  • when i was reading the book for the first time i would skim the pages for capital D's and read those parts hoping that it would be a scene with Mr.Darcy, but the second time i read it word for word

  • mary king is like the prettiest girl there haha what are they talking about?

  • I just want to serve Mr. Collins a hot cup of shut the f@ck up, lol.

  • @Ceelea1 AHAHHAAHAH

  • this man takes kiss ass to another level

  • Poor Jane!

  • i dined at the Rosings and i JIZZED IN MY PANTS.

  • how is it that all the characters that are supposed to be ugly arent, and wickham is just...ehhhh...

  • I think I missed something.. who is the little blonde girl at the beginning of the video? The one asking if Lizzy's going to... whatever the place was?

  • @TheAbbyNormal That's Maria Lucas, Charlotte's younger sister, and their talking about going to Kent in the spring.

  • I second that,

    SHELVES IN A CLOSET!?

Does she have several clergyman's, too; if so then I sure do not wish that they are all proud and injustice from perspective alliances. Still, if any of them were as boastful and annoyingly stalkers, I would surely not oblige to watching any more films with clergyman's.

  • Lizzie is so composed and mature. She is in every way the son Mr. Bennett wanted, and is a fine character with intelligence and heart worthy of any human.

  • Mr. Collins, SHUT UP IN THE FACE, please.

  • I love the way Lady Catherine has her own set of music when she is talked about or in a upcoming scene.

  • That Look Lizzie and Charlotte share at the end of this clip, classic.... Says all it needs to in the way of Mr. Collins and all of his ridiculousness...

  • That Look Lizzie and Charlotte share at the end of this clip, classic.... Says all it needs to in the way of Mr. Collin in all of his ridiculousness...

  • Mr.Collins voice is so annoying. Somebody please shut him up!!!

  • i think wickam is ugly though...why cant he be dashing looking...i guess...we can only have one hot guy in a period drama....darcy....man...so sweet...so hot

  • they say that about mary king bc she wouldnt have been thought beautiful back then, as red hair and freckles were not considered attractive. the most beautiful women had fair, clear skin and blond hair.

  • oh my god, collins. SHUT UP.

  • @PhantomPhan11 the man is like a pest...i imaged throwing stones at him, if i existed at that time and knew him personally

  • @Mystrygal13 Yeah, and he ALWAYS has to mention the horrid Lady Catherine de Bourgh... x( But I must say, that actor who plays him does a great job.

  • in the books, both mary king and charlotte lucas are not supposed to be pretty, but i think the actresses are lovely.

  • The actor who plays Mr. Collins is great in his acting..just look how he greets everyone but slightly hesitate when he greets Elisabeth...he plays so well the annoyng caracter of Mr. Collins in every aspect

  • How can they say that the king girl isn't pretty?

  • I cannot BEAR Mr. Collins! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Mr Collins irks me ever so much! All he talks about are staircases, chimneys and shelves with frequent remarks on Catherine De Bourgh!

  • THE CHARACTER OF CHARLOTTE REALLY ANNOYS ME :\

  • Shelves in the closet.

    It is a modern marvel.

  • Poor Jane. :(

  • I don't like Collins in this version. He makes me wholly pity poor Charlotte, and she's supposed to be content with the match. I prefer Tom Hollander from the 2005 version. He's daft and ridiculous without being spine-tinglingly skeevy, as this guy seems to be.

  • "shelves in the closet. happy thought indeed." lol ms. de bourgh is a pure genius.

  • The stare at the end between Jane and Charlotte is worth a thousand words. :-)

  • think I'd rather be destitute then live a life with mr.collins. Poor Charlotte.

  • how can mr and mrs bennet get together in the first place?

  • maria is so aborable

  • I find it funny how Sir Lucas is just as bad as Mr. Collins. With Mr. Collins it is "Lady DeBourgh" and with Sir Lucas it is "Sir James' Court". Capital!! Capital!! lol

  • "...to my HUMBLE abode!" Oh, Mr Collins...what a pompous man.

  • Mr. Bennet's such a good and kind father...reminds me of my own.

  • @liquidfirelight I don't think Mr Bennet is good or kind...

  • @Sulemaniya Mr. Bennett? As in Lizzie's father? ... He is good and kind. He seems sarcastic and cynical towards his wife and his two younger daughters, and perhaps everyone else, but he only means well for his family. But he also knows that all his girls are growing up women who will have to make decisions for themselves. He can only guide his family so far in their lives, but he cannot control their lives.

  • who are the children (older girl and younger boy) who sit beside Mrs. Gardiner at 2:41?

  • @fabziepie they're Mrs. Gardiners children... I think she got 5... they don't exist in the movie of 2005, but they do in the book

  • @MarialovesPortugal thank you :)

  • @fabziepie her children

  • Aww Mr. Bennett and his favorite... :)

  • Charlotte's younger sister is so cute!!

  • Charlotte doesn't have a sister in the book, does she?

  • @tblanl yes, she does :)

  • @tblanl she does. charlotte's sister Maria, does actually go with Elizabeth to kent.

if anything she has several siblings, at least 2 brothers and i think 2 sisters as well

  • ok i am about two seconds away from hacking off mr collins' tongue if he says another thing about lady catherine... >:/

  • who is maria? :o

  • The only time I ever liked Wickham is during the beginning of this part. I really do think he loved Lizzie. But she had no money so he couldn't stay with her b-cuz of all his debt which is why he went to Mary King. And then he went to Lydia to get back at both Lizzie and Darcy when he realized Lizzie had fallen for Darcy. Once again a female chose Darcy over Wickham (the first time being Georgiana Darcy)

  • hmm is there something wrong with the timeline? I thought Jane went to London after Christmas, but in her letter of Jan. 12th, she recalls events from 3 weeks before in London. Strange...

  • Love it....

  • "She is a very attentive neighbour".

IE "she never minds her own business" lol.

  • @mf2101 lol

  • 10,000 pounds then would be how much now?

  • @stilllookingaway $15,390 with today's market

  • Wickam can go to hell, Darcy ftw...!

  • @mrsdontbelieveinlove what do u mean by ftw? sorry i cudn't understand...

  • @chullbulli for the win :)

  • @mrsdontbelieveinlove aaaaaaaah thanx a ton..english is not my first language so I struggle at times :-)

  • @chullbulli you're welcome! :)

  • At the beginning Lydia is giving the red head an evil look, for looking at Wickham.

  • @broadworld You're not alone in your opinion. I agree too. Better for us.

  • Thank you

  • As much as I love Mr. Bennett,he is not without his faults... he is dismissive and contemptuous of his wife and younger daughters, even if he does have some reason, and his negligence of the latter contributes to Lydia's bad character

  • i've been watching these videos and it's really annoying me how some people are hating on the '05 version and some on this one. I mean, both versions are unique and great in their own way. yes, this portrayal is closer to the novel, but the most recent version has some resemblances too. It's just that the '05 version takes on a more romantic and day-dreamy sort of vibe. Both versions are great. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this.

  • I agree, I enjoy both, as well as "Lost in Austen",very funny...

  • What's "Lost in Austen"? I don't believe I've heard of it

  • You can find "Lost in Austen" her on youtube. It is a very funny parody of P&P about a girl, obsessed whith the novel (and this series I think).

She finds a way from her bathroom into the novel and gets stuck there for a while, messing up the whole story...

  • yes it quit good an fun to watch:D

  • @broadworld NOPE!! TOTALLY AGREE!! I like how this one follows the novel...and I like how the new one is more romantic...they both follow the same guideline anywho....LOVE PRIDE & PREJUDICE!!!

  • The great thing about the various P&P offerings is that there's one for pretty much any mood I'm in :) Besides, 2005 introduced me to Mr. Bevridges Maggot, it included the lines about janes past suitor and his poetry, and I loved the imagery of Lizzy on the swing after Charlotte's marriage and Lizzy's crying before explaining the content of jane's letter regarding Lydia. Heck, I'd probably embarass myself by admitting how many times I've listened to the unabridged audiobook *blush*

  • Hahaha. No need to be embarrassed. If you like listening to the audiobook, then it's all good. :)

  • @broadworld I couldn't agree more!

  • @EvaSaysYAY Thank You.

  • @broadworld Trust me, I completely agree with your way of thinking!

  • @roowine I thank you. :)

  • @broadworld definitely i agree with you besides versions like o5 will probably keep the story more alive, not that it needs that:P

  • @fantasyabsorbed Thanks!

  • the girl playing Georgiana Darcy is the real-life daughter of the woman playing Elizabeth's Aunt Gardner.

  • @redfingernails2009 I just watched Emilia Fox (Georgiana) in a film with Colin Firth called "Born Equal" a mini series in the UK. She played his pregnant wife. While I was watching it, I kept trying to figure out where I knew her from. Imagine my surprise when I realized she was Georgiana in P&P. It was interesting to say the least.

  • David Bamber (Collins) played Cicero in the outstanding series ROME.

  • true.... Ihadn't noticed that !

  • I thought "Mary King" was more attractive than any of the ladies making fun of her...

  • ha ha i did a fast glance at mary king and thought she looked like heidi montage...must be the wine lol

  • I think Mary King looks a bit like Mr Darcy's sister..

  • Poor, poor Charlotte. I bet she had no idea it would be this bad.

  • "...Til you or your sister Jane return, I shall not hear two words of sense spoken together." LOL. Gotta love Mr Bennett!

  • Mr Collins reminds me of Timothy Spall. I think perhaps they are both good at playing the 'pervertedly creepy' characters. o_O

  • mr collins also played hitler alongside tom cruise so maybe there is something to what you say lol

  • "pervertedly creepy" is the perfect description :D:D

  • you know I think that Charlotte's father and Mr. Collins almost deserve each other, as he is so fond of mentioning Jame's court

  • God Collins never freaking stops talking about Rosings and Lady Catherine...

  • I know the standard for being pretty was different in that time, but I think it's crazy to say any of them are ugly or any less then beautiful. Craziness!

  • i wish mr. collins would just shut up

  • I wish I had the chance to read the book before seeing the movie.

  • the book is amazing!!

  • It truly is! it's my favourite novel!

  • Mr. Collins is so creepy!

  • what do they mean shes not very pretty?

    i think she is.

  • @1angelsmessage i think people were just prejudiced against red hair and freckles back then

  • @1angelsmessage so true. she is very pretty and is very interesting

  • @1angelsmessage Mary King, the redheaded girl? I thought she was beautiful, though I'm in love with red hair at the moment. "Short, freckled thing." I thought the short, petite look was considered lady-like back then. As for the freckles, I've no notion how they thought of them. But I thought she was of the prettiest in the room. That is an opinion of a present-day girl, though.

If you don't mean Mary King, then I apologize, I ranted for nothing. xD

  • Mary King really is ugly. haha

I don't get the shelves in the closet thing either.

  • The shelves are a display of "lack of sense." How neither Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine have no sense at all--That, and how Mr. Collins will continually follow Lady Catherine without any qualm.

  • i am sorry that i am always complaining for this version but is it only me or charlotte and lizzie dont seem very convinient to be friends ???

  • @anonimi2009eponimi what do u mean by 'convenient to be friends?' x

  • @Evelyn4eva

sorry :)i mean they dont convince me that they are friends...

anyway i saw the end and it was awesome ....it seems that i changed my mind ... :)

  • oooh i see (;

yeah i think you're right! Anyways i love this version, its a great adaptation! x

  • You don't mean "convincing" do you? I like them!

  • yeah ;)

i mean convincing but anyway think it s a very good adaptation <3

  • ok, i have to know, are the shelves in the closet made fun of because they were often in closets, or because they were impractical in closets during that time period?

  • I think it's that there are shelves in the closet so that you can't hang up things. Usually closets are for hanging dresses and such in this time period, I think, and not for storage and folded clothes.

  • yeah, i think youre right, closets were for hanging dresses - v funny mr collins just assumes lady c know best every time xD

  • I despise wickham.

  • "shelves in the closet.....happy thought indeed." lol i love elizabeth--she is cute, smart, and funny.

  • try to watch Lost In Austen....you wouldn't be surprised by the character

  • I am a middle aged man, and did not read the book until a few years ago; my taste in literature not being for romances. But I loved the book. I suppose I am getting sentimental in my old bachelorhood. I have seen three versions of the book and find this rendition the best.

  • Dont worry your not the only male around that enjoys Austin, I too have a love/hate feeling for her works.

  • I actually find Austen's books comforting and find myself wanting to converse in the same stylized English found in the dialogue of her characters. I usually refrain afraid people would think I was crazy.

  • Yes i agree, mainly Austin, Hardy and dickens, wonderfully comforting, you can almost live the time with them in the books.

  • I believe her prose to be as close to perfect as I would care to emulate.

  • Ditto - me too! I even find myself writing in the same style, but being an English teacher in a foreign land, it will not do!!!

  • Visit Thomas Jefferson school then. We all alternate between this, Elizabethan and ghetto.

  • Must get confusing!

  • Not really. The dialect depends on the grade. 7th grade is usually Elizabethan, 8th is ghetto for the first half of the year and then just depressed jumble for the second half, while most of the ninth graders are Homeric speakers. The 10th grade class so small that it doesnt have a dialect, the 11th speaks like Jane Austen, and the seniors are always too tired to talk

  • Like I said--confusing!

  • I heartily agree! I find myself doing so a lot, speaking in 'Brontaustin Tongue' as my father calls it (Bronte/Austin as they are my favourite Classical Romance Novelists) I don't think people would think you crazy... just posh. And there's nothing wrong with that now is there? ^_^

  • I have an evil plan - I plan to take over the entire world and force its population to speak English as it is heard in this movie - I shall be so delighted when it is done ^^

  • @wmhoad you and I both.

  • @wmhoad I am exactly the same. one day my dad asked me a question and i answered "why i do believe i am not as enjoyable today as i was yesterday" LOL

  • @wmhoad Yes we would think you are crazy but I completely understand where you're coming from. I also enjoy the manner of speech. :)

  • @wmhoad

haha, best thing I have read here. I know what you mean. After watching too many classic stories, I find myself speaking in a way people look at me oddly.

  • @wmhoad

I would very gladly converse with you think not of you the least bit crazy

    XD

  • indeed mr j0andc0 and mr wmhoad, yes indeed....

  • Thank you so much for giving me access to my favorite series while at college. I think I might've died from Austen-deprivation by now if it weren't for your videos. ^.^;

  • but I think that in this adaption Lizzy and Mr Darcy are way better plaeyed thatn in the newer version. colin firth is definitely more convincing than matthew macfadyen, and also more handsome.

  • Does anyone know the title and/or composer of the piece that begins at 3:13 ? It sounds like a Beethoven I heard once (on a Classical Kids CD), but I can't be sure.

  • @All0fTheAbove I'm wondering the exact same thing myself!! :(

  • and the music!, the music is renasentist, in that time that music was old fashion

  • gess this bennets house has an air conditioner hole!!!

  • ?! I really don't understand who is pretty or ugly!

  • Honestly, Lizzy(and I daresay even Charlotte) looks prettier than Jane in this version. The actress playing Jane in the 2005 version looked far better than this one!

  • Look the pictures of the time... beautyful had a diferent meaning that today... jane looks like an old picture... lizzy is pretty for our time.

  • It really does show that Lizzie secretly likes Darcy, that she finds nothing annoying about continually discussing him with Wickham, even if it is insulting.

  • I think that is not necessarily the case. Wickham and Lizzy bonded over the supposed Darcy injustice towards Wickham so naturally when A and B comes together, they always talk about C which brought them together on the onset. It is human nature.

  • jesus christ!! "oh, these staircases are perfect for a clergyman; neither too steep nor too shallow." funny.

  • i agree i was laughing so much.

  • lol! I know! My favorite is "I say stairCASES, because there are several."

  • the actress for miss bingley is brilliant. she makes u really hate her

  • yeah and the actress playing mrs bennet she did a fantastic job playing a annoying wife

  • I also thought that Mr. Collins was rude in

saying welcome to my home instead of

    our home..

  • Poor Mr. Bennett stuck with all those stupid flighty girls. I hate them.

  • It must have been agonizing to live life trying to find a husband suitable to you and your family instead of being able to care for yourself.

  • Shelves!... in the closet!

I thought was kind of amusing =D

Other than that, I really like the house...all the houses used in this series are exquisitely done and I think I enjoy observing the furnishings sometimes more than the acting

  • I never understood what was wrong with shelves in a closet? :P

  • Nothing wrong with the shelves I suppose, more the absurdity of the amount of attention and consequence Mr Collins give all those small details ;)

  • probably because their gowns would get wrinkled

  • yes but ofcause lady catherine's house is sooo nice as mr collins would say for the chinny alone costs 800 pounds (witch i thinks is far to munch for a chinny:)

  • 7:18 "MY" wait a second you smuck. your married so re-phrase that... "OUR"

  • but i found mary kind quite pretty maybe this kind of beauty was not fashionable

  • How sad. Mr. Collins has absolutely no grasp on sarcasm. HAha, fail!

  • Mr. Collins needs to learn how to shut up
