  • Alison Krauss is great in this, but so is Vince Gill. These are two of the greatist musicians ever, both for their singing and their playing, and they have worked together many times.

  • I could listen to Alison Krauss read from a phone book. This really does top the original.

  • I like this version a lot. I like the original too, but in a different way....

  • Genesis always called this one of their country songs. Also "Chamber of 32 Doors", "More Fool Me", "Time Table", "Pigeons" & "Happpy the Man" etc.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa get himmmm boiiiii No this is just disgusting! please delete!

  • alison and union station are the best i luv them

  • bales is at his best. love it.

  • Every one on this stage is the best at what they do, no one is better no one, no where......can top these people. If you think someone can show me, It can't be done

  • I'm not a big country music fan but this was pretty good. This song rules.

  • She's gorgeous. Are you kidding me?

  • Just a matter of personal opinion.

  • You're just not that heterosexual. LOL

  • She's awesome, but he sucks! She sings his song better than he can!

  • when was this

  • the bass come's out good on this

  • this is the best of the best.- THAT ALL

  • honestly, this cover gives a much more comfortable feeling to the song. i mean the original has more power, this leave room for you to get comfortable with the tune and really embrace the words

  • i wasn't expecting "Return of the Giant Hogweed".

  • What a great version of an already good song.xx

  • I like the drummer on this (Larry Adamanieu (sp?))..but i think he could have used the original groove on the genesis version.

  • this was outstanding to listen too. beautiful harmonies. I enjoy hearing dan tamynski too

  • This version has amazing energy! They are in the groove. Vince's blues vocals inform the melody and turn it one its head. Jerry Douglas rocks and the upright bass player does everything a bass player should -- he is steady, while moving and pushing the music right along.I love this.

  • Incredible!

  • Incredibly outrageous!!

Country covering a Genesis song!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing says progressive rock like country.

    WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?!!!!!!!

  • dude calm down. its a video.

  • Actually, if any category were to cover this particular Genesis tune, it would be country. Even during the Genesis tour when this song was first released, Phil himself was kidding around saying that he & the guys wrote a country tune called "That's All". So, they knew it could fit into country when they wrote back in 1983, evidently. And, I'm a HUGE Genesis fan. But, Alison & Vince & company did okay here. It could have been much worse Type in Marilyn McCoo - that's all. You'll see what I mean

  • dude shut up....they took an already good song and put more comfortable soul into by using bluegrass

  • yes, there are worse remakes of this song out there. So maybe compared to those its not absolutley horrible. Genesis = progressive rock. Country does not equal progressive - it equals conservative.

  • no genesis=80's synth...not prog rock...john petrucci is prog rock, joe satriani is prog rock.

even if your point is true i fail to see why that bars them from doing a cover...and no matter how conservative or progressive any genre is viewed there is always musical progression within the genre.

  • 80's synth?! lol yes Genesis had hits in the 80's that were high on the charts and alot of people who don't know Genesis think that's all they are. Do you even know that Peter Gabriel was in Genesis? They started in mid to late 60s. Would Union Station have a concert in Rome with 500 000 people? Well guess what, Genesis did in 2007. nothing against country music, its big in the southern states, but groups like Genesis sell out stadium concerts worldwide even after not touringin 15-20 years.

  • garth brooks' concert in central park had at least two million people some say 5 thats about twice the population of utah...i know plenty others who love country/bluegrass and you know what? they have never even been to the south...garth brooks also had a show with 500,000 people in where???? NONE OTHER THAN DUBLIN IRELAND.allison krauss and union station is a band that has bridged gaps and redefines music in all genres...she will be around alot longer than you or me.

  • totally agree with you there. And to re-enforce your fact, the Official Genesis page here on Youtube states that they are Progressive Rock. enough said.

  • Next time you have a thought, leave it

stop stereotyping country/bluegrass music enthusiasts as racist, fundamentalist, and dumb. Also just because prog is more "complex" does not make it better than bluegrass music, some of the greatest musicians to grace us play in the bluegrass genre "i.e. Jerry Douglas" just because you have memorized the, ionian mixolydian, dorian, phrygian etc scales does not give you the right to decide what is legit. When will people realize music is not a competition

  • Totally! The best music conveys feeling. Complexity has nothing to do with good music.

  • sometimes feelings are complex hmm...

  • @SlickSmooth22

Let us not forget that Captain Trips and Dawg were bluegrass enthusiasts and no mean players themselves.

Garcia racist fundamentalist and dumb my ass.

I'm far from sure that prog is in fact more complex than this, anyway.

BTW chase up the Bert Jansch, who started out as a Brit acoustic blues guitarist, then incorporated folk and some jazz into his style, particularly for his version of 'Cluck Old Hen' which is not on youtube but is on Spotify.

  • definitely..but not all tv evangelists are like that. some are true to their word even though i kinda tend to shy away from hoopla like that (i am a christian).

  • After hearing it once I don't think it's better than the original, but I still think it's a very good version. Pretty much like a good cover version should (or could) be: Fairly close to the original and not changing things just to change them, but still with the artists' own flavour in it. Well done!

  • Easily my favourite version of this song.

  • I always love it when Vince gets a solo, he's gotta be one of the best guitarists in the country music industry, good rendition of the song.

  • personally i think brent mason is just as good if not better....also i dig Albert Lee.

  • Vince has a mighty sound on that strat cuts right through me, it could cut down a sequoia.

  • Oh my goodness! I have to get this song on my mp3 player! If anyone knows where I can get it or how I can even get this video on my player, let me know. PLEASE :)

  • was this ever put on a cd or anything? or what show was it on?

  • i love it (:

  • I think Vince's voice is higher than Alison's. :-) Good rendition. Love it.

  • I always thought this would make a good country song. But i gotta say this isn't how I pictured it.

    Below par :(

  • i almost like this better than the original. LOVE IT AKUS can do no wrong!

  • I do think this one surpasses the original! And I am a Genesis fan!

  • I have to disagree there. I had been a Vince Gill fan before I became a Genesis fan. I have to say in this case I like Phil's vocal better.

  • @hogweed1975 me too, I really like it. I saw it a couple of years ago and had hoped a studio version might be realeased.

  • vince who? who's that with her- a great addition for this song. great cover, by the way

  • The man with her is Vince Gill. He's a very big Country music star. God, he has the funky-est voice on this song!! I didn't know he sang like that! The Best!!

  • thx! Does he have a good bluegrassy CD out there?

  • ahhh, will crossroads ever be released on cd or dvd. that would be soooooo cool. you would think they would so CMT could make themselves a little more money. cause their so poor ya know!

  • Any song becomes by definition classic if Union Station and Ms Krausse perform it.

  • Phil, I think,would like this

  • I think he's heard it. In fact, I think tehy all heard it and loved it. Tony Banks-fans might be prog-funamentalists. Tony himself is far from that and very eclectic.

  • Purists ignore that fact that the style they are so dogmatic about would never have come to be if the creators of the style were as dogmatic as they. I know people who sneer at Alison for not really being bluegrass anymore, and forget that Bill Monroe was quite musically rebellious in his day.

  • awesome vid!! question, though. does anyone know when this was aired, because, i don't know if i'm the only one, but, does alison look pregnant to you? i know she has a son, but, i don't know when he was born. great vid!!!

  • This isn't incredibly old, but old enough that we would know by now had she been pg. It's likely the cut of her shirt that gives the illusion. I see that you're pretty young so you've probably never had anyone ask you if you're pregnant, but just for future reference...it's pretty humiliating lol. So, the nice thing is to just keep it to yourself when you think someone's sporting a baby bump! lol

  • This is the show I first heard "The Reason Why" (?) done by Vince (and Alison)...also a great version.

  • Thanks for posting, do you by chance have "whenever you come around," also from this show?

  • ... i wish vince had done the hole thing i liek his voice.... but it was alright

  • i love it so much!! thanks so much for posting this video!! she looks great and sounds better than ever!!! she does a great job with everything that's put her way.

  • I've been looking for this video everywhere thank you soooo much for posting :)

  • I love it she rocks!

  • Thank you so much for putting this performance by my role model up here! I love to hear her sing this song! God bless you and her always!!!

    Holly in East Tennessee

  • not as good as the original...but well done.
