Hey this is currently priced at £40 ($63) brand new, do you think I should get it, Is the screen size reasonable, and how fast are the page turns with PDF files, I have large PDF files around 15MB so I need to know how fast they are at turning..It would be nice if you could post the products System Requirements if available.
@BattleGround16 $63 seems like a decent price. The screen turn is OK but not as fast as the newest readers. I don't know the specific system specs on it
I recently got one of these from my girlfriend for my birthday, but I cannot figure out how to sync it with my library on my pc? It came with the Kobo desktop installer and I subsequently bought a book from the Kobo library. When i connect my device to the computer it and I press sync, it tells me that the books are available in my library, however when I unplug and look at my Aluratek Libre, in the ebook section it doesnt show up... any thoughts? Am I doing something blindly obvious wrong or?
@oliverwilliamboulton Perhaps the books are on the SD card in your reader and not in the internal memory? That's all I can think of right now. It is a good reader so once you figure out where the books are you should enjoy it.
@VideoBeerReviews It's cool, I figured it out, I hadn't properly setup my adobe online account so it wasnt authorising the transfer to my libre... Mine didnt come with an SD card, kinda disappointing but It was bought fairly cheaply I think. Thanks for the help though. It is a good ereader, I am very pleased with it! Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get one at entry level!
Thanks so much for your review - it was very helpful! I'm considering either the Libre Color, Kobo Touch or Iriver Story HD. Would love a color reader, but was concerned about eye strain. Glad to know it's not an issue with the Libre readers :)
I own 1 of these and its great but i had to phone Aluratek support before i actually grasped the concept of downloading books but now i know how to and it is a pretty great e-reader.
@MandaManiatv I think $70 is a good price. I paid almost $170 back in February of 2010. Compared to many e-readers out there today, the Aluratak Libre isn't the "latest and greatest" but it works well. I still enjoy mine.
I have had this reader for 10 months and am happy with it. The books can be bought from Kobo, Google, Sony, and many other sources and also you can use your local library books, too. No eyestrain or glare and pocket size. You can use any Sony aftermarket reader case with this too. It's identical to the Ectaco Jetbook, but uses Kobo DRM rather than B&N, uses up to a 32GB SD card, and is a great bargain (at less than $80 at several websites).
@candorist It's pretty good about reading most text/picture formats. I read alot of comics and stuff on mine and so long as you get the more used formats (PDF, JPEG, TXT, etc.) you shouldn't have a problem.
So, after more than a year since you bought it, would you say there is a noticeable difference in the battery life? Anything that has made you regret buying it? Still easy on the eyes? Thanks!
@madablasan The only thing that has changed at all is that the battery life is a little less than when it was new. It's still easy to read and I enjoy using it. That being said, unless you could find this for under $100 there are other options that might be better. The new Nook looks nice and there are some other newer ereaders that might be worth a look.
@ChrisD1andOnly The ebooks for this reader are usually "epub" format. You can get those at many online book sites like BooksOnBoard, for example. Check them out. Also, you might want to check out the MobileRead forums. There's lots of good information there as well.
@exposed97 Yeah, the retro look is great! It's definitely not the sleekest looking reader but it works well, and the price is good as well. Thanks for watching!
Junk, dark screen is hard to read, this is nowhere close to the Kindle or Nook as far as looking like a real page. See before you buy, India support, no contrast or brightness adjustment, just an overprice monochrome mp3 player.
@jaxfl99 Sorry you think it's a piece of junk. I can say that I've read thousands of pages on it and it still works fine. The screen is easy enough to read and it performs fine. The Kindle and Nook are nice as well. When I bought this it was considerably less than the Nook or Kindle. The prices are closer now, which is great for everyone.
@jaxfl99 This is NOT e-ink so obviously it is not the same thing! Having said that I would like to first say thank you to the reviewer, you did a great job reviewing this! For people who are looking for a no nonsense "e-book" reader this is a great choice at a great price. If you don't know how to operate a computer and transfer books or want to pay for instant books then get a kindle, nook and the other junk that is out there! This is a GREAT ebook reader.
One question I have that I haven't found an answer to is can you share books with this reader? The thing that turned me off for the Kindle was that you have to agree not to share the files with anyone- and I think that's something that should be possible when I buy a book. Since you store files on an SD card with this one, I was curious of what would happen if you had two of these devices and switched the cards. Would that give me the ability to share with someone else?
@LittleHotaruble Sharing eBooks can be a problem if you have an encrypted file. I think the thing that controls your ability to share files is the Adobe Digital Editions software. It only allows a certain number of readers to be "authorized" (I think it's 6). I can share books between my Aluratek and my wife's new Sony reader with no problems, as long as both readers are connected to the same version of the Adobe software.
@monjod Yeah, they got spanked by those Cowboys. Oh, well. It sucks but CSU is still a nice school, much prettier than Laramie :-) Thanks for watching!
@pricardo333 Downloading for free is fine if the book is available (public domain) but if it's not then you have to pay for them. That doesn't seem retarded to me.
@VideoBeerReviews Lol excuse my kiddish language. All i'm saying is, that website takes you to books that would otherwise cost you $10+ in the ebook stores.
@VideoBeerReviews nope new. was in today's (5/7/10) ad. seemed too good a price, but your review sealed it for me; ordered it immediately after watching.
If you could answer my question I would be most grateful,I'm about to go purchase one depending on what your answer is :)
compared to other E-readers, does this ones screen and wording look Dull?,i mean a bit darker or does it look pretty much the same! like actual paper such as the sony E-reader
@nhojproductions The Libre has a very readable screen but there is a very slight gratint to the background, it's not pure white. I haven't looked at many other e-readers so I don't have a lot of comparison. Try one out before you buy it just to make sure would be my suggestion.
thankyou man, my local NCIX is closed on Sunday today! but Ill be their tomorrow morning buying one of these!
Im learning animation so all I really need is to look at character model sheets and read animation pdfs!
I also know that these baby's will look obsolete in a year or two even the $600 dollar ones so might as well buy this one that seams to be the most affordable and trustworthy based on its review by really nice people like yourself :)
