@ssanyi48 I don't think that's possible... Keane will be releasing their fourth album in 2012 and I guess they'll have a lot of work with promotion + touring. I'd love to see that happen, though.
Gran bella cover.
I know that but Keane is using Vanilla Ice's version instead of Queen's version, ither way they did one hell of a job and i think Freddie would be happy at the least.
Actually, Vanilla Ice used the original bass line from Queen's song 'Under Pressure' (wich was released 9 years before) and only years later paid Bowie and Mercury for the credit....
not true My Chemical Romance and The Used tried to go to a high pitch but they would never be able to pull it off, another person who did it well was David Bowie's lead guitarist.
This was ok. The original was still the BEST <3 This one does get props for not being the WORST cover I've heard but it does sound a lot like the original, well the Freddy part does anyway haha no one can match David's voice! Ok cover I guess
yeah i do. im saying that the only reason someone would not like this cover is because they think no one can do it besides freddy mercury. thats being ignorant. don't try to quote survivor on me. and if u dont watch survivor ignore that last sentence
Or because it is a boring cover maybe? Not adding anything new to the original. The vocals are pretty ok though. And I don't even like Mercury's voice.
Great version. The only thing I don't like is they used the "Vanilla Ice" bass riff instead of John Deacon's (IMO better) one. Apart from that, really well done. Gotta love Queen, gotta love Bowie, gotta love Keane!
..." Cause love's such an old fashioned word and love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night and love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves" - these words have more meaning in Tom's
i can't tell if you're being serious or not, but just in case...
queen had the bass line first, they played this song with david bowie way back when. vanilla ice used this, he got in trouble and got his keister sued. yes, i said keister.
I think what he's talking about is that the bass player is playing the vanilla ice version of the bass line, which adds an extra note on the repeats. In the interest of a respectable cover of this song, he's right, the bass player should be shot for playing the vanilla ice version.
Here's why Keane is sooooooooooo good -who else could cover Queen and sing it so perfectly? The why, why, why part shows how far Tom can go, this guy can sing whatever he wants, he has the gift
no, Vanilla Ice bass line has an extra note between each round of the bass riff, just like this cover, so this is not the queen bass line riff, is the Vanilla Ice one
i like this band but they have a long way to go to get as good as david bowie and especialy queen but they did a good job but still there is a long way to go
I dont think he is trying to sound like him. He is talented in his own way, and doesnt need to sound like anyone but himself. I give anyone credit for attempting an old favorite like this and putting it out there. These guys have a good thing going. ;-)
I like the original, but this version is awesome! I honestly like it more, but only because I'm not a huge Bowie fan... and because Tom Chaplin is simply amazing!
I love Keane and I play piano and the guitar. But I love Keane much more without a guitar. This is one thing what makes them different from all the other bands!
I always though Freddie Mercury had a very unique voice. And indeed he does. But I remember one day I was listening to a live performance by Keane and I noticed that the lead singer had a strange quality in his voice. That sometimes he would remind me of Mercury. I guess he noticed it too or someone mentioned it to him. One of my favorite Queen songs. I love Keane too. So this is a nice treat. Thanks for posting this :)
No disrespect to Keane, they are a very respectable band. In fact, they did a reasonable, if not good job.
It's just that this is my favorite song of all time. Queen & David Bowie are my two personal favorite musicians, and 2 of the world's most reputable. This song was phenomenal, still is, and I believe it should remain in all it's glory, untouched by modern bands.
Again, no disrespect. Keane is great, I just prefer them when they perform their own material.

Not sure if this is a live performance, but the phrase "turned away" at 2:05 is sung slightly off-pitch (flat), and the bass note for the chord progression from 2:38 deviates from the original in a BAD way. It goes from D to B to A, which is boring and too straightforward compared to the original D, G, A. You're always going to get compared to the original when doing a cover, like it or not, and if you can't do something different in a GOOD way, it's just going to be painful to listen to.
too bad this is the bass line from "Ice Ice Baby", should have played queens verson without the extra note thrown it.
