Alexandra survived was because she got a nurse mare...Lotta Kim rejected her.
