Not the greatest center ever, but he sure got the job done when the team needed it. Longley was a major factor in Chicago's quest for the second 3-peat.
An Aussie Trailblazer! The clip where he is blocked by Ewing, gets it back and dunks is like his career. When you get told your too slow, can't shoot and can't play D what do you do? Keep going, work hard and stuff it in their face!!! I bet all those who dobuted you don't have ring to prove how great they are. Love your work Luke! Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!
0:41 great play...gets blocked but gets the ball back and goes back up harder than before...most players would be embarrassed having let the other player make the top 10 list of the day but instead he goes back in strong immediately...true passion for the game!
I was born and raised in Seattle, and a Sonics fan. Yet, I've always liked Luc Longley, and was so happy for Longley, Kerr, Randy Brown, Jud Bechler and Bill Wennington winning rings in 1995-96, even though they beat my Sonics.
Good ol' Fremantle Boy, me mum used to live near him in freo, and she said he never was seen without bouncing a basketball. It's all dedication, and this guy had it.
Proud to be Australian! And let's be honest his stats weren't great, but just because he wasn't offensive, it doesn't mean he wasn't a good player, so people just calm down, making it to the NBA is already a huge feat in itself
This is ridiculous, no one on this page can be serious! Luc Longley is a joke. Has anyone bothered to look at his career stats? He may have won a championship but that Bulls team could have won with Stephen Hawking as their Center... In fact they did with Joe Kleine! This video just proves that you can make a highlight reel of anyone and make them look good.
@ridingonapigmofo I'm not trying to dog the maker of the highlight reel. In fact to do one of a player who isn't very good must be very difficult indeed! But as to my comment that anyone can made to look good in a highlight reel is true. Just look to the right and click the "Greg Ostertag Mix" and you'll see what I mean.
@velnerj he was one of the best! are you on crack??? he was on the starting 5 for the Bulls when they won (3 times), and if you put it into context of what his role in the team was, he was the best! Period :) so if you would please do some research before you make outlandish claims it would be much appreciated! and its clear that you're jealous as fuck!!!!!!!!
good 'ole 90s b-ball. Luc had one of the smoothest hookshots there was. He'd do that shit all the time in the paint and that's what I remember him for.
Anyone here that says Longley was crap doesnt know much about basketball.. If longley played in todays NBA he would be up there with the top centers, because he is quite fast for someone who is 7'2", he has a decent shot, a massive defensive presence and he would be one of the strongest men in the NBA.. He has more raw strength than Dwight Howard, the only remaining NBA player that would be stronger than Luc is Shaq.. He plays the center role perfectly, thats one reason why the bulls did so well
@scottyobigg he wasnt crap but ROFLMAO, top centers, what planet do you live on? even with the least competition ever at the center position he wouldnt crack top 5...
@Iknowhowtospellsorta Ron Harper is no poor man’s Mitch Richmond; before his knee injury he was drawing comparisons to Jordan. There was a point in time where the gap in talent between Jordan and Harper was pretty small.
@MCEntreri Athletically speaking. Harper didn't have Jordan's IQ or skills and was signed by the Bulls to replace Jordan (when he was in the minor leagues). Harper couldn't understand the triangle and went from averagin 20 a game for the Clippers to 7 a game for the Bulls.

ElDiabloWhoppo and others, as you can see in the video, Luc was always was of the more humbler, laid back types in the NBA. Even when he made the big dunk, or came up with a big rejection, he rarely if ever made a show of it, just kept his head down, modest amongst a team of big stars and tbh big egos with Jordan, Rodman and co. He was a team man and did his role exceptionally well, and due to this, was perhaps quite under rated because of this. Just a quiet character among all the excitement.
I grew up a UNM Lobos fan watching Luc and now up to Danny Granger, JR Giddens, Kenny Thomas, Darrington Hobson, Charles "Spider" Smith, Greg Brown, & Michael "Coop" Cooper so I say have a fair say on former UNM Ballers. Luc was a class act. He was a mammoth of a man, nimble on his feet, a throwback center, mean streak. he was the #7 first rd draft pick backin the day!!! was on the cover of Sports Illustrated his Senior season. Oh yeah, he played with Michael Jordan, Pippen & has 3 RINGS

Luc's my cousin and let me just say he's a great guy. The bulls made it 3 times because they played each others strengths and had respect for each other. Although it did take a while! I remember hanging out with the whole team after a win in new mexico, my mum was at the bar chatting up scotty pippen (funniest shit you'd ever see) and jorden was on the balcony pointing down to the crowd and choosing which sexy couple of ladies could come and join them.
@ttacx Damn. Did he recover after that fire that burned down his house?..Cuz I remember reading that all his things were in the home including the championship rings. Does he still keep in touch w/Kerr, Bushler, and Wennington? It always seemes to me that those guy's were close on the team.
@cRs93318 yes he recovered amazingly! bought a new ware / house just around the corner and totally decked it out. just improved on his idea's from the first one which is pretty cool, looks very similar to his last pad. oh and yes he did loose sooo much memorabilia but his championship rings and all the real important stuff was in a fire proof safe, and yes he still hangs out with his boys :)
@cRs93318 I remember seeing him on TV not long after his house burnt down and he lost all his Bulls memorabilia..... saying that Michael Jordan had sent him some of his own championship memorabilia when he found out what happened to Luc's. That's the difference between Jordan and thank wanker Le Moron James. 1 has class.
I seen a tonne of 7 footers that seriously sucked balls, luc was not one of them. Did what was asked of him and won the bulls a playoff game single handed. He could ball. But he knew his role too.
basketball isn't an individual sport it's best played selflessly, with teamwork the the most important factor in a successful team. The Bulls were made up of players that complimented each other so perfectly, and Jordan had the selfless nature about him to make plays when he could but pass and give up responsibility when the time and scenario called for it.
Pippen was a better defender, and plus when Jordan retired the first time, Pippen still lead the team to a 50+ win season, not mediocre, he was everything you could want in a 2nd option scorer.
In response to those who think he sucks. He was a very good role payer, he was there to bang bodies, make passes and support his teamates. Jordan, Pippen, kukoc and Rodman were the stars everyone else juts had to be solid
I am an Australia, ao forgive the bias. However he was too soft, lacked aggressivness and look to pass first, twice, sceond and third before shooting himself. Its a shame, because I remeber seeing him manhandle Alonzo a few times, but Alonzo was so much more aggressive that it was the differnce
EBofr someone posts some idiot comment saying "Longley Sucks"---Let me say Longley was a solid Center. Not great or anything but if you say he sucks then you don't know basketball. He held his own against legends like Ewing, Shaq, Mourning, Mutumbo, etc in the 90s when the Bulls won Titles. Heck if you had the 90s Longley playing in todays NBA he would be Top 5-10 for sure because after Dwight Howard, Boozer, you don;t have really any great Centers anymore.
i know basketball and he sucked,,,,,trust me, if he wasnt the fact that he was 7 2, he would not be in the NBA. Also, he played on an all star team in Chicago and just found himself open for dunks. You do not know hoops.
If he would have sucked then Shaq would have AVG. 50 PPG against him in playoffs, same with Ewing, Mourning, etc. No way MJ or Pippen could have guarded those centers since they are undersized so Longley did not lose the game for them which is all he was asked to do. I did not say he was a star by no means but he was a solid role player. Again you would have to know hoops to know this and not say something stupid such as "he sucks". Don't bother replying because I won't read it.
No, he was also a very good passer in Phil's triangle offense, and he could hit the mid range jumper. Many MJ highlights of mid 90's Bulls had Luc passing to MJ from the high post. So yeah, I would say you don't really know hoops.
AH, yes I do, I played college ball and trust me, if he was 6' 5" , he would not have the skills to be in the NBA. My whole point is that he was TALL and that made him a decent player...there, I said he was decent or servicible is a better word.
yeah and how many players have gone through the NBA that were "serviceable" just beacause of their height. Answer: A Shitload, they're called role players. At the end of the day, the Chicago Bulls did not start a guy along side Michael Jordan just to make up the starting 5. You don't get to that level by just being serviceable. There are thousands of of 7ft ers around the world playing ball, Luc must of been doing something right.
@droctagon3k I love Longley, and was glad he got three rings. Even though I'm a Seattle Sonics fan, and his first ring came at the expense of my team in 1995-96, there were about 6 or 7 players on the BULLS who I was happy to see get rings: Longley, Kerr, Wennington, Randy Brown, Bechler, Dickey Simpkins, Jason Caffey and Jack Haley.
@spartymls guess u werent as good as luc to make the starting 5 in the best team in the world atb their most sucessful era. i think luc's a better judge that u about who sucks, buddy
Carlos Boozer isnt a center....and no longley wouldnt be a top 5-10 center....camby, kaman, howard, horford, oneal, bynum, marc gasol, okafor, jermaine oneal, big z, n many other centers are better than him, u say he held his own but he couldnt stop them from getting their 20 and 10 with the exception of mutombo who is not a big post scorer
top 5 center...yeah right......get off this guy...he is not that good........Kaman would OWN him, Camby would own him, Illguaskas would own him, Okefor, Chandler, Bogut,,,,,,the list goes on and on,. he AINT good or never was good, he was servicible
Agree with you there though, he aint top 5 center worthy, would be struggling to make top 10. In reference to JZ2001JC, a guy that listed Boozer as a Center. Don't agree with camby and chandler owning him, offensively anyway, big Z would be holding his own with him.
not good as shaq but better than most trash we have now these day espcecially 56 000 000$ tyson chandler and jokim noah

I seen a tonne of 7 footers that seriously sucked balls, luc was not one of them. Did what was asked of him and won the bulls a playoff game single handed. He could ball. But he knew his role too.

Scottie P was medocre at best. Jordan made everyone stand out. If Luc had been 6'5 his game would have been different.

basketball isn't an individual sport it's best played selflessly, with teamwork the the most important factor in a successful team. The Bulls were made up of players that complimented each other so perfectly, and Jordan had the selfless nature about him to make plays when he could but pass and give up responsibility when the time and scenario called for it.
ramzevans 2 years ago
@ramzevans You are correct. That is why the NBA sucks today .
ngnnick1967 2 years ago 3
Pippen was a better defender, and plus when Jordan retired the first time, Pippen still lead the team to a 50+ win season, not mediocre, he was everything you could want in a 2nd option scorer.
nutshell88 2 years ago
Yes he did but he still did not get a ring with out Jordan.
ngnnick1967 2 years ago
@ngnnick1967 none of them would have got a ring without jordan

@AceFan88
Jordan wouldn't have got a ring without Scottie, your point?
also remember they went to the conference finals when Jordan first retired.

Its a shame, because I remeber seeing him manhandle Alonzo a few times, but Alonzo was so much more aggressive that it was the differnce

luc longley sucks :-P
pimpjuice51086 2 years ago
EBofr someone posts some idiot comment saying "Longley Sucks"---Let me say Longley was a solid Center. Not great or anything but if you say he sucks then you don't know basketball. He held his own against legends like Ewing, Shaq, Mourning, Mutumbo, etc in the 90s when the Bulls won Titles. Heck if you had the 90s Longley playing in todays NBA he would be Top 5-10 for sure because after Dwight Howard, Boozer, you don;t have really any great Centers anymore.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago 2
i know basketball and he sucked,,,,,trust me, if he wasnt the fact that he was 7 2, he would not be in the NBA. Also, he played on an all star team in Chicago and just found himself open for dunks. You do not know hoops.
spartymls 2 years ago
If he would have sucked then Shaq would have AVG. 50 PPG against him in playoffs, same with Ewing, Mourning, etc. No way MJ or Pippen could have guarded those centers since they are undersized so Longley did not lose the game for them which is all he was asked to do. I did not say he was a star by no means but he was a solid role player. Again you would have to know hoops to know this and not say something stupid such as "he sucks". Don't bother replying because I won't read it.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
No, he was also a very good passer in Phil's triangle offense, and he could hit the mid range jumper. Many MJ highlights of mid 90's Bulls had Luc passing to MJ from the high post. So yeah, I would say you don't really know hoops.
droctagon3k 2 years ago
AH, yes I do, I played college ball and trust me, if he was 6' 5" , he would not have the skills to be in the NBA. My whole point is that he was TALL and that made him a decent player...there, I said he was decent or servicible is a better word.
spartymls 2 years ago
yeah and how many players have gone through the NBA that were "serviceable" just beacause of their height.

@droctagon3k
He was one of the best passing Centres for his time, and played his
role well with the Bulls.

WOW! You played college ball, and now what are you doing? Dominating the NBL or sitting on your arse in some comp below the CBA.

@spartymls guess u werent as good as luc to make the starting 5 in the best team in the world atb their most sucessful era. i think luc's a better judge that u about who sucks, buddy
sliat1981 1 year ago
Carlos Boozer isnt a center....and no longley wouldnt be a top 5-10 center....camby, kaman, howard, horford, oneal, bynum, marc gasol, okafor, jermaine oneal, big z, n many other centers are better than him, u say he held his own but he couldnt stop them from getting their 20 and 10 with the exception of mutombo who is not a big post scorer
khadeemw91 2 years ago
top 5 center...yeah right......get off this guy...he is not that good........Kaman would OWN him, Camby would own him, Illguaskas would own him, Okefor, Chandler, Bogut,,,,,,the list goes on and on,. he AINT good or never was good, he was servicible
spartymls 2 years ago
Agree with you there though, he aint top 5 center worthy, would be struggling to make top 10. In reference to JZ2001JC, a guy that listed Boozer as a Center. Don't agree with camby and chandler owning him, offensively anyway, big Z would be holding his own with him.
