  • This song gets me all Christmassy!

  • One of the best bands ever to grace the stage at Glastonbury, everyone will remember their final song - The Dark is Rising as long as they live, but this is the album that got me switched on.

  • tapestry extraordinaire

  • spoonfork.

  • they are performing in sydney in two weeks time at harvest festival..

    really looking forward to it..

  • i want to be a kid again

  • @EPICBEAR73

Their bassist has co-produced most of the FL albums of the last two decades.

  • everytime i listen to this song i just want to make love

  • Wonderful, one of the few songs on youtube that the highest comments are actually well thought sentences instead of stupid jokes.

    Love it!

  • @EPICBEAR73 Yeah, I googled it and they're quite tight.

  • @EPICBEAR73 But the voice and everything.

  • Wow, they sound so much like the Flaming Lips. It's amazing...

  • Why can't you flag something as very appropriate??? Great band Great song, GREAT ALBUM!!! @ TheFate23 Good memory and another great Band!!

  • I get chills all over when I hear this song.

  • reminds me something of Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over the Sea.

  • Maybe I was dreaming but I swear there was a spooky Music Video to this great song... Can anyone help...?

  • This one's a bit dull. I preferred the one with the toad.

  • Bands...those funny little plans. that never work quite right

  • If it wasn't for this album, the Flaming Lips would never have become as brilliant as they are

  • i reckon these guys and ween and flaming lips are pretty similar maybe they should join and make a super group

  • beautiful song , very sad . it also reminds me of trigger happy t.v

  • @horsedoctorman

    @surfingelctrode

    @slagbot

Sorry to all the more informed music-lovers. I do bow to your knowledge, and apologise for assuming something which was so wrong. And thank you for your correction. I do hope I can get to see them live someday, although of course I recognise I don't deserve to. I mean it seriously guys, no irony.

  • Timeless ! Looking forward to hear this on Deserter's Songs Instrumental !

Only 3 weeks to release !

  • I think they're better than the Flaming Lips. This song is epic, beautiful and endearingly ramshackle all at the same time.

  • The rapture is "today" and honestly, I couldn't think of a better song to play while the world ends. I just want to make sure his hands are in mine and my lips on his while the world diminishes.

  • Beautiful song, I'd just love to hear a version with a lead singer that can sing though

  • I remember the first time I heard this album, I cried throughout the first 4 or 5 tracks, that had never happened to me before, not with any album but I knew back then this album was special and I still think so now.

  • Ah, pretty nice... the vocals are a weak spot tho, not very resonant.

  • this sounds exactly like flaming lips.

  • @tristianity4u dave fridmann produces both of them

  • got a video of this but im new to computers & dont know how to transfer it yet? top song.

  • This song is a trip back to my younger happier days, great times, so innocent!

  • i really love this song..

  • timeless music , one of the greatest songs ever written

  • holes..dug by lil moles...

  • Truly majestic.

  • 5 people have telephones for eyes

  • @gamble40k WA?

  • Mercury Rev take me to another world

  • beautiful, beautiful !!! this song is played in the movie "Against the Current" with Joseph Fiennes, God is crying.......and so am I.....

  • Wow, I've only heard their first album... this is extremely different...

  • beatiful melody..... god a cry in the sky....

  • Oh, wow...

  • I find it hard to believe I don't see the word "Theremin" anywhere in this thread. This is one of my all-time favorite tracks that uses this beautifully haunting instrument. It kicks in at 1 minute 50. Did you guys not notice it or what?

  • @meptastic some people enjoy music for how it sounds and don't have some obsessive compulsive need to name the instruments they're hearing... weirdo

  • @meptastic That's not a theremin... it's a bowed saw. Mercury Rev has used them a lot ever since See You On the Other Side.

  • @meptastic i take it you've never seen them live when they clearly are using a bowed saw (a la neutral milk hotel) and not a theremin at all

if ever there was a band who didnt quite get the coverage they deserved its mercury rev

  • This was the closing music to a little known BBC Afternoon Play titled 'Billy Two-Sheds'..the most poignantly crafted piece of television ever from the sadly departed Alan Plater. This and the closing music had me in floods of tears. Perfect.

  • if i had to pick a song to cry to, this would be it

  • eases the mind a bit..just how I need it

  • holy shit. this is amazing.

  • This is pretty badass

  • wow!

  • Brilliant Song. I'd love to hear Chan Marshall sing it!

  • This song takes me to so many places,. It takes me back in time to my childhood when I was happy and carefree and didnt suffer from daily anxiety . When I didnt even care what money was or before I had two jobs and went to college full time it makes all my daily worries dissapear this song takes me back before it all, I cry when I hear this song because It makes me want to be a child again sitting in the car with my family ready for a whole new destination. I love this beautiful song.

  • @MsRayofsun It takes you along a path, one that is filled with neutral wonders and amusements. Just like being a child. Tis incredible what music will do to you.

  • @MsRayofsun i feel ya

  • @MsRayofsun Beautiful post!! T_T

  • @MsRayofsun dude thats so sweet!

  • @MsRayofsun your comment nearly made me cry as I listened to this. Its true, it takes you back to something that isn't there anymore in adult life, a safe feeling. Something that only kids can feel and somehow this band make me feel like that for a few moments.

  • @MJPICKify this is the first time i have been back to this video in a long time.I just want to say thankyou because when i wrote that comment i had just gone away to college for the first time and had never felt so alone. All my childhood I couldnt wait to grow up but now i just want to go back in time to the beautiful simplicity of young life and this song is one of my all time favorite songs so thankyou so much for your comment it touched me.

  • very good

  • i love the pic, is that an album cover?

  • Flaming lips, The Soft Bulletin wishes it was half of what we have here

  • This was the first video to favorite when I subscribed to youtube a year ago today. I had just gotten laid off from my long-held job that I loved more than life and used my severance to buy a computer, which arrived on Aug. 19, 2009.

I don't know why this was my first song to favor or what I was thinking at the time when I favored it. The good news is that life does get better after we start to see the light and climb out of our little holes. Peace, love and Namaste ....

  • @misterInfinity1 Right on! Thanks, really. -jeffdeanable

  • reminds me of a happy/sad time in my life

  • It's the only album, where I have cried throughout the first 4 tracks. That hadn't happened to me with any album before, or even since. It's beautiful.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ke bella cancion!! gracias dj relax x ponerla hace mucho!!!! akellos blokes de sna valentin fueron unikos!

  • great song

  • go talk about coldplay on a coldplay video?

  • So melancholy.Great song,fantastic album

  • If I ever end up with the man I'm falling for, I picture myself slow dancing with him to this song, especially the part from 4:14-4:52. It would be at some kind of formal event.

  • u all talk shit

  • The above song was written some TEN YEARS AGO! The album it was on (Deserter's Songs) is a Landmark album for anyone interested in 'alternative' music. I mean for god sake they invented a new instrument while making it

Its not a coincidence that you like the same music as '14 year old girls' You talk as if you've seen through the trappings of so-called alternative culture when really your just tired and need to be spoon feed your music in easily digestible chunks just like a 14 year old girl

  • Clear your mind of the fact that Coldplay is the most popular rock band in the world and that your little sister likes it. Try to forget the seargent pepper suits and gywneth paltrow. Burn your copy of NME. Listen to Viva La Vida and Prospekts March. Enjoy. It's basically the same stuff as this.

  • COLPLAY ARE SHIT

  • So right.

  • It's basically not, this is the origns of all bands now, same as them, i suggest you reasearch before trying to post your factual opionions which are opionions!

  • Opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey. I liked the way flaperise invented the word opionions. It brought tears to my eyes. ;)

  • In my opionion your comment is very funny!! Tears, like when one peels an onion? LOVE IT! Great tune all the same! Mmmm onions...

  • I Just don't think being Arty or pushing (forcing) yourself to make interesting music is the crime you seem to deem it to be.

There are plenty of bands that make music exactly like coldplays. Why can't a band try and push things forward without being ridiculed for trying to be different?

    More Forwards Please!

  • I love winding up people who prefer unpopular bands just because it makes them feel cool and special. Mercury Rev are good but its all a bit forced and exactly `arty.' Coldplay just do it and couldn't give a toss whether the NME like them or not.

  • are you joking?

coldplay have got to be one of the most forced, mainstream following bands out there!

    'couldnt give a toss'?

coldplay wouldnt surivive without their 14 yo girl fanclub.

  • COLDPLAY ARE SHIT, not colplay, I don't even know what colplay is

  • I bought a Mercury Rev Album! That means all you cynics have to go out and buy Coldplay's too. ;)

  • A work of art.
