    Customer Reviews:

Before it arrived, I was a bit sceptic about such a feature-rich camera being so small and cheap. I've had a few cameras, including Sanyo and Sony and this one surprisingly came out on top with respect to picture quality for both video and still images. Handles outdoors and indoors shooting very well. Adjusts to changes in light ...

  • are you sure you dont live in that "flamboyant" part of the town . if you do then hello sailor ;)

  • Is it just me, or does Manchester vaguely resemble Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada?

  • people do that? I use an ANCIENT Sony handicam that I have to practically carry on my shoulder and it seems that people actually try to get INTO the field of view. But then I live in America, it's probably just a culture difference. That or they think it's a TV camera and not a basic non-serious camera from the mid 90's

  • will be waiting for your reply, i dont mind any other recommendations:)))

  • @taya786 They are very different cameras - it really depends on what style you want. . Bear in mind what I said about how I hold cameras and see what style you prefer. The Samsung looks good and if you can get it cheaper than the Sanyo it might be even better value for money. I haven't been looking at camcorders since this review so I'm not sure what is out at the moment.

  • Hi,Thank you for such a helpful review....I would like to ask you if you can tell me, im intersted in this camera and another camera which is a samsung hxm-t10.....which one would you recommend the latter is 1080i??? i was going to get the samsung until i saw this, this is more expensive than the samsung....the fushia color is cheaper but i dont like that color....Pls do reply as i dont know much about cameras and need a nice 1080p camera (dont care about the stills as much) under $200 usd....tks

  • Whats the current sony that you use? Thanks!

  • @CasusIter It's a Sony HDR-TG3 (TG1 in US). Sony replaced this in their range with the HDR-TG7 (TG5 US) and then discontinued it. If they had a follow up, I'd buy it immediately, it's the ideal camera for me. The only issue is that it's 1080i.

  • I had 79 euros to spend and it found a way in my pocket, bargain.

  • Great review! Thx

That's a great camera, with all the features one needs in an 1080P, compact camcorder.

It's actually almost everything I'd look for in a compact camcorder. Strange that they didn't put a variable speed zoom on there, but I guess you need to cut down on something.

It's very small, and that's great because you can carry it easily.

10x optical zoom is great for that size as well.

I too would want the auto lens cover, but to save on cost I guess they cut that out.

    Cheers!

  • Farr your loaded with cameras

  • last time i was in manchester someone had scraped off the C from calan street lol

  • Oh you went on to say that Ha-ha..

  • Not when it's zoomed in though!

  • The footage recorded via the Sanyo looks crisper than your Sony. Not sure if it actually is.

  • I've read that Panasonic(who bought up most of Sanyo) will terminate the Sanyo Xacti cameras and also the brand itself in 2012. I guess that's why we haven't seen any new cameras from Sanyo at CES '11. They are obviously trying to sell out their remaining stock. Panasonic said it will transfer some of the Sanyo camera technologies into their own camera line. I will miss the Sanyo Xacti cameras :o(

  • nicely done review. can you please do a review of the sony tg5? i want to know if the zoom speed is adjustable and how the manual focus works. thanks techmoan

  • @thelostbobby7 The TG5 is an excellent camera (now discontinued). I have the TG3, but the features you ask about work the same way. The zoom has a number of speeds depending on how far the wheel/lever is pushed. It does every speed I need from very slow to very fast. The manual focus works by tapping the option on the screen and pressing + or - to adjust the point of focus - better still is Spot focus where you tap on the item on the screen that you want to focus on in the scene.

  • @Techmoan Wow thank you so much man. That's pretty much all i need to know. Yeah i'm definately going to replace my kodak zi8 with the tg1. hahahaha. thanks again. you earned a golden sub ;)

  • PINK!!!!!!!!!!

  • 10x opic zoom WTF

  • Looks an impressive camera for the price, great review.

  • I would buy VPC-CG10EBK, slightly better made for the 129£ but still has a bad lens cover. Thank you for the review.

  • Oh, what a delightful hue of pink. Well-played, Sanyo.

As for the actual footage, it's extremely impressive for a camera so tiny. Of course, the purchase would be hard to justify for a flip-style usage when recent phones already include a functional HD camera. If I ever have to record more crucial footage and can't afford a DSLR unit, I'll consider this product. Great review, keep them coming!

  • It's good to see that someone at Sanyo has a sense of humour, you'll be getting pink gadgets from everyone now. I considered this camera last year before buying my CG10 but the price was too high at the time, and I'm tempted to make a comparison video of my beaten up camera which doesn't suffer from many of the problems you mentioned despite only being 720p.

  • About those ruber tie devices (for the memory card): I have a sony (Yes; a handycam and a psp) and they hase more or less the same hinges on the covers. The camera is now 7 years old and thoose hinges look like new, same on the psp. So, no need to worry. And btw, change that girlish pink please....

    Cheers,

    Rok

  • hahaha pink
