This is so much garbage. Barium reacts with oxygen, and water too. There's no way a person could have collected barium by leaving jars out to see what fell into them out of the sky.

That is a red herring. That it isn't found in nature because it is so reactive is not the same as it can't be handled in air at all.

Under normal temperature and pressure conditions barium is a soft silvery white metal and what air does is make it rust. My question is why Barium? It is so solid as to be non toxiv to the human system, it passes right through, so if there is barium as part of what planes leave, so what? in some connections it can be highly toxic like BaCO3 used for rat poison.

Thanks for your replies. I accept that some barium compounds are not reactive, and could exist in air. But the news report and the witness state that a (unnamed) lab "found barium" in the samples. It doesn't mention a particular barium compound. The range of applications for barium compounds is vast, so the claim that there's barium appearing in the ecosphere isn't very helpful.
