Robert Duvall has also written music and performed it, as in the movie, "Tender Mercies." You can find it on youtube called, "If you'll hold the ladder, I'll climb to the top." It's nice! I read that he was raised Christian scientist by his mother and while he still practices it, doesn't attend church. He married a lovely Argentinian. I'm guessing she may be Catholic, since she went to Catholic school. If that be the case, it's great that they find compatibility in their faiths.
What a beautiful duet...I just pray that the lyrics to this song have a special meaning to RD and that he truly "loves to tell the story of Jesus and His love."
@jd450lh he is passionate about the song. watch his movie The Apostle, which has this song as the title track. im pretty sure he wrote that movie and starred in it too.
This is not the first time that I have heard Robert Duvall sing. I wonder if he ever thought about becoming a singer rather than going into acting. He is a great actor, but he might have also become a great singer.
This accomplished actor Robert Duvall along with this crisp, pure singer Emmy Lou Harris, draw out the very soul of their efforts and display them to their receptive audience. The utmost beauty stems from simplicity and simplicity is the essence of purity.
OMG! I love Emmylou and i am a HUGE fan of Robert Duvall - what a pair! Thank you ...thank you ...thank you ...it's more appreciated than you'll ever know! That's what I love about this site! xo
That is so beautifully sung ....I just uploaded the same beautiful old gospel song today...will send you a video response and you can do the same on my channel if you care.....
I've always loved movies with Robert Duval, but I had no idea of this spiritual side of his life. Thank you for posting and God bless you. OneKewpie.
Emmylou has one of the purest and best voices ever and Robert Duvall does himself proud on this song. I agree with a comment from another viewer that he is the best actor of our time. I have sung this song my whole life and they really nail it. Bless both their hearts.
Its from 1998. The intro Ive got is very brief - just David Letterman saying 'here is something very special' whilst waving The Apostle CD and mentioning the film. There is also an extremely brief bit after with Emmylou and Robert sitting next to Letterman who asks RD when the film is to be released but then the show finishes..
thanks for re-enstating, hope it don't get pulled again, luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it luv it

Perfect. Pure and innocent. I love it when the song itself is "the star"....not the messengers. I hope the audiance appreciated it.

In the celebrity age, where fame seems to be prized over all : it's nice to see a man just be himself.

Does anyone know when this aired? It was on Letterman, correct? I would love to see and hear the introduction to this.
Thanks.
