i love playing golf there... i got to agree ive pelted a few balls that have strayed across the path so i can see your point... ive lived in ryde 32 years and never heard of anyone getting hurt there apart from myself sliping over when it was wet there. ;)
superb insight as per normal-does squat for tourism but tells it like it is-there are so many organisations that should be taking note of this incisive,damaging-truthfull work
I have raised the danger this is causing members of the public accessing this "Green Flag" park and they acknowledge that the golf is a hazard but state:
"... the angles of the greens and tees mean that rarely will players be driving towards people not on the course, and then over considerable distances..."
"RARELY"?...therefore they acknowledge that everybody playing at this course will at on at least one occasion during the round "be driving towards people not on the course" How can this be acceptable in any public park? let alone one awarded a Green Flag for "providing SAFE access for all members of the community"
They really are struggling to find justification for a situation which is entirely of their making and is wholly unacceptable and indefensible ...period.
Adding to your analyses of their lame excuses, if they state that players will be: "driving towards members of the public but only over considerable distances" doesn't it logically follow that they will therefore be taking a follow up shot towards them at a closer distance?
Also when this course was established there was a lot more tree cover but recently there have been no fewer than six trees cut down on the first hole alone- five of them behind the green! Leaving zero cover to this path whatsoever.
I have some footage showing them I will post it as a response.
-----Which is all academic though as the real issue here is not only the publics safety on the path but the whole area of this PUBLIC PARK.
I can't believe all the major news channels are covering the US elections, the international financial crisis and knife crime when there's an atrocity like this going on.
Well missingbraincell you have opened a YouTube channel today solely to leave a comment on this video...It must be pretty important to you....I would have thought the organisation you represent would have barred you from accessing YouTube content.
BTW as youre so new to YouTube I will explain it is this simple to block people leaving comments when they have a hidden agenda...still you could always open another channel...sad
Here is the safety criteria for the awarding of a Green Flag. leave us wondering what were the tactics employed in the awarding of this one.
1. A Welcoming Place
The overall impressions for any member of the community approaching and entering the park or green space should be positive and inviting, regardless of the purpose for which they are visiting. Features of particular importance are: * Good and safe access * Equal access for all members of the community
The park or green space must be a healthy, safe and secure place for all members of the community to use. Relevant issues must be addressed in management plans and implemented on the ground. New issues that arise must be addressed promptly and appropriately. Particularly important issues are: * Equipment and facilities must be safe to use. * The park or green space must be a secure place for all members of the community to use or traverse.
This is plain ridiculous, this park in no way can be construede as meeting this criteria for safety, and it is not possible to email the organisation that awards the Green Flags!?!
ROLL ON THE ELECTIONS, they must be shitting themselves as they know full well what happened at the last election, and this lot have lied their way through their incompetence.
Hi I raised this situation with the council as they are in breech of their own bye law as the practice of the playing of the game of golf within the park is causing annoyance to other people in the ground.
Bye Law: "The playing of any games within the park, must not cause annoyance to any other persons in the ground..." etc.
"the authority issuing byelaws is able to act outside those byelaws and also able to give authority to others to do so. So for example the Isle of Wight Council can give consent to private individuals to play golf on its land, and normally this is done by means of the issuing of a ticket to play, on payment of a fee." (so the council can overlook the rules if a financial incentive is offered to them....now that rings a bell....ahh yes of course Undercliff Drive)
lol...for anybody reading this who doesn't live on the Island, and doesn't read Private Eye, I should explain that Undercliff Drive is referring to where the IOW council got caught red handed "at it" after they broke UK and EU law in awarding a dodgy contract. Rather than go into long detail here just Google search: Undercliff Drive and you will see why they are infamous.
I cannot believe they have tee-offs pointing TOWARDS the path!
Golf courses HAVE to be fenced, pitch-and-putt or not.
I myself enjoy Golf, as a beginner I can hit further than 80 paces with a 7 Iron (as they often give in Pitch-and-Putt games) but to hit towards folks...if you sliced it, which you will do, you could do even MORE damage!
For shame! This needs taking further.
I'm a IOW loving holiday goer and this is my voice, hear it!
Unbelievably this park has just been awarded Green Flag Status the criteria for which includes "free and safe access"!?!
However this council are not adverse to using unorthodox methods to get what they want or indeed breaking UK and EU law and their own policy....try Google searching "Undercliff Drive inquiry"

That this council should be endangering the public in an area they have the responsibility to protect them is truly a disgrace.
INCIDENTALLY THEY ARE UNABLE TO CHARGE TO USE THIS PUBLIC PARK ONLY TO HIRE THE CLUBS etc.
THEREFORE ANYBODY CAN PLAY FOR FREE PROVIDING THEY BRING THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT AND THERE IS NOTHING THE COUNCIL CAN DO ABOUT IT.
