Both the Chevette and Cavalier were sold in America, too. In fact the Cavalier (j-car) was sold as a Chevy, Olds, Buick, Pontiac and.... Cadillac! People were not impressed. What would you rather have? A 3-series? Or one of these pieces of crap?
Have owned three Mrk 1 Cavaliers, all of them were great. I had a coupe - the red one Patrick is driving in this ad - but mine was jade green.... that old car just kept going and going, nomatter what I threw at it. It finally went to car heaven because of corrosion, but it was 20 years old by then. In 7 years it never failed me. Would love to have another one.
i remember getting right racked off when our mk2 cav went in the garage twice within a month and we got given the same mk1 cav, felt a right banger ev3en though that was about 1984..
Yes, you're right. This was remarked on by Brian Clements in the DVD set of "The Professionals". Seems that BL never could get the same car to the set on consecutive days, so the shoot was always held up.
To add insult to injury, when Patrick MacNee showed up at the Motor Show stand, nobody would let him on board and he went on to get complimentary champagne at the Mercedes-Benx stand instead.
my friend had a 78 coupe it was good but doors were heavy

I love seventies Vauxhalls, especially the mk1 Cavalier. It's a shame the old cars end up scrapped just because of rust. New cars don't appeal to me.

Ahh the perennial Viva, my parents had two. The first was a nice '72 blue SL, was so luxurious even had carpets and two-speed windscreen wipers!

I spy a Transit in the background, should have had a Bedford van! Oops!

That has to be a green chevette towing the trailer for the 1903 vauxhall.

Think they missed a trick, looks like a Transit and a Themes at the beginning, they could have had Bedfords!

My Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe GLS was about 10 years old when I got it, and it still went like a speeding bullet. Great car. Never let me down.

Intriguing approach having a Ford Transit in the background, particularly when Vauxhall had an equivalent - the mighty Bedford CF!

Maybe the CF broke down on the way to the shoot? LOL!

Funny how Vauxhall got Patrick MacNee as their spokesman as he only recently drove British Leyland products on The New Avengers!
colong88 3 years ago
And they (the New Avengers crew) were forever cursing British Leyland as the cars were forever breaking down and support was minimal!
